It may be just me and my relative inexperience with music, but the '80s new wave band Talking Heads, consisting of David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, and Tina Weymouth (Chris's wife), to be THE greatest band my ears have listened to. Just my opinion, but these dudes and a very cool dudette have cranked out some of my favorite tunes ("Once in a Lifetime", "City of Dreams", "Burning Down the House", and "Wild Wild Life" are on a constant rotation in my head), have expressed an offbeat sense of creativity found in few bands, and have translated their brilliant music into movies (their 1984, Jonathan Demme-directed concert film STOP MAKING SENSE first got me hooked to the music). Just last year, the band, alongside The Ramones, was inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame and put on a great show at the ceremony. In short...the Talking Heads rock the house, IMHO.
I'd like to know if any fellow schmoes are as big of aficionados of this awesome '80s band as I am.

I looove the talking heads. Sugar on my tongue is one of my favorite songs ever. They took funk...made it their own and then put obscure pop lyrics to them... Bless their hearts.

I absolutely adore The Talking Heads.
Life During Wartime is a GREAT song!
David Byrne ranks right up there with Danny Elfman in the musical genius category.

My favorite album is Fear Of Music.. i think it was Talking Heads' first collaboration with Roxy Music's Brian Eno...
lemme tell ya..
one BADDASSS fucking album.
I had no idea who they were when I got into the album.. I was going through a box of records belonged to my aunt and I thought the cover cool.. So I snatch it, and when I take it home I was like.. "whatinthenameahgawdisdis?" ahh, but its a grower.. you cant help be at least a liittttle fascinated with what's going on. Dave's FUCKED lyrics, and almost robotic approach to the vocals..

I like them so much that not only do I have all of their albums, including the remixes album and the box set, but I also have the DVDs for Stop Making Sense and True Stories.

I have the TRUE STORIES DVD myself as well, but SMS has been a little harder to track down. The nearby Best Buy had one copy left in stock, and the last time I went there, it was gone. I shall not give up the fight, though. :)
The Talking Heads kick ass!!! I absolutely love Burning Down The House, I listen to it all of the time. It's such a fun dance song...

Yup. Big fan here. My Uncle says that David Byrne is the best live performer he ever seen - and he has seen Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.
'And She Was' is my favourite.

Hakari, I'm interested in buying a Talking Heads CD with some of my Christmas money. I have Remain in Light and love it, but I'm interested in buying another Talking Heads CD. What do you think is their best CD aside from Remain in Light??

Spielbergo, I highly recommend "Speaking in Tongues." It includes some of their best tunes, like "Swamp," "Burning Down the House," and "Girlfriend Is Better" (quite a few performed in STOP MAKING SENSE, in fact).

I used to own "Sand in the Vaseline" when I was younger, one of my very first CD's actually. Somewhere down the line I got rid of it. All this Talking Heads talk has convinced me to buy it again though. It's first on the list...

LOVE the Talking Heads...
my fav. band as of now...
Fav. tracks include: "The Great Curve", "Crosseyed and Painless", "Life During Wartime (Live)", "Road to Nowhere", "Slippery People", and "Blind". Yeah, that's a lot.
Enjoyed the heck out of True Stories(7/10) and became addicted to Stop Making Sense(10/10).
