I saw the trailer to this in front of Harry Potter & The Chamber Of Secrets, and it really didn't look too bad at all. The TV spots SUCK though! They are doing a horrible job promoting this one on TV. But it doesn't matter, because I love Amanda Bynes and will eventually see it no matter what. I think she's cute and funny. She's great on the underrated WB comedy WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU. Without her, I might not be quite as interested in this movie. I think it will definitely be better than THE PRINCESS DIARIES. I must say though, I'm kind of surprised the character that Bynes plays in this movie is actually 19. From the previews I was thinking she was around 14-16, but definitely not 19. That's completely fine with me though.
Anyway, I "probably" won't see this in theaters, but I will rent it for sure on video. Of course, I know a couple of my friends actually think it looks good (they were the ones I saw HP&TCOS with), so who knows, I may end up seeing it with them if they actually see it in theaters. I usually would never spend money on a movie like this in theaters, but since it has Bynes, I might bend the rules a little ;)...
WHAT DOES EVERYONE ELSE THINK? (I'm probably the only person here that actually "willingly" wants to see this)

I think this movie looks awful. The trailer just annoyed me with its unfunnyness and the TV spots are now annoying me more. My friend does want to see this movie for some reason, and for some reason she thinks I'm going to see it with her..... I don't know why though, cause I ain't going anywhere near this "gem". ;)

Holy airbrushed poster! The poor girl looks plastic and her face is distorted!
Anywho, I'm not interested in seeing this film...however if I had to choose between this and The Lizzie McGuire movie, I would choose this.
What A Girl Wants is a movie that my 8 and 12 year old cousins would love.

I agree completely.
Never mind that it makes the movie look like The Princess Diaries for people too stupid to understand THAT film.

I have absolutely no interest in seeing this movie, it looks like an exact clone of The Princess Diaries.

WHAT A GIRL DOESN'T WANT:
Warner Bros. changing posters and billboards of 16-year-old thespian Amanda Bynes flashing the peace sign for its upcoming movie What a Girl Wants to avoid any political overtones. The poster now shows her with her arms hanging at her side.
I'm sorry but I really do not understand the reasoning behind this. The movie has absolutely NOTHING to do with this war on Iraq to my knowledge!!!!! So what if she's flashing a peace sign in the poster?? Political overtones my ass.........

That kills me. They are retracting the poster because she's making a peace symbol?! Yet no mention of her shirt that breaks one of the rules of flag ettiquette: don't WEAR the U.S.A. flag! Hollywood......

lol, good point, but why is she holding up a peace sign anyways? i've never really thought much of it, but they should be retracting the posters due to it's uselessness of the peace symbol lol.
It's an ugly poster anyways cause her face is just so... how should i put it... 'Fake' looking.
i know people want to see light and funny movies, but i swear, if i see this movie making tons of money, i'll loose complete faith of life.

I was talking to my cousin on the phone today and she told me that she saw on TV (I think it was CNN) that people were protesting about the poster for the movie WHAT A GIRL WANTS. The reason is because Amanda Bynes is flashing a peace sign on it. I guess a lot of people that are for war were mad about it or something and refused to see the movie because of it. They actually thought that the poster was made just because of the war and this made a lot of people pissed. So Warner Bros. decided to change the poster to one of Amanda Bynes with her hand on her hip instead. Personally, I think this is incredibly stupid. The poster was done a long time ago, way before the war was even going on. It wasn't intended as an "anti-war" poster. The creators didn't even know that their was going to be a war when they made the poster, so unless they are psychic, there's no way they could have made the poster that way purposely. The reason I think the poster is the way it is, with Bynes wearing a flag shirt and the red, white, and blue colors, is because the movie was once called ALL AMERICAN GIRL, but then it was changed to WHAT A GIRL WANTS.
Anyway, I swear some people have no life. There's nothing wrong with protesting, but some people protest about the stupidest things. My local theater is getting this on Friday and they have the original poster up. If I go to the movies while this is playing and there's actually people protesting the poster and movie, I won't be able to keep myself from laughing and I'd even be tempted to tell them to get a life.
This kind of reminds me of when people were protesting THE PRINCESS DIARIES because they said that it was trying to send out the message that girls with curly hair can't be pretty ... That was just hilarious! I can't believe some of the things people protest.

