Here is a thread I am starting to find out what all the Schmoes think of Ms. Portman (Attack of the Clones, Anywhere but Here, Where the Heart Is, Mars Attacks, for those of you who who for some unexplainable reason don't know who she is).

I think she's absolutely great! She's a very good actress (watch her in anything other than Star Wars and you'll see what I mean). She's really smart and mature, as well. She's a frickin staright A student graduating from either Princeton or Harvard, for goodness sake!

Anyway, she is also the most beautful actress in Hollywood. I don't just mean the most beautiful CURRENT actress, but the most beautiful of all time!

If you're thinkin' "Man, this guy sounds kinda obsessed" the truth is, I probably am (not in a weird stalker kind of way, though). Anyway, let me have your thoughts about her!

Well, her performance in BEAUTIFUL GIRLS is actually quite touching...I'm hopefull it will change your mind.

I've always been a bit nonchalant when it comes to fellow Natalie Ms. Portman. I think her career has taken a nosedive, performance wise- she started off extremely promisingly with breathtaking performances in both Leon and Beautiful Girls, but since then, her roles have hardly been diverse or interesting enough to showcase any real acting chops. She was the original choice for Adrian Lyne's Lolita- I always find that interesting.

Looks-wise, she has that fragile sort of beauty, in my opinion, that makes her almost seem unapproachable. She's beautiful, but I could never imagine her being sexy - very similar to Audrey Hepburn's cool, classy aura.

I don't love her, but she's not a bad little actress.

Hmmm. She's cute and all, but sexy? Friggin' HOT like some people say? No, I DON'T think so. After being involved with Star Wars she has gained a large following of admirers. But as for her acting career, she could have done more ambitious projects instead of popcorn flicks.

For all the obvious CGI in Attack of the Clones, Natalie was definitely the best special effect. Of course, I can happily say the same about the other films she's done.

Ok, it's been a few months now and I have changed my mind. She was incredible in Beautiful Girls and good in Everyone Says I Love You, but she's still bad in her other films. I can't give a her a big YAY for talent since she has only impressed me in two movies, but her performance in BEAUTIFUL GIRLS is one of the best female supporting performances ever and for that she gets a mild yay.

You took the words right out of my mouth. As for the detractors, I kind of take pity...this is the warm-up to becoming a cinema icon and the next American bombshell. The Professional was terrific. She was a great surprise. She's already two jumps ahead of the rest of that cast. STAR WARS prequels were a good place to showcase her raw talent. Now she just has to hit that one perfect role, and she's an icon.

It appears that Natalie is starring in a limited release film called Garden State. The plot sounds like it could be pretty good. I think this thread could be revived with info and pics from this new film. Anyone who sees the film can post their opinions here, as well (as I don't want to drive out to LA if the movie isn't very good). Most importantly I don't want this to become a movie review thread. Any reviews posted should focus on Natalie's performance in the film.

In fact, BTT, when I become a major blockbuster Hollywood filmmaker (I can only hope), I'll make a movie of it! I'll call it "King of the Universe," it is about two average Joes (or is that Schmoes) who embark on a race to marry a certain female celebrity. There is extra incentive for them, of course, since their rich uncle will pay the winner one million dollars! The movie would star none other than you, me, and Natalie Portman!:D

I would end up getting her, of course, since its my movie!:p

I saw Garden State last week. She obviously needs someone who directs actors well (which is why she, like most of the cast, is dreadful in Star Wars) but I was hugely impressed with her in GS, one of the best leading actress performances of the year.

Damn straight. She was so good in "Closer" I forgot it was Natalie Portman placing Alice. She was superb. Vunerable, vindictive and at times quite loathsome which is some way to go for an actress who usually plays safe and adorable.

I REALLY want her to win the Oscar and will be so proud if she does (proving the doubters wrong) but I think Cate Blanchett will nick it....I hope not though. Both were great but it would make my year for Nat to be forever known as an Oscar winner!

Bad news, Natalie did not get the Oscar she deserved.

The good news, Natalie Portman will be starring in the upcoming Wachowski brothers film, V for Vendetta, based on the graphic novel.
