I dont know if anyone discussed this yet, if they did im sorry, but did The Core have a plot change? I remember the original plot was something like the earth stopped rotating or something, and they had to detonate a bomb to stop it. Now it is something like there is a weapon and they need toblow up a bomb to destroy it.

I see where you made the mistake. This is the plot, in my own words:

The military uses a new weapon that can cause Earthquakes anywhere in the world. This weapon causes the Earth's inner core to stop spinning, which in turn causes "superstorms" to arise and cook the planet. A team of scientists are recruited to travel into the core, with nuclear weaponry, to jump start it and save Earth from ultimate destruction.

Welcome to the boards, and I hope this helped! :)

Aha, you THINK I made a mistake.... but read what the summary on yahoo movies says...

"Geophysicist Dr. Josh Keyes (Eckhart) discovers that an unknown force has caused the Earth's inner core to stop rotating..." :D

I think thats where I read the summary first, but I dunno, you could be right.. Anyone else know anything about this?

The trailer clearly says that the government project that was used to create earthquakes is what caused the core to stop spinning.

The trailer also has a bit of dialouge that goes like this:

Military Officer: What caused this?
Dr. Josh Keyes (Eckhart): Project Destiny. We killed the planet.

I doubt they'd change the whole structure of the plot after or during filming, but I could be wrong. Who knows?

I've been trying to find an answer to this on the web, you guys seem to be the only ones discussing it.

Salon.com (today, 3/28) has the same type of review:

"Aaron Eckhart plays a geomagnetics specialist who's called in by the U.S. military to help figure out the cause of a sudden rash of weird events: people with pacemakers dropping dead in their tracks, spooky-looking northern lights appearing in parts of the sky where they don't belong, and the like. After he figures out that the earth's core has stopped spinning, which renders the planet vulnerable to cosmic radiation and other bad juju, Eckhart and a mismatched team of specialists set out to cut through a jillion miles of rock, crystal formations and toasted-marshmallowy looking goop to knock its lazy ass back into action with a nuclear blast."

Did someone forget to send out a new copy of the movie to reviewers, or were the reviews written long before the plot change?

There is no plot change! the only reason we are talking about this is because someone misunderstood what they read and asked a question.

The above review is correct, they don't give away the military aspect because that is supposed to be a surprise.

And the military and some of the main characters even know that the military casued the problem but they LIE about it to hide that fact, until the end.

So no plot change, I wish they would have, maybe it would have been a good movie.

Out......................................
