Woohoo! This follows the trends of the many other trivia threads there are, but I shall explain it just in case. I ask a question, then some one else answers it correctly and posts his/her own question for another person to answer, and so on.

I'll kick it off with...

What NBA team has won the most NBA Final championships? . And for a cookie, how many did they win?

MikeyB
03-30-2003, 04:35 PM
Boston Celtics and I believe it was 16 titles.

Which NBA team has lost the most titles (in one city)?

Raw Chili
04-01-2003, 08:49 AM
Lakers??? wild guess

MarkItZero
04-01-2003, 10:09 AM
Lakers
They lost 12 times.

Which NFL team has led the league in rushing the most times?
How many times?

Indiana Sev
04-01-2003, 12:07 PM
The Bears? 16 times, correct?

This next one is easy, clue, the answer is not the Florida Panthers!

Which NHL team has won the most Stanley Cups? How many?

Morgana
04-01-2003, 01:38 PM
Crap, I used to play hockey trivia, I should remember this.

Montreal Canadiens, not sure...about 18 times?

Indiana Sev
04-01-2003, 01:40 PM
Correct...24 Cups!

Your turn, Morgana.

Morgana
04-01-2003, 02:18 PM
Ooops, missed that by only 6 Cups. lol. Thanks for the break, Indiana. ;)

All right, here's another hockey trivia question...

What year was Lord Stanley's Cup first awarded? And as a bonus, which two teams played in the very first finals?

Benny
04-01-2003, 08:13 PM
The Toronto Arenas defeated the Vancouver MIllionaires ofr the first Cup in 1918.

To celebrate March Madness-

Who was the last player to be named NCAA tournament Most Outstanding Player who didn't play for the winning team?

PapaJupe2k
04-03-2003, 11:29 AM
I like the fact you got away from the hockey questions, but this one is tough. Give us a hint, what year was it?

MarkItZero
04-03-2003, 12:13 PM
1983 Hakeem Olajuwon
Phi Slamma Jamma lost that year to Jimmy V.

Q: Which NFL team holds the record for the longest consecutive streak of winning their regular season opener.

Bonus: How long was the streak and when did it start?

RicochetShaw
04-03-2003, 03:09 PM
Cowboys?

RicochetShaw
04-23-2003, 08:40 PM
okay, I was recently informed that my complete guess of The Cowboys was correct, so I shall continue the game (with an easy one)....

What NBA player has won the most NBA championship titles?

Doc Holliday
05-05-2003, 09:05 AM
Bill Russel...I think.

kidkre0le
05-13-2003, 04:39 PM
You're right Doc.

Cabrini Green

Here's a question -
Who is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all time leading receiver (also all time leading rusher)?

PapaJupe2k
05-17-2003, 12:38 AM
James Wilder(?)

Cabrini Green
05-18-2003, 09:01 AM
Yeah you're right. He played from 81-89 with playoff finishes in his first two years (two road losses to Dallas) then seven straight losing seasons.

PapaJupe2k
05-19-2003, 11:31 AM
I never would have got it if you didn't include the leading rusher clue. I can't think of anything off the top of my head, somebody else go ahead with a question.

PapaJupe2k
05-19-2003, 12:08 PM
All right here's one, I know it's a little early for college football questions, but here goes.

I'm sure most of you remember seeing Doug Flutie's hail mary pass to beat Miami back in 1984. Even if your a younger schmoe, you've seen the play sometime on highlight reels over the years.

Who was the Boston College reciever that caught that miracle pass?

quoth_the_raven
05-19-2003, 01:33 PM
its so nice your letting the english schmoes in on this one...

:D:D

Grebdron

Gerald Phelan?

PapaJupe2k
05-19-2003, 02:33 PM
Yep, go ahead with a question Greb.

Grebdron
05-20-2003, 04:01 PM
I'll abstain, and leave the question asking to a more knowledgable sports fan.

PapaJupe2k
05-21-2003, 01:40 AM
If no one else can think of one, here's a baseball question.

Last Saturday was the 24 year anniversary of the 23-22 Phillies/Cubs game at Wrigley. Mike Schmidt hit four homeruns in that wild affair, a Cubs player hit three homeruns in that game, who was he?