Actually DH, I thought that it was only that you weren't supposed to wear the US flag "literally." So you couldn't cut up the flag and make clothes out of it (like in the movie DICK). I didn't think you weren't supposed to wear clothes with flags on them. I don't see anything wrong with wearing clothing that have the US flag on them. They sell plenty of shirts at OLD NAVY with the US flag on them, and I actually have a couple of different shirts like that. I know a lot of people that have shirts with flags on them. I actually think flag clothing is kind of cool, and it's not because it's an american flag, that actually doesn't mean a damn thing to me. I just think they look cool. I'd even wear a flag shirt with another countries flag on it. I just don't care and I don't take it seriously. I'm not promoting anything or dissing any other countries, because that's not the reason I would wear them. Hell, I actually wanted a big ass flag blanket, and I did see one at Wal-Mart, but I didn't like the material.
Anyway DH, are you sure that it's not that you just can't "LITERALLY" WEAR the US flag!? Because that's the way I always thought it was, and if it was any different then why would they have so many flag t-shirts and stuff!?

I think this movie looks terrible and overly cliched. Amanda Bynes is pretty, but she needs to work on her acting chops and quit that lame show What I Like About You. She has potential, but not if she sticks to stupid stuff like this...

I am pretty sure only those in the military are allowed to wear clothing with the US flag on it. And, as for companies making shirts with the flag, when have companies become respectable?

Why aren't people supposed to wear them? Obviously it's not illegal, so what's to stop people from wearing them? What exactly is the problem with wearing a flag shirt? I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. It can't be that big of a deal if it's not illegal. I think the reason it's not illegal is because it's all a matter of opinion. The people that have a problem with it, don't have to wear them. But the people that don't have a problem with it, can wear them.

What a Girl Wants looks like a silly little load of fluff about the American gal who gets in trouble in an uptight world. Not a fan of Buffy so don't know much about this Amanda Bynes except she looks fairly cute. No expectations for this one...might catch it next week if I'm really bored.

Does anyone else find this Bynes chick kind of creepy-looking? In the poster she's got this eerie, plastic, Stepfordian smile plastered across her face the likes of which I haven't seen since Denise Richards in Starship Troopers.
Speaking of this poster, I'm getting a lesbian vibe from it. The title "What a Girl Wants" is placed between her crotch and her exposed, barely-teenage lower belly. The stars on the flag are right on her breasts. What does that say? That, like J. Love, her boobs are her ticket to stardom? And we all know what a peace sign means when a tongue is stuck through it.
The more I look at this one-sheet, the more it skeeves me. I'm really getting disturbed by it.

Mike, your taste in movies is quite strange. This movie isn't one I would imagine any male would be caught dead seeing unless they were forced to like I was because my GF wanted to see it for some reason. I got to see Phone Booth and A Man Apart with her also and paid for A Man Apart and Phone Booth. I wanted to give them the money but just snuck into WAGW. This is so obviously made for girls so why are you seeing it?

I "LOVE" movies of all kinds and will usually give pretty much anything a chance, unless I think it looks completely unbearable. I like Amanda Bynes and I want to see WHAT A GIRL WANTS, it's as simple as that. Sorry if I don't fit into your idea of "how a male should act," but oh well, it certainly doesn't bother me.

What A Girl Wants - 8/10 (B+)
This movie was just too damn cute and charming. It was definitely better than I expected. During the first part of the movie I was thinking I'd probably give it a 7/10 (B-), then as the movie went on it turned into a 7/10 (B), and by the time it was over my rating was a solid 8/10 (B+). This was certainly better than The Princess Diaries (6/10 or C+). The adorable and talented young comedic actress Amanda Bynes carried the whole thing. She was funny and very entertaining to watch. She held my interest the whole time. I can't wait to see her in more movies! I love this girl!
Overall, a very enjoyable teen family comedy. It was sweet, sad, funny, touching, and just really entertaining. Of course, the fact that I love Amanda Bynes made the movie that much more enjoyable. And I'm also very happy to report that the song "What A Girl Wants" wasn't played anywhere in this movie. Thank god for that!
Man, someone here thought my liking Kissing Jessica Stein and Sex & The City made me gay, just wait until they see this. Me liking What A Girl Wants must make me EXTREMELY gay. ;) Oh well though, I don't care what anyone thinks. I'm ME, and I'm not going to like/dislike a movie/show just because it doesn't fit into the image of how some people think a guy is supposed to act. If liking these movies/shows makes me gay, then yep, I guess I am ;).
