If I have time to go to the movies this weekend (damn University!) I'd probably go check out Head Of State or The Core for entertainment purposes only.
But the prospect of me going to a movie this weekend with all the shit I have to do is slim to none.

This weekend I want to see The Core, Head of State, and I think my friend will try and drag me to see the sneak preview of What A Girl Wants, I won't let that happen.

I want to see all three of this week's new releases, but my first choice is easily "The Core". It looks AMAZING! My second choice'd be "Basic", and then "Head of State".
I also might see "Piglet's Big Movie" or "Agent Cody Banks" with my cousin. I'll let him choose, I hope he picks the Disney cartoon because it looks cute, while ACB looks awful.

Basic , from what I've heard, is McTiernan's return to form. Just the look of the film, the little I've seen of the trailers, is enough to make me see it. I'm not really a huge fan of Travolta...Hell the only role he's really impressed me in, that I've seen, was Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction. Then you have Samuel L. Jackson, that has yet to have really impressed me more then what he did in his work in Pulp Fiction as well. But early word on the movie has been positive, and I hear that it's a take on Kurosawa's Rashoman. I'll be there to see this!
The Core not only looks like a mediocre big-budget blockbuster, it marks a return to what I considered to be the least interesting type of big-budget blockbuster...the disaster movie. It does have a decent enough cast, and of course some of the special effects look pretty impressive...But I've yet to be truly impressed by any disaster film, from Airport to Armageddon. Probably check it out on cable.
Head of State looks pretty pathetic, which is sort of disappointing, becuase I am pretty sure that Rock is a funny enough guy. And the premise, if done with biting satire and a harder edge, could've been something to really get interested in. Now it just looks like another pathetic, unfunny fish-out-of-water retread.
I will reccommend to everyone here to check out City of God if you get a chance. It's a movie that will show alot of people here what movies really should be like, and not to be merely satisfied by the latest mainstream teen movie or "cute" romantic comedy. I think, while not my favorite movie of the year, is definitely the best.

Either The Core or Basic both look good to me and Head of State looks rather funny as well.

I think I will do a triple feature weekend, only if The Pianist comes back over here.
Will surely see:
Head of State
Basic
and hopefully
The Pianist

Its going on its third week here, I need to see CITY OF GOD.
AND All the Real Girls opens Friday here, I'm excited to see David Gordon Green's follow-up to GEORGE WASHINGTON (an incredible indie).
BASIC looks best of the new releases, the other two I will never see, I'll see it, hopefully it puts Travolta back on track, but I doubt it.
I DL'd and watched Bend It Like Beckam, and hated it. Trite feel good movie, in the vein of Remember the Titans (4/10). At times it felt like watching a sitcom, uck. (5/10)

Since next week is spring break for me I will be seeing tons of movies. First I will see THE CORE, then VIEW FROM THE TOP, WHAT A GIRL WANTS (sneak preview), and HEAD OF STATE.

The Core. It looks so downright awful I'm bound to laugh and love it. Hell, I found Armageddon entertaining (not that I liked it as a film, mind you, so don't lynch me ;))
Then, if I'm not crippled from laughter, I'll try and catch Basic. And then maybe Willard for a second time.

Despite the bad reviews, I still think BASIC looks like a snazzy flick.

City of God
I really need to check out this film. I will probably give Head of State a look. As well, if it is even playing still, Willard.
