Any Schmoes out there who like country music? I can't say that I'm a fan of [b]all[b] country music but there are a few singers and bands that I like. Some of my favorites are (in alphabetical order...)

Clink Black
Mary Chapin Carpenter
Johnny Cash
Vince Gill
Chris LeDoux
Dolly Parton (highly underrated as a songwriter)
George Strait

Kris Kristofferson & Willie Nelson are great songwriters, but mostly I just like songs in particular...

For The Good Times -Ray Price
Rose Garden -Lynn Anderson
Behind Closed Doors -Charlie Rich
It's Only Make Believe -Conway Twitty
Always on my Mind -Willie Nelson

Although those "I lost my wife, my car, my dog..." songs are pretty lame. Fortunately not all country songs are like that.

I'm a bit of a fan of country music. I guess most of the stuff I like would fall into the New Country/Americana sort of genre (it's bad enough having genres but when you start getting sub-genres and sub-sub-genres it starts to piss me off).

Old school country artists/bands I like would be Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Woody Guthrie, Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Byrds (very specifically their Sweetheart Of The Rodeo album).

Of the new breed i've been listening to The Handsome Family, Lambchop, Pernice Brothers, Scud Mountain Boys, Giant Sand, Whiskeytown & Ryan Adams.

Oh...and a whole bunch more. :D

The only good country album that has been made in the history of the world is Nashville Skyline, by Bob Dylan.

Bob...

That's a bit of a blanket statement. So you've heard every country album ever recorded then? :D

Hmmmm, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Byrds...Bliss!!!

Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Woody Guthrie are bloody great also.

And YEP, Dolly is undeniably underrated...I was listening to Joshua just the other day, and quite frankly it is one of the BEST songs ever written.

Kenny Rogers and Don Williams go down a treat after a few jars...You can't argue with twangy geetars when you're getting arseholed.

Actually, I'm a HUGE country fan...it gets a bad rap when all is said and done, and as long as we're not talking about The Woolpackers, Billy Ray Cyrus and that other c*nt who's HUGE in the US then YEP, it's one of the better genres.
