I just got a $50 Gift card to Blockbuster video and I'm going to go tonight and buy two DVD's. The Blockbuster in my area has a pretty good selection for sale. Which two should I buy?????????

A word of advice: If your blockbuster is like mine, it will have a pre-viewed DVD section. They add movies to it constantly. THey range from ten bucks to about twenty bucks. All of the DVDS are not sold previewed though. Only the new releases and the ones they have too many of. Surprisingly, there are few or no scratches on them. They are very good quality.

Yeah, good call! But what are some good ones?

You really have to be a little bit more specific, crynot. I am sure my refined (whatever) taste differs from your taste in films. Also, I don't know if you are pizza-faced pre-puberty junior high student, in which case, I probably shouldn't tell you to buy "Bad Lieutenent"-nc-17 or even "The Professional". And if you are a geriatric depends wearer than you might be more interested in "Golden Girls 2000" than...oh...let's say Oliver Stone's U-TURN. Also you may be a woman who wants the "Pretty Woman" Collector's edition? instead of "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" special edition director's cut top-shit seal of approval set. Maybe you prefer Disney films to Spawn animation? You must specify if you want answer...anyway Blockbuster sucks as far as selection with DVDs...but at least YOU won't have to pay for it, Gift Certificate Man...

I am a post-puberty, not pizza-faced, but I am in last year of Junior High and am 13 years old. I own both the NC-17 version of Bad Lieutenant and The Professional. And I also own T:2, and like U-Turn (even if it isn't up to Stones other films), and the Unrated animated film Spawn kicks ass. So don't ASSume age has anything to do with film taste.

QUENTIN, how many times must I ask you not to put words in my mouth? I never said anything about taste, I just mentioned that these films may not be appropriate for someone under the required legal age set by the MPAA. I don't agree with the MPAA in most cases, but I also agree that little kids should not see xxx-rated films. I let my son watch what he wants, but he is only two so he watches a lot of that purple bloated dinosaur/child molester. Since you are "mature" enough to watch and "understand" these films (according to you) please be mature enough to read what I write before paraphrasing me...with a name like QUENTIN you MUST be mature...?

Okay BROCK!!!!!!

Dude, I've been reading your replies all over this board and I've read nothing but negative shit from you!

/ubb/mad.gif /ubb/mad.gif

You're not the shit like you portray yourself to be so quit your stupid remarks - nobody likes it. I'm 22 and I watch what I want. I wasn't refering necessarly to what movies are good or not. I'll make that judgement call. I was asking what good DVD's are out there. I don't want to pick up a DVD that may be a good flick but has not features on it! Maybe you shouldn't critisize my boy Quentin about reading what is written in these posts and just check yourself!

I know I'll probably hear from JoBlo on this one but I seriously have come to the conclusion that you're a punk! Why don't you just sit back, relax and quit replying back to peoples post's with such negativity!!!

Excuse me, but your "boy" Quentin has attacked me every chance he has gotten and does nothing but correct people's spelling and movie title mistakes. I take that back...he has had some interesting posts but most of the time he just pops in to tell myself and others that I am wrong...I will continue to defend myself and will continue to tell it like it is...I don't see how I have ever attacked you?...obviously you think I have or you wouldn't be flaming like this...

Brock Landers

Let me get this straight, Crynot...you don't want a good flick with no features on it, right? Would you like a bad flick with lots of features on it?...try "The Mighty Peking Man" featured on Tarantino's Rolling Thunder Pictures series...besides all Quentin (the famous one, as in Tarantino, not the no-name) ever does is rip off other people's stuff...

QUENTIN

Exqueeze me? I think your thinking of stefanb, I didn't correct anybody's spelling. And I THOUGHT I was being helpful when I told you the name ofd the film you were talking about was Paradise Lost, go into a video store looking for "The Robin Hood Hill Murders" your not likely to find what your looking for if anything at all. Just like if you searched for "The Vampire Chronicles" your probably not gonna find Interview With The Vampire. Sorry but I wasn't trying to correct you, just trying to be helpful...And you're one to talk, all you do is critisize people, and act like an ass so far all of your posts have been about you being in porn and knowing PTA (which is a bit doubtful) and then calling other people either stupid, or that you don't care about what they are saying. So look in the mirror before you critisize others.

QUENTIN

Oh great! You just went from bad to worse, not only are you an ignorant, hypocritical, and probably lying ass, you also think Tarantino steals his stuff. I don't mind that too much when it comes from a person who has other merits (i.e. PackBacker) I just disagree with them, but you have more than all of that bad, and no good.

I don't have a problem finding a film I already own...

Besides I don't think it is necessary to criticize people for liking "Urban Legend" or any other vacuuous film out there...if you don't like the film...then ream out the film, not the folks who like it...

I have never...and I repeat never called anyone stupid.

Besides, just because I am not a "full time film geek" doesn't mean that I have no opinion...maybe if I lived in Belleville I would be right all the time...

It is really sad when people take themselves so seriously as to not enjoy a little harmless verbal banter now and again...everything I have posted and written about has truth in it and I have never misquoted anyone, in fact I am sure P.T. would be very happy with the insight i have divulged into our relationship...

Most everyone knows that "Reservoir Dogs" was a rip-off of Ringo Lam's "City On Fire", a hong-kong action classic...

I could have no way of knowing that you owned it I was just trying to be helpful, God forbid I try and help someone instaed of saying "who cares...I don't give a crap" when someone asks bout the aspect ratio difference on Widescreen and Letter box films.

Urban Legend I wasn onyl giving the person a taste of his own medicine. He said anyone who didn't love scream was a moron, and then he said he loved Urban Legend. Well Urban Legend is a pretty crappy flick so I said "don't be so quick to name-call, some (myself invdude) think you have to be a moron to like a movie like Urban Legends."

