Gary "The Kid" Carter became the first ball player to be inducted into Cooperstown as an Expo. He won the World Series with The Mets in '86 but in the end he's going into the hall of fame as a Montreal Expo.

That's great news, he did after all play 11 seasons here in Montreal. The fans here loved him back in the early, glory days of the Expos.

Unfortunately this is probably the last piece of good news Expos fans will ever get again.

Eddie Murray was the other player to get inducted.

The more I watch the BoSox, the more I like them...I am and have been a Blue Jays fan, but I don't know. I love all the Boston players and their organization. I think it started last summer when I saw them play(albeit lose) the Angels. It was awe inspiring like Sev said. My dad and I had seats right by Pedeski Pole, I think that's what it's called, I apologize to you Red Sox faithful if I am wrong in my ignorance.

I now want them to destroy the Yankees, and I don't want anyone, even the Jays to get in their way.

PS. Just so you know, I never change teams...I have been a Montreal Canadiens fan my whole life and the Miami Dolphins have been my team since I started watching football. For me to change teams it would take a lot...but I think it may be happening.

What a game! Monster offense from both sides. As a Braves fan who loves a big game, I really had to applaud the Expos in this game, they never gave up and just kept fighting and came back and won it. They could have laid down and went through the old "everyone gets in the game" but they just wouldn't say "die". I love teams like that.

Gary Carter deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame. Even thought it took about 7 times to get him in.

Unfortunatley you may be right. This may be the last good news Expos fans will ever get, but now the legacy of the Expos will forever be represented in the Hall Of Fame. Even if this is the last season for the Expos in Montreal, since they will probably play all 82 home games in Puerto Rico next year.

15 straight wins for Roy Halladay and will try for 16. Man he is the most dominant pitcher over the past 3 months.

Well the "Fleece" as I call it isnt anything remotly special as Fenway, for a die hard B's fan it does the trick. Too bad you never saw the old Garden...that my friend was something to behold...a hockey game at the Garden was a religious experience. At any rate, the FleeceCenter is alright but if you do go I say shell out the big bucks and get front row. Its not hard to do...AceTickets.com can get you there and its damn fun...too bad the NHL is in some BIG BIG trouble and soon...

Back too baseball...

Im real glad about Carter...Ive always liked him and Im happy he is in the Hall where he should be...now if we can just get Blyleven, Rice, and Rose in there!!!

and how about the Yanks almost getting Griffey Jr a few weeks ago or whatever? and for nothing too...Hitchcock, Mondesi, someone else...fer Griff, Williamson, someone else AND 30 million...would have been a steal...Shite, Id still do that trade even with Griff done for the year. Griff is a AL player...you bring him back and he starts to get his 50 homers a year back. And what a shame about him too...he could have had some of the best stats EVER but damn if he didnt get cursed...and the Reds are my NL team fer Pete Rose's Sake! (born in Ohio, cant help it, even like the Bengals)

Hey Haddonfield, I am curious as to how you feel about Boston's acquisition of Scott Williamson from the Reds. Personally I think it will be very beneficial to their bullpen which has been a letdown so far this year. This might be the player that puts them over the top, here's hoping.

I love this deal. Now we have a legit set up man that has been missing since Rich Garces. Ive liked Williamson since day one. Now in the pen we have two lefty situational guys (Embree and Sauerbek) to go with righties Williamson, Timlin, and B.H. Kim. This is a far cry from the bullpen that started this season. Add in Todd Jones and Chad Fox who can do some long relief and I like how things are shaping up.

Somthing tells me young Theo has something up his sleeve. Will we see a bonified number 2-3 starting pitcher before the day is over?

Hey did anybody catch the 7:00PM(PST) 10(EST) Baseball Tonight last night...man it seemed like Peter Gammons was really pissed! Him and Harold Reynolds were talking about how Jeff Weaver threw his towel down after the Yankees bullpen blew his lead the other night against the Red Sox. I've never seen Peter Gammons really get pissed off like that...it almost looked like he wanted to rip his head off! Isn't Peter a Red Sox guy? I know he has to be impartial cause he's an analyst etc. but Boston is his hometown team right? I just thought it was interesting and Harold Reynolds wasn't on the later Baseball Tonight at 9:00PM??? Anyone catch this? thoughts? By the way I like both Peter and Harold...Peter has all the good scoops and Harold is just a good dude...you can tell!

FeverDog420
07-30-2003, 04:49 PM
I caught only the tail end of Peter "No Lips" Gammons' rant, and had no idea what he was blabbering about. But if I were Weaver, I'd be pretty pissed at Chris Hammond, too.

