This one's for Mr. Brock Landers. I just read your Best Buy diss and well, I couldn't disagree with you more. While buying DVD's last Tuesday, I couldn't believe the cashier when she told me that Braveheart which I thought was 15.99, had been reduced to 9.99 US because of an unadvertised special. To put it bluntly, I almost crapped my drawers. I also picked up T2: Ultimate Edition for 20 dollars, that's insane. If I'm ever in the States again, you can be sure Best Buy will get my business. Big deal if the case for American Psycho was busted, I'm sure they have a liberal return policy, don't sweat it.

I LOOOVE Best Buy. It is so fun going there and it is most definatly my favorite store. They have tons of DVDs, VHS tapes, video games, Tv's, Cds, and computers!!! I love getting up on Sunday and looking in the Best Buy catolouge.
I kinda diagree when you said there were low prices, but most of them are pretty low. Lots of the DvDs are mostly $25 where I am.

:D Geez.. it was just 8years ago... but from the statement of one member above..
Wow.. I never thought it was that long ago that DVDs average at $20-25 each..
now-a-days a T2 Ultimate Edition can be bought for $4.99
This post confused me....It took a minute to realize the first 2 posts were from 2000, I was really wondering about that T2 price...:o

Nothing makes me happier than spending $60-70 at Best Buy and getting about 8-10 awesome movies that I'm always proud to have in my DVD collection; and it keeps me entertained for the following week.

American Best Buys must be better than Canadian Best Buys. People keep talking about this great find or that one and for a great price. Films I'd love to get but no store including Best Buy have them here. Up here the only good points of Best Buy is low prices and exclusive swag that comes with some new releases.

Best Buy is my choice for DVD shopping. They're cheaper than FYE, Borders, and B&N AND have a much nicer layout than Circuit City (which always looks a little dingy to me). Not only do they have new DVDs at cheaper prices, but older movies are practically giveaways.

I've been foregoing Best Buy and buying my DVDs pre-owned off Amazon.
I haven't had one problem, and the flicks I want all end up costing me a few bucks.

I love Best Buy but its easy to rack up a hundred dollars worth of merch if your not looking at it.

Is it just because I have locations around me that are a lot better than Best Buy, but I just don't find them that great at either selection or prices really. Occassionally, they'll have pretty nice deals on select titles, which is true for other stores too though.
I mainly shop at Fry's, and am lucky that I live fairly close to a DVD Planet as well. Also, FYE is damn good at prices and selections on used DVDs, and for the most part, they are in mint condition.

Id love to shop at other stores ive seen mentioned (frys, futureshop, dvd planet) but the only stores we have around here is (FYE, Best Buy, Circuit City, Borders) however my FYE isn't as focused on prices as others might be.
Borders is real expensive too.

I do most of my shopping at Best Buy, Circuit City, MovieStop, FYE (for the exclusives), and occasional stops at WalMart and Big Lots for their bargain bins. I also order off Amazon and Ebay sometimes.

my normal DVD hunting saturday run includes 3 best buys, 5 FYE's, a Wal mart, a Circuit City, two Targets, and 4 Newbury Comics. Newbury comics is GREAT for finding OOP releases (like the Anchor Bay ones), Blue Underground Releases cheaper than they sell on their official website. They have a VAST used section as well, it amazes me some pl don't realize they have an OOP release and sell it, good for me tho, I get em cheap.

I've never found a DVD worth buying at an FYE or a Barnes and Noble/Borders. It's like they are doing you a favor by simply carrying DVDs. Even the used DVDs at FYE are overpriced.
My usual stop is Best Buy. I try to go during the week when I can, because they usually have great deals. (Office Seasons 2 and 3 for $20 a piece). Target has some great prices too and is a much cleaner store than the Wal-Mart by me. For the more expensive DVDs (Criterions, box sets, special editions), I usually try to buy them on eBay. You can usually find some great deals on slightly used but in great condition. It usually depends on the S&H the seller is offering though. I got a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Criterion for about $11 after S&H and an Oldboy 3-Disc for $15.

That's just a lie really. I used to manage an FYE and I've bought enough DVDs to know that their used prices are for the most part, cheaper than going to any other store, barring any huge sale the other store is having. And its not like their "used" is actually really used, for the most part, its all brand new, just shrinkwrapped. The used selection they have, depending the FYE location, is usually a lot better the new selection at stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, or Walmart.
DVDs that sell like at $9.99 or $12.99 new at other stores, typically sell for $6.99 used at FYE, and $14.99, usually sell for about $8.99 used. Then when you toss in Buy 3, Get 1 free type deals that they have, it actually sweetens the deal a little. I only shop at FYE now when I want to see if I can pick up any random obscure or hard-to-find titles that they may just have in stock, often they do.

Hey quick question, being that you managed a FYE why is it that they shrink wrap new DVDS and sell as used.I'm not complaining about it bure sure am curious.

I used to work at Media Play and a lot of people would just bring in a pile of movies they have. Sometimes they were still shrinkwrapped because they never got around to watching them. We just didn't bother opening them up when we put them on the used shelf.

Wild, for a minute I thought it was Return of the Doctor.
Best Buy does have cheap prices, but they also have really expensive prices too. I always feel you get roped into the store by some sale they have, because they know you'll overpay on somehting else and it'll all even out.
Best Buy can suck my best nut (the left one).

The reason is because a lot of what they take in is stuff that regulars who come in pretty much every other day with potentially stolen stuff which are often sealed. So no matter what we buy back open or sealed we sell them as used. So there's of stuff you could find that's literally brand new

When I walk into best buy with a set plan just to go for a sale and seeing all the other dvds setting there on the shelf I go into panic mode, then I proceed to look around for movies I want instead of looking for sales.
