View Full Version : Who's the Best NHL player, and Who's your favorite NHL Player?
Er, yes.
Best: Peter Forsberg. The man can score (closing in on 30 goals), pass (70 assists), take down basically anyone that plays the game, and manages to dominate despite refs swallowing their whistles when he's on the ice.
Favorite: Dan Hinote. This is what all hockey players should be like. He makes 1/22 of what Jaromir Jagr does, but he comes out to play every day, makes big hits, can chip in offensively now and again, and will defend anyone on his team.
Lemieux or Lindros. I've not really been keeping up with hockey for a few years, but those two were my favourites a while ago. I liked Felix Potvin, mainly because he has a cool name.

The best player presently playing is none other than THE MAGNIFICENT ONE...Mario Lemieux.
When this guy is healthy, he's the most skilled and entertaining player to watch. It's sad to see the Pens crumbling before our very eyes; I respect him for standing by the franchise, when he can easily cut his losses and go for a winning team (you listening Bourque?).
Favourite is Jaromir Jagr. This guy is a beast on the ice, unstoppable! He just needs to put in the effort day-in, day-out.

I'll just focus on goalies for best - Patrick Roy
Favorite player - Michael Peca
Damn straight. Roy is the man.

I'm a goaltender, so, I am a bit baised :) ...... oh, and btw, I am talking about the present
I think the best player right now is, Marty Turco. He stepped in for Belfour, who had a terrible season, and got the Stars back on track. He's young, excellent style. I think he has an excellent future.
My favourite is the man himself, Patrick Roy. A goaltender's goaltender. He is agressive, quick, sharp, etc. At times he has bad games, but overall, excellent player.
Honourable mention : Ed "Eagle" Belfour
Good to see Roy's popular around the world, not just in Denver.
Yeah, Roy's bad games are usually badly timed (couldn't you have given up six goals to the wings in the regular season instead of game seven?:D ), but he has consistently been a dominating player.

The best is Mario Lemioux right now, gotta go with an unoriginal choice.
My favorite player is probably Owen Nolan...damn that he shifted to an entirely wrong team there.
I like Theo Fleury too, but he's been in the shits recently, so...not going well there.
And of course Alfredsson, Bonk & Hossa.
Fleury's got a likable face, and he's a pretty good player, but the way he's always exploding on the ice screams "asshole".

Yeah, I get the same vibe. Plus, he's had the alcohol trouble and all. I saw him live once, back when the strike was on, and he played in Finland during it, played in my favorite team, no less...that probably contributed to him becoming one of my favorites.

GOALIE:
Best: Marty Turco, Dallas Stars - He has been phenomenal all damn season.
Favourite: Jose Theodore, Montreal Canadiens - He'll turn it around next year
Least Favourite: Patrick Roy, Colorado Avalanche - He's a cocky prick.
CENTER:
Best: Joe Thornton, Boston Bruins - Although he's on the Bruins, he is nearly flawless as a player...too bad he's on Boston.
Favourite: Steve Yzerman, Detroit Red Wings - My favourite player of all time, and would be my #1 pick in a fantasy draft of every player of all time.
Least Favourite: Mats Sundin, Toronto Maple Leafs - I hate the leafs, and I hate their captain more. He's cheap, and a pussy.
RIGHT WING:
Best: Todd Bertuzzi, Vancouver Canucks - Tough, big, scores goals, angers opponents, best offensive player in the game today aside from the left-winger on his very team.
Favourite: Todd Bertuzzi, Vancouver Canucks - Just can't resist the big lug.
Least Favourite: Jaromir Jagr, Washington Capitals - Never liked him, never will despite his talent.
LEFT WING:
Best: Markus Naslund, Vancouver Canucks - Best player today.
Favourite: Ryan Smyth, Edmonton Oilers - Gritty tough winger, that is one of the best producers in the game.
Least Favourite: Darcy Tucker, Toronto Maple Leafs - Complete and utter Jack ass.
DEFENSE:
Best: Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit Red Wings - No doubt about it
Favourite: Wade Redden, Ottawa Senators - Will someday be in the elite, if he isn't already.
Least Favourite: Phil Housley, Toronto Maple Leafs - Just fucking retire you old bastard!

The Patrick Roy crack...I'm just still bitter about how he left Montreal, no class.

One of the reasons why I like Roy so much, is that, him and I have the same styles. Obviously his are more dominant, but still. My friends always refer to me as Roy.
But enough about me :D.
arto: I think Nolan has found his home. Better Toronto then Ottawa ;)

BEST
Well if Lemieux's healthy he's the best for sure. Problem is, he;'s never healthy. I think it's hard to crown one player as the best. I think there's a big 4 of elite players in the NHL.
Peter Forsberg
Markus Naslund
Todd Bertuzzi
Joe Thornton
I really like all those players, but my favourite player is Mats Sundin. How can anyone question this guys heart and leadership? And he has some real grit too. Last year, dude took a high stick to his inner eye against Carolina. He got 15 or some amount of stiches in the dressing room, came back and scored 2 goals. THAT'S grit/balls/heart.
Other players that I dig.
Eric Brewer
Steve Yzerman
Alexander Mogilny
Anson Carter

Well, Rated R, I'd like to make two (friendly) points.
1. Turco and Theodre would not be half the goaltenders they are today if Roy had never played (lest we forget, he invented butterfly).
2. The management in Montreal is who you should be mad at. They refused to pull Roy in one of the worst games of his career, instead letting Detroit score goal after goal on him, when he was obviously on his H game, or something. It was that day that he requested to be traded. I blame his coach, not Patty.

I think we can all agree that Mario Tremblay had his head up his ass as the coach of the Habs that year...

bob, I was equally mad at the organization. But I had to choose a side, and I decided to continue to be a Habs fan. They are in better hands now, and I am happy for it. Patrick Roy is the greatest goalie of his generation, perhaps of all time. However, at the moment, Turco is the best goalie. I wasn't picking best players still playing throughout their careers. I stated who I thought was the best at this moment and time.
I still say Roy handled it badly. He could have been more of a stand up guy. Instead he cried like a baby so he could be traded. I will never like him as a player again.