And I doubt Gammons' "scoops" are his; he most likely gets the juicy news because of seniority.

One thing about a recent Baseball Tonight I thought was inappropriate was Bobby Valentine's assessment of Mike Piazza's future. Conflict of interest, ya think?

Oh, and I'd pick Harold Reynolds as my fave. He's smart, hip, funny, and looks good on camera. Unlike, say, a certain lipless commentator.

In other news, surly, temperamental, egotistical Raul Mondesi is now the D'Backs' problem, as George traded his underproductive ass to Arizona for a left-handed bat/utility outfielder and a couple of prospects. Good. Never cared for Mondesi in pinstripes.

PapaJupe2k
07-31-2003, 03:10 AM
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Gammons either. I have no idea why he'd get that pissed off over something like that, I didn't actually see it though.

As for Bobby Valentine, I wish someone would hire him as manager, just to get him off my tv screen. He has no business in that role.

The Cubs acquired Doug Glanville back today. They certainly need someone to step up off the bench, Harris and O'Leary are both hitting about .100 in their pinch hitting roles. Hell they might as well pinch hit Zambrano or Prior opposed to those two. That was great the other night when Dusty left Zambrano out there to hit for himself and cranked a homer. I remember thinking to myself that they shouldn't take him down considering how poor the bench production's been, look what happened.

There's also talk of some sort of a three way that would send Rameriz out (already) and the Cubs trying to get Aaron Boone. That would be interesting.

How bout Bill Mueller? 2 grand-slams, one from each side of the plate. First time ever. Quite impressive too. If only he coulda done that when he was with the Cubs.

I welcome Aaron Boone with open arms, he's a much better player than Ramirez.

As of 3:30 eastern time all is slow on the trade front. I think the waiver wire hurts the trading deadline...in Hockey you get a new trade every 5 minutes!

Hopefully the big stories will break soon....Come on Theo, get us a starting pitcher!

Im watchin Cubs/Giants right now and as they happen they are announcin trades. However, Chip and Steve are trying to do play by play and tell the trades at the same time. From the sounds of it, Nomar got traded to the Yankees? I dont know if this is true or what because after they said it they didnt touch on it again.

The are over playing everything though. 2 pitchers got traded from the Giants to the Orioles, but they kept it a secret as to who it was for as long as they could. They made it sound like Bonds or Galaraga were being traded. Then they said the 2 guys and I said 'who?"

Where did Boone go? Evil Empire, I dont get it.

Damn you Cubbies! Taking 2 out of 3 from my Giants!...Zambrano was pumped up when he caught Bonds line-drive...lucky fuck...anyway...what was I gonna say oh yeah...

You AL East guys help me out here...that means Yankees, Red-Sox and Blue-Jays schmoes and I know there are a bunch, cause those are the only teams ever discussed here! lol What can I expect from Sidney Ponson?! You buggas must see him 4-5 times a year and know him pretty well. I know he's 14-6 this year with like 3.77 ERA but for a shitty team...but he's a career under .500 pitcher like 52-57 or something. It seems like the Giants gave up a lot to get him if you ask me...Kurt Ainsworth looked decent but has been hurt for half the year...Damian Moss has been inconsistent, but he's healthy and the Giants pitching need healthy arms! plus he has been a lot better in his last few starts! and the Giants gave up some supposed stud left hander from A ball...that's quite alot for a career 500 pitcher?! So what can I expect AL East schmoes...Giants need a healthy arm thats why I'm kinda bummed they gave up Moss...especially with Rueter ??? who missed his start yesterday and his arm in question!

With Sidney Ponson the Giants a very good team just got even better he won almost every time he played agaiinst the Blue Jays and winning 14 games on a bad team like Baltimore is impressive.

I don't know if anyone has seen Rich Harden of Oakland yet he's 21 and in his first 3 starts he is 2-0 and allowed 2 earned runs in 21 innings and he's canadian. This kid is impressive and put him with Zito, Mulder, and Hudson now that's an awesoome pitching staff.

Damn, not surprising there were no major acquisitions made by Stand Pat Gillick for the Mariners. We get Ray Sanchez as a back up SS for the oft injured Carlos Guillen, but no offensive help whatsoever. What we really needed was some help at 3B to make up for that dud Cirillo and the inexperienced Bloomquist. Aaron Boone would have fit in nicely there. Having both Boone brothers covering our infield and a decent addition to our offense would have really been nice. Sadly, Gillick and the ownership is too shrewd to compete money-wise with the Yanks. The M's window keeps getting smaller and smaller for a decent playoff run. :(

It's odd the Braves did absolutely nothing. They need a hard throwing lefty in the pen. Offense-wise, they're just fine, but they need some bullpen help, I understand they were making a run at both Ponson and he would have made a fine addition, but I'm ore worried about the pen than the starters.

