This film is so friggin awesome. Forrest Whitaker is Ghost Dog and he is lethal. I liked him better than Leon: The Professional, sort of like a black Toshiro Mifune/Golgo 13. Jarmusch always puts out great films and this is his best since "Dead Man" starring Johnny depp. Cool Documentary extra on DVD and music Video. I want to be a samurai, oh well, I guess I will have to stick with being a karate/ex-porn star from the seventies. Hey, at least i got reed Rothchild...I mean Chest Rockwell to back me up.

Hey Brock, junior/senior hipster schmoe...YES, I will be one of the first to respond to this because, YES, I really loved this movie, too!

Unfortunately I can't comment on the DVD, but the film was pretty goddamn cool. And check this out...I usually HATE Jim Jarmush's stuff. I thought DEAD MAN was one of the slowest, boringest movies that I had ever seen in my entire life, but this one had a little something...well, cool about it.

One of my faves of this year...definitely!

Mind you, I've heard others say that it was SLOW as well, but that didn't strike me this time around.

For anyone who sees this flick on the video/dvd aisles, I suggest you give it a shot and see what you come up with. Think THE PROFESSIONAL with less action, more humor and a cool Samurai/hip hop soundtrack

The reason I really like "Ghost Dog: Way Of The Samurai" and "Dead Man" is that Jarmusch is like CubbyBear from Starsky & Hutch, he always has the 411 on actors...I dig the way he uses a guy who did a broadway play of "Lenny" and turns him into a limping, geriatric Flava Flav-quoting reading glasses-wearing mafioso-has been, and the scene in "Dead Man" where Billy Bob Thornton as a redneck and Iggy Pop as a tranvestite redneck arguing over who gets to make Johnny Depp their bitch. "You sure got purty hair, and your skin is like a girl's." Robert Mitchum, Lance Henrikson, Gabriel Byrne, on and on and on...the mix of people is always just right and although it can be a bit slow, it always has something to say...besides the soundtracks are always cool, from Neil Young ("Year of the Horse" by Jarmusch was a great rockumentary) to "The RZA" (of Wutang Clan fame...C.R.E.A.M...Cash Rules Everything Around Me...git down wit yo bad self...damn skippy

wow... a reply in a sea of brock landers.

Ghost Dog rocked... have you only seen ghost dog and dead man though?
Everything by Jarmusch rocks.
And if you like Jarmusch, get Fishing with John... John Luries interview based movie.
also, Ghost dog had something Highlander NEVER will... Integrity.

I first checked out "Fishing with John" on IFC and it rocked...John Lurie really is an interesting character, and a great musician, check out the soundtrack to "Down By Law"...the ice fishing part with Tom Waits was my favorite...I also enjoyed "Down By Law" but since this topic was titled "Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai" and not "Jim Jarmusch", I decided to make an attempt at remaining true to the name...

Understandable...
Yeah Ghost Dog was truly one of the best Samurai films made this decade, I don't think anyone could have done it wuite the same as Forrest Whitaker either. And the cameos...
This movie gets a 9/10
