This tournament will consist of films nominated for Oscars. It could be a Best Picture nominee, a film who's lead actor in nominated, or a movie nominated for Best Visual Effects. Simple? Good. I'd like to thank all schmoes who vote in advance. Thanks.

LET THE TOURNAMENT BEGIN!

I'm not exactly a big fan of LOTR (5/10 or C-), and I think the sequel will probably be even worse. I couldn't really get into ROAD TO PERDITION (5/10 or C-), but since it's shorter than LOTR: TTT and I'm sure not quite as boring, RTP gets my vote!

Just a question dh1989. Why do you feel the need to have three tournaments basically running at the same time? Could it be a good idea to actually FINISH one first? It's not like a tournament similar to this hasn't been done before. Ah well, Road To Perdition i guess.

First, I only have two tournaments running right now including this one. "The Leonardo DiCaprio Film Tournament" finished today. Second, I find it fun to run tournies, so I like to run two at a time, no more than that. Third, what tournament did I copy? The only one I can think of that is similar is Mike's great 2002 movie tournament, but that has tons of films, not just Oscar nominees, and it does not have some films in it that this one does, like TTT. I know some people may think these tournaments clog stuff up, but if many schmoes vote in them time after time, I don't see a reason to think they're bad, if that is what you think.

I'm probably the only person on the boards who wasn't that impressed by The Pianist (6/10) ...actually, I was really disappointed. The second half of the film seemed to take forever and the performance by Brody was good, but far from being great. Even though The Hours (7/10) also has some flaws, I enjoyed it more. Come on guys, what's wrong with DH having another tournament? One hasn't been done for the Oscar movies yet, and with the Oscars coming up on Sunday we may as well have one. Personally, I find the tournaments a lot of fun and they keep me busy. They are the only reason I got interested in this forum. I barely ever came to this forum before, unless I accidentily clicked on it. But with the tournaments now, I visit here all of the time. I could understand if DH had a bunch of tournaments going on, but that's not the case.

"Unfaithful" is one of the worst films of the year. It is slow, dull, and poorly acted. It also features one the worst endings EVER. "Spider-Man" is a great film with tons of thrills, laughs, and is quite moving at times. It easily gets my vote!

Yeah, but the last time I added a bunch of movies I decided to add it anyway. I wanted my tournament to be as complete as possible and have as many 2002 movies as I could get. Of course, I couldn't include EVERY movie, but I went through a list of all of the ones released in 2002 and I think I have a pretty decent amount of them. Anyway, even though I have a thing against LOTR, I decided it just wouldn't be fair if I didn't add it because of my personal feelings towards it.

As for this current match, hmm, this is kind of hard. Well, I did give Spider-Man (9/10 or A) the higher rating, but I've only seen the excellent Unfaithful (8/10 or B+) once and I have a feeling it will probably be even better the second time around.

Since it's the better film, I have to give my vote to UNFAITHFUL, even if I do love both...

I know, Diane definitely deserves the Oscar. Her performance was the best of the year. Unfortunately, she has pretty much zero chance of winning. It really sucks, but I'm at least happy that she got nominated. If she can't have it then I'd want Julianne Moore to get it, but unfortunately, even that's unlikely. :(

Todd Haynes BRILLIANT Far From Heaven!

Julianne Moore runs circles around Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger in the Best Actress category at the OSCARS. Their two performances combined cannot equal the superb performance given by Ms. Moore.

I felt that same way for quite awhile but then recently decided I might end up giving it a chance. It might actually be good. But now after Michael Moore's Oscar speach I can't help but think he'd be a prick and it makes me not want to see his film. My main problem isn't with the war part of his speach, but it's about how freakin' self absorbed he seemed. He seemed like a dick and just acted like he thought his film was the greatest thing ever and all of the other documentaries in the category were junk. Success definitely seems to have gone to his head, and this makes me not really want to see Bowling For Columbine anymore. I don't want to give my money to that prick.

Even though I dislike Moore, I was still going to vote for Bowling For Columbine, but now that I think about it I really don't want to. Treasure Planet looks like crap and I'll never see it, but at least Michael Moore isn't involved in it. That being said, I'm giving my vote to TREASURE PLANET!

Definitely the absolutely adorable LILO & STITCH (9/10 or A-)! What an enjoyable movie. It was very cute, touching, and funny! Usually, animated movies don't make me laugh, but this one was pretty funny. Other than Spirit (9/10 or A), this is truly one of the most enjoyable animated movies in a long time. I was never once bored during it, which is really something because during most animated movies I'll get bored at least a couple of times.

I thought MINORITY REPORT (7/10 or B-) was good, better than I expected. But it was too long and definitely not a GREAT film...

Not only does the CGI animation pale in comparison to Pixar's excellent work, but the script is unfunny and lame, except for the squirrel and the nut. ;) Now Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (9/10) is an excellent film. You gave About A Boy a 7/10 and 8 Mile a 6/10, so why did you vote for 8 Mile!? You probably changed your rating of About A Boy to a 4/10 or something since you first watched it. But if you gave 8 Mile a 6/10, then you must feel it's overrated too, because it got quite a few good reviews.

I really like ya DH, but I must agree with charlie, that was pretty cheap. The match only had 11 total votes (6 for WM and 5 for MBFGW). No offense, but it's pretty obvious why you ended it when you did. Even most of your other matches have a lot more votes. A lot of people didn't even get the chance to vote in the last one, because it was over so soon.

No offense, but it's pretty obvious why you ended it when you did. Even most of your other matches have a lot more votes. A lot of people didn't even get the chance to vote in the last one, because it was over so soon.

:(. MIKE?! I would NEVER end a round early so my #2 worst film of the year would lose! I have morals. Anywho, more than 10 people voted, so it could end.

Part 16

If you want to see eiter of these short Oscar nominated animated films, you just need to look at two DVD's. The first can be found on the DVD for Monsters Inc. and the second can be found on the DVD for Men In Black II. I'll also prodive a synopsis for each.

MIKE'S NEW CAR (Plot: Following his promotion at Monsters, Inc., Mike has purchased a new sports car and wants to take his friend Sulley for a spin.)

VS.

THE CHUBBCHUBBS (Plot: On the Planet Gorf, a hapless creature named Meeper attempts to warn the customers at the Ale-E-Inn of impending danger.)

I vote for The ChubbChubbs! It is funnier, wittier, and cuter.
