lol . . . I know, I know . . . "Yay or Nay" is an over - used phrase. ;)
Ben Affleck - Love him? Hate him? Whatever? (Greb ;), lol)
Me? Yay . . . I enjoy *most* of his films (and I am eagerly anticipating Jersey Girl) and believe he is talented. (His performance in Bounce proved his credibility as a serious actor to me.) Although his choice in women is questionable . . . (J.LO . . . WTF?!) lol :)
Fellow schmoes - Ben Affleck: Yay or Nay?

Ooooooh, sorry JCLC but Ben Affleck does nothing for me and I'm a bisexual male. Personally, I think he's ugly as hell and his acting is only average to me. I'm sure he's a nice guy but I can't stand to look at him, I do enjoy his movies and his acting SOMETIMES but in this case he gets a NAY.

Yay before Jennifer Lopez.
NAAAAAAAAAAY, after Jennifer Lopez. She'll ruin whatever charm and potential he had left. Bad move Big Ben!

You mean Young Frankenstein? NAY! Big time! I don't see what Hollywood or anybody else sees in him.

Yay!
I like Ben Affleck. He seems like a genuine nice guy from his interviews, and he can be a great actor when given good material (Bounce, Changing Lanes, Boiler Room, Chasing Amy, School Ties, Dazed and Confused, etc.).

Yay from me. He was great in Chasing Amy, and very good in Dogma, Changing Lanes, Good Will Hunting, and hell, he was even pretty good in Daredevil. Plus he seems like a funny, cool guy in real life.
Matt's still better, though...

Yay from me too. He was hilarious in Dazed and Confused. I also like his performances in all Kevin Smith movies.

Yay...sorta. I think he's a talented actor, but way over-promoted by his management. And since hooking up with J.Lo, some her popstar-status seems to have rubbed off on him.
I'd like him better if he just stopped appearing on the cover of every damned magazine on the shelf and got on with his job, which he's very good at.
Best non-film performance I ever saw him in: when he hosted Saturday Night Live. I was pissing myself laughing. He impersonated pal Matt Damon for the "Mango" sketch, but best was his Turkish car salesman trying to sell a car to the "hot couple" (Chris Kattan & Cheri Oteri): "C'mon, dudes...I think you are making the car jealous!!"

I think he's ok. Not as bad as some people say. I wouldnt go to the cinema to watch him just cause he was in the film but he's a decent actor.
So I suppose...yay.

Yay and Nay. That means i'm largely indifferent towards him. He has been OK in some of the Kevin Smith movies, but right down awful in others, so it's hard for me to take him seriously as an actor.
I guess we'll see what the future holds. It could go either way.

LOL!!! I LOVED the Mango skit . . .
Mango: "Why are we in the dark?"
Ben {Impersonating Matt Damon}: "Uh - I have a pimple."

He's not really my type, but he seems really sound and makes decent films. I really think his acting is improving too

I definitely like the guy, and think he can be a rather good actor, so he gets a definite YAY from me too.

I totally agree. My interest in him went downhill ever since the royal hookup with JLo. Wow, what a letdown. The Mango sketch was a classic though! Unforgettable. I think I have that sketch recorded on a tape somewhere.
A small confession: I thought he was hot in Pear Harbor. Maybe it was the uniform.

You are right screamer, I can't believe I totally forgot Chasing Amy, as well as his small but good performance in the underrated School Ties.

Nice to see I'm not the only SNL fan on these boards. It just cracked me up the way he fell for Mango, then impersonated Damon by donning a wig, making his upper teeth into a visible overbite and pushing his ears forward.
And Mango's reaction when he was unveiled: "Why is everyone thinking The Mango is gay?! I am just coming here to get an autograph from the Matt Damon for my son's school raffle!!"
According to industry stories, Affleck is in real life a surprisingly good mimic. He'll study people he's working with on a film, then impersonate them to entertain the rest of the cast and crew.

YAY!!!
I think he's a pretty good actor and he's very attractive.........but I hate him with Jennifer Lopez..........something about the two of them together is just...............wrong .........:(
http://www.boomspeed.com/boopics/ugly.jpg
Yeah he's gorgeous.
I also find him to be a very blad actor. I loved chasing Amy but it could have been so much better if they had someone else in the lead.

Yay. I guess. He's a decent enough actor. I won't see a movie BECAUSE of him, but I also never quite undestood the mass hate that so many seem to have. Besides, every time I hear him say that line from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, "I don't like the sound of them apples Will. What are we gonna do?" I bust out laughing.

Affleck's performance in Chasing Amy was excellent. But one has to admit after Dogma, his chemistry is best when mixed with Matt Damon. I hope they will join forces again. I can only imagine just how hot a film that centered on Matt and Ben, along with Casey Affleck could be!

He's a decent actor... not great, but not bad. I really liked him in Daredevil, Mallrats and Good Will Hunting. He has his superb moments as well has his bland. I have no reason to be an Afflack Hater.
Yay.

Thumbs up or YAY or however it is said, for Mr Affleck. Its a bit of a shame that Gigli has flopped, but every actor needs to have some disappointments to really appreciate the successes, and I think Paycheck and Jersey Girl will go well for him. He's always solid in his films even if they're passable fluff like Forces Of Nature. He also seems like a cool and funny guy off screen too, so he gets a YAY from me.

I say NAY. I don't think he is a very good actor in any movies he has ever been in. I think he is pretty bland and appears disinterested in ALL his movie roles. Being with JLO just makes things worse for the guy. Gigli is a movie I'm sure he'd like to have everyone forget at this point. I know others here like him and thats fine with me but I dislike him.
Droog989
08-06-2003, 10:46 AM
He's another iffy one. He does good work in Kevin Smith films, but sometimes he just comes off as a total goof in his films. And I really didn't buy him as Jack Ryan, but I'm the minority, so oh well.
As for the whole J-Lo thing, who cares. It doesn't affect me, and he seems content, so good for him. He went from taking small parts in films (Mallrats, Dazed and Confused), to staring in a comic-superhero film and dating a pop-star. Good for him.

Ok let's see . . . Ben Affleck:
Pros:
-He did glue his hands to J-Lo's big fat ass for a while.
-He has talent.
Cons:
-Gigli.
-Pearl Harbor.
-Has ass in chin.

Yay - He seems like a nice person especially since he finally dumped J Lo and found a better Jen in Garner. I think he's pretty good in supporting roles like Boiler Room,Good Will Hunting, and (as overrated as it is) Shakespeare in Love.
Nay (joke nay) - He has Jen Garner and I don't. LOL :D

I had jumped on the "Let's Kill Ben Affleck" bandwagon a little after Sum of All Fears came out, but just recently I watched Mallrats on DVD and listened to the commentary for the first time and was reminded about how entertaining this guy used to be. He needs to drop the sappy dramas and get back into comedy.
