ESTIMATED THEATRE COUNTS

"Basic" - 2,500+

"The Core" - 3,000

"Head of State" - 2,300

My Predictions-

"Basic"-

This film should do very well. With John Travolta and Sam Jackson headlining, it is guaranteed a solid opening. The military factor will also help, bringing in the male audience. The two problems are: even with Connie Nielsen, it does lack a female draw, and the war in Iraq may keep a lot of this film's audience at home. I predict an opening of 13 million.

"The Core"-

This should be 2003's first HUGE blockbuster. It does not have a big name cast, but the trailers and TV spots promise tons of action and amazing special effects, which should be enough to interest the average moviegoer. Fans eager for the upcoming summer blockbusters will want to get an early taste with this. I predict an opening of 39 million.

"Head of State"-

I think this film will do fairly well. It should attract the African American audience with Rock and Mac, but "The Core" and "Bringing Down The House" could be serious competition. I don't see it opening as well as "Barbershop", another African American-aimed film, due to the fact that BDTH will still be going strong. I predict an opening of 10 million for this comedy.

What do you think?

I honestly do not see any of the films having huge openings, rather I believe all three will have modest debuts.

Of the three, and I'm basing this on box office thus far this year, Head Of State will probably do the best overall. Mindless comedies have been doing great business at the Box Office thus far, 2 of which How To Lose A Guy... and Bringing Down The House are going to cross the $100 million mark at the box office. The other two, Old School and Just Married have grossed over $65 and $55 million respectively thus far.
With that said, Head Of State (I think) will do the best of the 3, with about $18 million.

Basic with its marquee names should do well, however for the last while, adult-skewing films have been plaguing the market place, thus it has mucho competition. It should open better than The Hunted and a little less than Tears Of The Sun. I predict about $16 million.

The Core. A hit or miss film IMO. It may go the way of Deep Impact but I doubt it. It will perform more like Volcano. I predict about $15 million smacks.

THE CORE - 27.2 MILLION

My prediction for THE CORE falls right in between DH's and Ideal's predictions. The trailer and TV spots are definitely exciting and show that it's a big effects filled movie. It looks like one of the big blockbusters that would open during the summer. In fact, if this was summer when it was getting released, my prediction would definitely be bigger. I was thinking it should make around 30 Million, but then changed my mind. With BASIC and HEAD OF STATE also opening, audiences will have three new movies to choose from and all three of them look to open well. THE CORE should definitely open the best of all of them, but the competition will likely hurt its chances of opening HUGE.

BASIC - 15.5 MILLION

The TV spots have been very solid and Travolta looks to be at the best he's been in quite awhile. The advertising is really good and Travolta and Jackson will be able to attract a nice sized audience. Of course, THE CORE will take away some of the action audience, but BASIC should still see a solid opening.

HEAD OF STATE - 16.9 MILLION

The TV spots for HEAD OF STATE have been surprisingly pretty good. I think one thing that will really help it out is the older women singing "Hot In Herrre" (I think that's how you spell it, I'm pretty sure Nelly spells it with 3 r's). I may be lame but that part alone has got me interested in it. Even with a screen count of around 2,300 and some big competition, HEAD OF STATE should be able to pull in some solid numbers. I don't see it opening quite as big as DOWN TO EARTH, yet you never know. My 16.9 Million prediction is the least it will probably make. I guess if it does open as big as DOWN TO EARTH, I wouldn't be too surprised. Comedies have been doing very well lately.

Well, their are some exceptions. Of course, is anyone actually surprised it bombed!? Just like you DH, I figured its B.O. would be similar to last years Sorority Boys. And for the most part we were correct, except Sorority Boys made more on its first day than Boat Trip, and that didn't even have any big stars. Boat Trip is sure to sink faster than the titanic ;).

Um, weren't films like xXx and The Fast and the Furious aimed at that audience? Look how they opened. No offense or anything, but I think if tons of people, aged 12 to 17, go see this film, it should open with more than 8 million.

The Core - I think that this is going to do great business and be the first real blockbuster of the year that does not rely on word of mouth. Plus, early buzz has been good and it has a cast of well respected actors, and the trailers make it looks fun and exciting. Plus, they are doing one of those "-- DAYS" countdowns on the TV spots which usually means they are expecting a hit. I predict an opening of $34 million.

Head Of State - This will also do well because of the young male audience and everyone who has seen "Bringing Down The House" already. It looks funny and Chris Rock is a pretty good box office draw (with the exception of "Bad Company"). I think it will have an opening of about $19 million, doing "Down To Earth" type business.

Basic - This should do good business from the adult crowd, with John Travolta looking in top form and a very appealing supporting cast. It also looks exciting and action packed. I predict an opening of around $15 million.

The Core - 26.5 million - this could open anywhere form 20 - 35 million, but i think about 26 could be pretty accurate.
Basic - 18 Million - The commercials for this thriller are pretty convincing. They're actually starting to suck me in...
Head of Sate - 14 Million - i think this movie will do decent, it wont be a big smash, but it will still do well...

The Core will make a lot (around $30 million, I think), then drop like a rock. Hell, I kinda hope it makes $40 million, just to see if it doesn't make it to $100m ;)

I think Basic will do well, and keep a continuous audiences in coming weeks. About $16 million.

And Head of State will appeal to those people who've already seen Old School and Bringing Down the House. $12 million.