Region has nothing to do with it, I don't give a shit where your from.

And I can have fun on here, but you don't. All you do is critisize people.

And finally Reservoir Dogs has many similarities with ONE story in City On Fire, but is not a rip-off and they have many differences.

Silent Bob,

I know, I want to wait because the next couple of months are great for DVD releases but Blockbuster only releases them later after they don't want to shelf them all. I figure it's free money so I may as well blow it now.

Allright lets follow Silent Bob and Crynot's last posts. We need to end this fight b4 JoBlo has to put up yet another warning, and even possibly deltete these posts. So lets just get back on subject.

I think you'd be good going with just about any Kevin Smith film they are all jam pakced with extras, AND they are great movies too (well Malllrats was ok). The unrated version of The Proffesional is also a good bet. And if you don't have it Fight Club is a must.

Brock Landers
08-25-2000, 04:41 PM
Quentin Tarantino even ADMITS HIMSELF that he stole the story from "City On Fire"...

Truth is I don't give a crap because Pan & Scan/Full Frame IS INFERIOR to Widescreen & Letterboxed Videos/DVDs. That is not a slander on anyone, just stating my opinion on aspect ratios...

You are right, I shouldn't criticize others opinions...I should brown-nose them and tell them that I agree with them even when I don't...I should be a good little robot and agree with everybody...I should form no opinions of my own...I should conform to what society wants me to be and say and do...I should not be an individual, instead I should conform and live a fascist lifestyle underneath the rule of overbearing leaders who speak for everyone...

QUENTIN
08-25-2000, 04:56 PM
Tarantino said he was influenced by it, he doidn't say he stole it, and he didn't steal it.

I agree Widescreen is better, that was not what I was saying I was saying you didn't need to yell at Cow just cause he asked a question. And if you didn't have an answer the first time, why reply just to say you don't give a shit?

And finally you are completewly blowing everything out of proportion. And you CAN disagree with someone without yelling at them or making fun of them...or atleast most people can.

Brock Landers
08-25-2000, 05:18 PM
How, exactly, does one "yell" over a computer?

You miss the point, I was adding another piece to the puzzle. He asked the difference, I was warming up with an opinion followed by an answer, which could have been a lot longer...and when I called him a smartass it was because A) he was being one with his response & B) I was JOKING...IT'S CALLED A SENSE OF HUMOR. LOOK IT UP SOMETIME.

Admittedly I am a bit sarcastic at times but let us not forget that differences in people are things to learn from, whether you learn that I am sarcastic or perhaps agree or disagree with my thoughts...It is best to not take yourself to seriously...

(I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS WHOLE "YELLING" THING?

IS THIS HOW I DO IT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you are intentionally trying to be a jerk ass, but it does come off that way. I mean when your nothing but sarcastic and over critical, its human nature to assume that you are a snob. Maybe you just know your shit (which you do), but I didn't appreciate that comment about my head being as big as a civ. and being VERY sarcastic when all I wanted to know is why would you inform people that Magnolia was made by Anderson, when obviously it is very popular on this site.

Crynot: At my Blockbuster they put out NEW Dvds right when they come out, But you have to wait a while for the DVDs. I would Spend My money at Sam's Club on DVDs becuase they're DVDs are alot Cheaper and then you can get more. I got Fight Club for about 20 bucks and Romeo Must Die and End of Days for about 17...

Silent Bob
08-25-2000, 06:51 PM
One: Crynot: Never mind what I said about Sam's Club...I forgot that you just had money for BlockBuster..I'm stupid /ubb/biggrin.gif

Two: Brock, I don't nessecarily don't like you I was just saying chill out. If you want to "speak the thruth" then say it in a nicer way. You could have said, Well, Cow...Here is how the aspect ratio works...Not, who cares? You finally DID tell him how it works, but you were saying it in a mean way.

OOOOOOOOOooooooooookkkkkay............!!!

Another one of these, eh? Jeez, I honestly thought these bickering sessions would be over by now. Quentin, CryNot, Silent Bob...you know the drill, but listen anyway.

Brock, dude, I've been reading your posts recently and honestly really enjoy them. You, much like many of the other schmoes on this board, well....know your shit!!

Which is always cool.

But one thing that I DON'T want this board turning into <insert record player here> is a bitch-fest where people just go back and forth about whose opinion is the best and try to outdo one another with clever put-downs. I've said this many a-times before, but since there are always new people coming on board, I will say it again:

WHEN THINGS START GETTING PERSONAL ON THIS BOARD, PLEASE USE EMAIL AND SAVE THE REST OF THE TIME OF READING THROUGH OTHER PEOPLE'S DIRTY LAUNDRY.

Thank you.

I love movies, I love reading this board and I honestly respect and wish you all to stay and continue talking....about MOVIES!

Now please...no more CRAP on this thread, unless it pertains to the original subject, or the entire thing is gonna get ZAPPED, for everybody's sake!

And please try to kiss and make up. It's obvious that you all know and love movies...can't we all just get along, dammit!?!

Please EMAIL ME directly if you have any concerns about this at joblo@joblo.com

Well said JoBlo! Sorry I got this started and I do agree that Brock knows his stuff - so dude, just relax and if you do happen to disagree (which you will at times) don't rake the person, that's all.

Okay... The Blockbusters in my town suck because even though they have a decent amount of DVD's for sale - the one's they have are shit, most of them anyway. So, I went ahead and picked up Fight Club (even though I've seen it too many times, but Quentin was right that it is a must own) and also I picked up Something about Mary - if you've read my own script then you would understand, Scarface can vouch. Plus it has a directors commentary.

Anyway... I agree that Sam's does have the best prices Silent Bob.
