... or which were some of your favorite moments of the night, and which sucked completely in your opinion....

FAVORITES:
- Adrien Brody winning, the kiss he planted on Halle Berry, his friggin' awesome demand to stay on stage when they were gonna cut him off, and his speech. Great moment.

- Kidman winning Best Actress.... actually, I'll take anyone over Zellweger...

- Steve Martin as host. Constantly funny and fresh. Bring him back next year, and the year after that, and after that (... unless they can't get Jack Black, of course...)

- Chris Cooper winning Best Supporting Actor and his classy, well-done speech. Some good stuff there.

- Polanksi winning Director, just 'cause much like Scorsese, he's deserved it for a long time (... it's kinda odd that a felon on-the-run has an Oscar, though...

THE SUCKY, SHIT DECISIONS and/or THE MOMENTS THAT MADE ME CRINGE:
- Micheal Moore and his speech. Wrong place, wrong time, there chief. Learn some self-control.

- Chicago wining Best Picture (ugh, just, ugh...)

- The 3 or 4 breaks to Peter Jennings. If I want to know what's going on in the war, I'll switch on FoxNews, MSNBC, CNN or some other media outlet....

- It might just be me, but Eminem (errr, Marshall Mathers) has an Oscar, yet Scorsese, Freeman, Ford, Oldman, Penn still don't and Truffaut and Kubrick never will....

- No acting clips (grrrr.....)

- Gangs of New York gets shut out.... fucking travesty...

- The Pianist wins Best Adapted Screenplay over Adaptation.... come again?

'Twas an entertaning year, that's for sure, and that's all we can really expect, isn't it? :)

Best

- Steve Martin
- Michael Moore's speech.
- Adrien Brody and Roman Polanski pulling off huge upsets.
- Nicole Kidman winning Best Actress (justice over last year's loss!)
- Eminem winning an Oscar.

Worst

- Chicago winning Best Picture, I was hoping for an upset!
- The introduction of all the previous winners of the actor and actress awards, they wasted too much time on that one.
- The ABC news breaks.

I was pissed about the lack of clips for the acting awards, as well as Michael Moore's speech and the ABC News breaks. I was happy for Nicole Kidman and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Adrien Brody's win was the shock of the evening, and if Scorsese had to lose again, I'm happy he lost to Roman Polanski instead of Rob Marshall. Eminem rules! I would have loved to see Babs present him with his Oscar if he had shown up! Queen Latifah and Catherine Zeta-Jones were excellent in their Best Song number! That was my runner-up fave in that category.

Most of the presenters flubbed through their lines (even Connery seemed a bit off, or drunk), that gathering of those past Oscar winners was a ripoff of the 1998 Oscars, Steve Martin was okay as host, but I miss Billy Crystal and/or Whoopi. The acceptance speeches were rambling, and the production values mediocre.

The women were beautiful, especially the nine nominated actresses. Julianne Moore and Renee Zellweger were the belles of the ball.

- Zeta Jones winning an Oscar over talents like Kathy Bates and Meryl Streep.
- Pedro Almodovar winning an Oscar over the script for About a Boy.
- ABC News Breaks. I am an avid watcher of the developments in the war, but I was looking for some escapism here.

- Seeing Salma Hayek's clothing.

I agree 100%!. Seeing Salma Hayek with clothes on is more offenisve than ANYTHING Michael Moore could have done. She should have removed them. Immediately! But slowly. Very very slowly.

Eminem has an Original Song Oscar and you can't really compare that to a Best Actor or a Best Director Oscar.

Having said that, I think Eminem DESERVES his Oscar. :p

Eminem can lick my left one. The fact that this guy is now an Oscar winner only certifies any speculation that the end of the world is near. It's a sad state of affairs when that pussy wins any kind of award that SO MANY other people are far more deserving of. That and Moore's speech were easily the shittiest parts of the show. Scorsesi should have won for GONY and Salma Hayek was indeed extremely overdressed...Edward Norton, you lucky bastard!!

BEST:

- Adrien Brody winning for Best Actor, and his speech.
- Nicole Kidman winning for Best Actress
- The 59 Oscar winners of the past
- Peter O' Toole's brilliant speech
- Chris Cooper's emotional speech
- Conrad W. Hall accepting the Cinematography award for his late father, Conrad Hall.
- Kirk and Michael Douglas presenting Best Picture
- Steve Martin
- The sexy women, which include Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson, and Halle Berry among others. :D

WORST:

- The ABC news breaks. I didn't really care to see the show interrupted so that Peter Jennings could fill everyone in on the latest information. I mean, I've been keeping up to date with all the war coverage, but I wanted to escape for just one night. Besides, if I wanted to see all this, I could've flipped the channel to CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC (etc....) myself.