PapaJupe2k
05-22-2003, 12:23 AM
Disregard the Mike Schmidt clue, I had two different games I was thinking of confused. I'm just making these up out of my head, not taking them out of a book or anything.:D

Here's a better clue, he is one of the two 400 hr men who are Hall of Fame eligible, and not in. For a shiny gold star, name the other one as well.

PapaJupe2k
05-27-2003, 02:00 PM
Last hint: Go back and read through the MLB Discussion Thread and if you pay attention you may just find one the answers to this question.

Shakamaker
05-29-2003, 12:16 AM
Dave Kingman?

PapaJupe2k
05-29-2003, 01:40 AM
We've got a winner folks!!!! Darrell Evans was the other 400+ HR man not in the Hall. Go ahead with a question of your own my Aussie friend.

Shakamaker
05-29-2003, 11:18 PM
To keep the thread alive, I'll stay in the US with this easy one...

Which active MLB player has the highest career batting average?

Puck Bond
05-30-2003, 11:19 AM
Will venture a guess and say Larry Walker...my 2nd would be Mike Piazza.

I kind of had an idea, but wasn't sure. I knew he was always up there in BA and playing at Coors Field is certainly an advantage. I'll be back in a little bit while I try to think up a question, but if anyone else has one on their mind go ahead and jump in.

Hey Shakamaker, do they show much American sports over in Australia? You seem to know quite a bit about it, just curious.

PapaJupe2k
05-30-2003, 01:06 PM
Here's an Olympic basketball question, so as not to leave out any European Schmoes.;)

Who was the U.S. coach in that ill fated 1972 farce of a gold medal basketball game between the U.S. and those evil Russians.:D

For a bonus point and a real stiff shot of the finest Russian vodka, who was the Russian player who made the "winning basket"

Grebdron
05-30-2003, 01:33 PM
Henry Iba.

Doug Collins' two free throws gave the USA a one point lead with three seconds to play.

Aleksandr Belov made the game winning shot.

Ivan Edeshko made the pass.

Fuckers.

How many games did Walter Payton miss in his career?

Moviefan1234
05-31-2003, 08:02 AM
None I believe. Not sure though.

Cabrini Green
05-31-2003, 09:19 AM
He missed one game during his rookie year is all.

Here's one -
In the illustrious playoff history of the Detroit Lions (yes I am a fan) there has been one 300 yard passing game. Who was the quarterback?

PapaJupe2k
05-31-2003, 11:54 AM
Bobby Lane (?)

Cabrini Green
05-31-2003, 12:42 PM
Surprisingly no

Here's a hint - It’s the only playoff game the Lions have won since the merger in 1970.

PapaJupe2k
06-01-2003, 04:20 PM
Gary Danielson(?)

Munson
06-01-2003, 07:35 PM
That game was against the Cowboys around 1991. I can't remember who the QB was though.

Correct you are. Here is the last hint - he later moved on to appear in the Pro Bowl with the Chicago Bears.

PapaJupe2k
06-01-2003, 11:02 PM
All right, I know it now, because I'm a big Bears fan. I'll let someone else answer it though because I missed on two guesses already. I didn't even remember Detroit being in the playoffs then.

Yeah, I love US sports, and the way they're presented. I love the stats, but more importantly, the analysis. In Oz, commentators simply reguritate stats (facts) and hardly analyse (using the stats to back themselves up).

I get ESPN and FOX over here on pay-tv. Ever since I went to the US as a kid, I fell in love with Baseball. First live game I saw was the (then) California Angels vs. the Brewers. We left after 9 thinking it was a tie. :o

I went over to Boston for work a few years ago and got to see a BoSox game. Been a BIG fan ever since.

My other teams are the NFL's Oakland Raiders (thank god they moved back), the NHL's LA Kings, and the NBA's LA Lakers. Been following them Lakers since 1987.

I took the day off work to have some brekkie beers and watch the Superbowl (Monday morning in Oz) loss to the Bucs. They new how to stop the west-coast offense, so I wasn't surprised at the loss. What hurt more was the OT loss to the Patriots in the snow the year before.