- No acting clips, how in the hell could they do away with this?! This is one small thing I look so forward to when it comes to the acting awards.

- Michael Moore's bullshit speech. It was inappropriate, tasteless, pathetic, and very immature. Definitely the wrong place at the wrong time. What an idiot!

M.Moore putting down the president of U.S.A. in a program televised to 91 foreign countries , esp when U.S.A. at war.Unforgivable. He should have called a meeting w the press for purpose of giving his political opinion-for those who are interested in hearing it.
C Walken not getting oscar. He could have played C Coopers role, but his own was a difficult subtle loser-charmer-optimist-harder role to pull off.

I believe that Dh is referring to Mr Polanski...

You know the one, the bloke that raped the pre-pubescent girl many years ago, and subsequently fled the country, you know...and that country is now celebrating and rewarding his excellence...because, well...he's a talented nutter at least.

Polanski deserved his award, people. He knows how to direct, and has done so for years. Rob Marshall was an embryo when Polanski was doing that thing he does so well.

Its time he wins again. (Did he win for Chinatown?)

I've obviously read a completely different account.

The one in which Samantha Geimer stated;

"We did photos with me drinking champagne...He was friendly and then right toward the end it got a little scary, and I realized, you know, he had some other intentions and then I knew I was not where I should be. I just didn't quite know how to get myself out of there."

Polanski gave Geimer a combination of champagne and quaaludes.

"I Just kept saying no, you know, several times, and then I just kind of gave up on that"

Polanski also said;

"I know now it was, it was not the right thing to do...But I was, there was no premeditation, you know, it was something that just happened."

Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse.

The Good:

Best Supporting Actor - Chris Cooper. His speech was touching.

Best Supporting Actress - Even Pregnant, Catherine Zeta Jones is still lovely. And in my opinion, she deserves a win.

LOTR: Two Towers winning a couple of awards.

Jennifer Garner - Hot, hot, hot

Steve Martin was a great host in the face of adversity, and at least one case, a horribly embarassing acceptance speech.

The audience booing that mouthy pig Michael Moore off stage...kick ass.

Martin joking about the teamsters...straight from the hip. I loved it.

The bad (Where do I begin):

Nicole Kidman winning best actress? Over Julianne Moore?? PLEASE!

While I'm at it, sexy was about the last thing I thought when I saw Kidman's squint... everyone sees her as this "goddess"...I see the Taco Bell dog. She was never all that much to look at for me. That's my preference, though.

Who the hell chose Eminem to win an Oscar for that pile of garbage he calls rap music?? The only reason he won over anyone else nominated is because he's flavor of the month...nothing but a sad trend. My stomach turns every time I see or hear his big mouth. The only reason he spouts off (and has a record deal) is because he kisses Dre's ass and for that, nobody screws with the little chicken shit.

Shame on YOU, Mr. Moore: The "speech" by Michael Moore was disrespectful, callous, rude, inappropriate, and dumb. But let's not forget uninformed, either! Moore's first Oscar was an opportunity for him to open his big mouth. This piece of whale blubber makes me sick. Nobody watches the Oscars to hear any political statements, especially ones made in poor taste. You are here to entertain us and maybe (just maybe) show us something we didn't know. Nobody cares what you have to say about the war, about politics, about science, ethics, religion or anything else! Even as an average American, I can see that the entertainment business is full of dummies that have no clue what they are talking about. If you are into politics, take your rant to the White House. Otherwise, just put another crate load of Twinkies in your mouth and shut up.

Big "Surprise": Star Wars Episode II didn't win for best special effects. What a shock. The overly trendy Oscars snub the traditional favorite. Although I enoyed The Two Towers, I wonder what people will say about the LOTR movies in ten years.

Mickey Mouse - talk about a shameless ABC plug! This whole segment was just an embarassment. Here's hoping the Oscars move soon.

Do I really want to see a dozen reality show commercials in one night? Answer: NO.

The War segments were too long and didn't tell us anything. I don't even care if they do them, just be informative or shut up.

No win for Scorsese. No win for Gangs Of New York. What's wrong with this picture? Too many fags in the academy who love musicals and not enough who love period movies. Oh well.

BEST
--Steve Martin sleeping with Stitch
--Adrien Brody's acceptance speech/kissing Halle!
--Michael Moore's outburst
--LOTR taking home 2 awards
--Chicago winning Best Pic. For a minute there I thought The Pianist was going to win!
--Nicole Kidman is GORGEOUS!
--Chris Cooper finally gets an Oscar!
--Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah's performance of "I Move On".
--OK, not to brag or anything - but the live cinema coverage here in Wellington NZ rocked! We cheered for LOTR, had lots of competitions, won lots of prizes and there was a great atmosphere!

WORST
--Roman Polanski's win. Fuck that fucker up his ass.
--Martin Scorsese winning. Goddamn Roman Polanski.
--The winner of Best Director. For fucks sake, I still can't believe this - what was Oscar THINKING!
--Alyson Hannigan didn't go!
--No acting clips!
--The 59 past winners. I think some people in the cinema fell asleep.
--The flashbacks of all the performances by the past acting winners before announcing the nominees and winner - TOOK UP WAY TOO MUCH TIME!
--Mickey Mouse presenting an award. What the hell did they even need Jennifer Garner for?
--Renee Zellwger not performing "I Move On."
--Renee Zellweger. She looks ugly now, I love her acting, but she is far too fucking skinny. At the live Oscar cinema ceremony in Wellington NZ we had competitions to find the highest calorie meal she could eat to stop her looking like a twig. Goddamn it, Renee - I said give that girl a frickin steak & kidney pie for fucks sake!!! Grrr!! I love you Renee BUT EAT SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!

It looks like I hated more things than liked them, but the truth is this is the best Oscar ceremony in a long time (except 2001's - that was AWESOME!).

Steve Martin rocks! Fuck Whoopi and Billy - let's have Steve for the rest of the ... EVER!

I am very enthusiastic today. :)

Oops I mean Martin Scorsese NOT winning in my second rant of this year's Oscars. Can't be stuffed going back and changing it.

Oh, my overall fave moment was (can't believe I forgot THIS!)

Best moments being Adrian Brody preforming what is, in my opinion, one of the greatest Oscar acceptance speeches of all time, and his delayed reaction to this announcement. Its like he had no idea he would win, not even the slightest clue, a truly impressive man. Also, Spirited Away winning best animated picture has renewed my faith in the academy, they finally did something right.

As a side note, John Stewart said it best when he joked "yes, we the academy applaud you Michael Moore, for speaking your voice and taking a stance on gun control. Congratulations! here's your oscars!!! Why now, whats this here? stop that!! Don't voice your opinion you fool, why on earth would we want that?!!"I don't necessarily agree with what the man said, but they should have seen it coming....

Travesty's of the evening were Chicago winning best fucking picture (a great decision up there with "A Beautiful Mind", "Shakespeare in Love", "Titanic", and so forth....and LORT not even being nominated for best make-up. Somehow only two nominees in that category? I guess I didn't see the same movie they did, but oh well. Another year, another round of sqrew-ups...

When we live in a world where peoples biggest rolemodels are the faces they see on TV, this is the only way to do it.

Some don't have a mind of their own, so they should be open to other ideas than the lies they're being told on the news, and not just "stand by their leaders" (wether it's US, Irak or Sweden).

In ten years, Rings will still be widely loved, and the prequels will still be scorned. My best guess.

The good:
-Chris Cooper winning Best Supporting Actor. A very deserving win, and a classy speech.

-Catherine Zeta-Jones for Chicago. Chic wasn't my favorite movie of last year, but she was great in it.

-Rob Marshall not winning for Chicago. I'd hate to think that Scorsese would lose to ANOTHER first time director.

-Eminem winning the Oscar. Unexpected, but good.

-Adrien Brody's speech. I may've wanted Lewis or Cage to win, but he made up for it with his speech.

-Steve Martin. 'Nuff said.

The bad:
-Chicago winning Best Picture. Though it was expected.

-Gangs not winning a single Oscar. Not even a technical one.

-The Kaufman's not winning an Oscar. Bullshit.

-The 59 winners segment. Pointless filler.

Ugh I know, that whole skit was painful to sit through. They were clearly going for the AW SHUCKS reaction but it was a bomb.

Here are some of my picks:

BEST:

*Adrien Brody, Chris Cooper, and many other men crying and giving heartfelt speeches.

*Catherine Zeta Jones looking THAT good when she was about to go into labor at any second.

*Michael Moore riling up the crowd.

*Conrad H. Hall's son accepting the award on his behalf.

*Chicago not sweeping every single award, therefore giving the show a tiny bit of unpredictability.

WORST:

*The evil Disney character segment.

*Steve Martin making about 20 different comments about how hot some of the women there were. Some of his material was amusing but this got old pretty quickly.

*The "War on Iraq" clips reminding me what I was trying to forget.

*The way Renee Zellweger looks these days.

*Gangs of NY, Julianne Moore, and Adaptation getting no love.