Anyway, since Nachokoolaid is at the fridge, let's get this thread rolling again..

How many individual batting/fielding records does Ricky Henderson currently own, and what are they for?

Cabrini Green
06-12-2003, 09:11 PM
I think he has the all time stolen base record and the most leadoff homeruns to start a game in history. Anymore records he might own I don't know.

Shakamaker
06-13-2003, 03:16 AM
He owns...

Stolen Bases - 1403
Caught Stealing - 335
Bases On Balls (Walks) - 2179
Runs - 2288

...but that was a little tough, so someone else have a go.

Nachokoolaid
06-13-2003, 05:32 AM
Since I got the last one, and I was gone for awhile, I'll jump in here.

What was the score to the Super Bowl in which the winner scores the most points in history? Who won/lost? and who was the MVP?

PapaJupe2k
06-13-2003, 11:47 AM
Hmmm, I seem to remember Dallas scoring in the 50's one time. I'll go out on a limb and say:

Dallas 55 Buffalo 17

MVP: eh ..... Emmit Smith

This is just a guess

Grebdron
06-13-2003, 11:57 AM
San Francisco - 49

San Diego - 26

Total 75 points.

MVP Steve Young.

I think.

Oh this is just dying a horrible death. I'm gunna kill it....

Which AFL player was famous for wearing yellow boots in the 80's?

Cabrini Green
06-17-2003, 08:34 PM
The answer to the last question (If I understand correctly the highest score for the winning team alone) is San Francisco 55-10 over Denver with MVP Joe Montana. Dallas only had 52 in one of their wins over Buffalo.

For the current question don't you mean AFL player in the sixties when the leauge existed instead of the eighties? Can't say I know the answer to this one.

I think I successfully killed this thread. If anyone feels like reviving it, please proceed.

BTW, yes, I was referring to Australian Rules Football, and the answer was Dermott Brereton.

Anaheim, FLorida and Tampa Bay?

I remember Anaheim and FLorida having particularly ugly 3rd jerseys...

horrorfreak13
10-22-2003, 03:54 PM
Anaheim is one, Chicago, Florida & Tampa are not the other one.

Just to note Anaheim's was ugly and the same with the Kings third jersey

For the last one this team was known for the ugliest jerseys in the 70s & 80s

The Shootin Surgeon
10-22-2003, 04:25 PM
The Canucks!!! it was that ugly jersey with the `"C" that went all around it!!!

horrorfreak13
10-22-2003, 04:31 PM
It was the Canucks out of those 5 teams only Pittsburgh and Boston actually kept theirs with the other 3 soon scrapping their jersey because they were horrible and that's exactly what Boston should have done to their's

RicochetShaw

Good question... is it the Minnesota Timberwolves?

AceD
11-12-2003, 12:05 AM
Nope, not the Wolves. Remember, we are talking #1 OVERALL in the draft. For instance, Lebron was first this year, Darko second, Carmelo third. Only Lebron would count, so you know the Cavs have at least one. But it's not the Cavs.

I'll give you a hint. The team that has the most only has three.

AceD
11-12-2003, 12:08 AM

Sorry, Grebdron, I missed that last part of your post.

Allright, this isn't strictly a sports question, but since we are on JoBlo, which of these athletes HAVE NOT appeared in a movie playing someone other than themself?

-Rick Fox
-Ray Allen
-Allen Iverson
-Kevin Garnett
-Shaq

The key there is players who have been in movies but not as themself.

Part 2:

Which of these NBA players stars in a movie coming out within the next year?

-Chris Webber
-Fred Hoiberg
-Darius Miles
-Luke Walton
-Vince Carter

A two parter, and both are kinda weak questions...sorry. But who'll get it first????

You got it mostly right, MovieFan, though I should have specified that there was only 1 correct answer to question #1:

Rick Fox- He Got Game
Ray Allen-He Got Game
Shaq-Kazaam, Steel, others

Iverson was in Like Mike but as himself. Garnett was the sleeper because he appeared as Wilt Chamberlain in the movie "Rebound" starring Don Chedale as legendary street baller Earl the Goat.

And yes, Darius Miles will star in "The Perfect Score". Your turn, movie fan.