Good win for the Cubbies today. The bats are still anemic, but it's a win none the less.

Great to see Lee Smith at the ballpark today!:) He was my second favorite Cub from the eighties, next to Ryno. His rendition of the 7th inning stretch sure was intersting.:D

I missed his singing. I must have dosed off around that time. Nothing like snoozing on the couch on a Sunday afternoon listening to the drizzle from outside and the Cubs game on the TV.

Speaking of the drizzle, I cant believe how hard that rain was coming down and they still kept playing.

The Grace fan part of me almost wishes he had gotten a chance to bat at the end with the game on the line.

I would have sacrificed one game in the standings just to see Gracie single home the tying run in the pouring rain in the 9th inning. I bet most of the fans in the park would have been cheering him on too.

Yeah, it was weird seeing him playing his last game at Wrigley (barring some playoff game). It sucks he couldn't have finished his career there and it's too bad to see him struggling this year. He was my mom's favorite Cub player of all time. Would have been nice to see him go out on a high note. Yeah, he did get a nice reaction from the crowd.

That rain did look like it was coming down pretty hard. The umpires were just bound to finish it I guess.

3rd blown save in 5 games I believe. Is there something wrong with him or is he going into a slump?

How about that Kerry Wood huh? 10 strikeouts last night. In the 5th inning he only threw 10 pitches, and only one of those was a ball. Kerry is now 9 strikeouts away from 1,000 career, and currently leads the majors with the most strikouts this year. Meanwhile, thanks to Kerry and a monster shot by Sammy, Cubs win again and move into second place. They are 4-1 so far this month, and in the last 10 games they are 7-3. They are doing something different for once, instead of blowing it in the second half of the season they are coming back with a vengence.

Yeah, I'm getting a little excited also Jackson. But let's face it when they have Prior, Wood, and Zambrano going against the lowly Padres, I think we should EXPECT a sweep. Let's hope Carlos can finish these guys off this afternoon.

Still like to see a little more offense though, but I can't complain right now.

Hey why was Al Micheals doing the Reds/Dodgers game on ESPN last night? I didn't see the start of it and I never heard an explanation. That seemed odd.

Rated Argh ;), it did look pretty dismal for awhile. They were losing left and right, pretty much non-stop. July just really sucked. But now they've won 4 in a row, just swept someone, are 1 1/2 out of first and are 9 for the last 12. How could anyone not be excited?

I would like to take this time to personally thank Shawn Estes for screwing over the Cubs and the Cubs fans. Once again, he loses, subsequently ruining our 5 game win streak and knocking us a game back, since Houston won. Why, dear god why, does Dusty keep using this no talent hack? All he does is lose! Cubs rotation should look like this: Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Clement. Those 4 only. Mix up any way possible, but use just those 4. Wood, Prior and Zambrano are 3 of the top pitchers in baseball, and also most feared.

Fuck the BLue Jays Bullpen, this is the last straw...none of them, not one is worth his weight in shit. Goddamnit! Okay, so their starters aren't great either, but the relievers are a million times worse. Corey Thurman pitches the first 2 1/3 innings and gives up five runs, so who do they bring in? Tanyon Sturtze, and he didn't give up a run...things are looking okay right? Wrong. In comes Jason Kershner, 6 runs later the jays are losing 11-6. Dan Reichert then comes in to allow 2 more to score on his tab. Motherfuckers lose 13-6! Here are the stats of the Blue Jays bullpen:

Tanyon Sturtze 6W 5L 5.84ERA 42K 32BB
Jason Kershner 0W 1L 4.59ERA 23K 11BB
Cliff Politte 1W 5L 5.80ERA 34K 13BB
Aquilino Lopez 1W 3L 3.88ERA 57K 28BB
Trever Miller 1W 2L 4.54ERA 34K 19BB
Pete Walker 1W 1L 5.85ERA 17K 16BB
Juan Acevedo 1W 5L 6.57ERA 28K 18BB
Scott Service 0W 2L 4.72ERA 35K 8BB
Jeff Tam 0W 4L 5.64ERA 26K 25BB

Juan Acevedo has now been released by the Jays, as he was by the Yankees. Those stats for him are combined from both teams. The only partially impressive pitcher here has been Aquilino Lopez, and he might develop into something good. But the rest of them are garbage. Get rid of them all and start over

Juan Acevedo has now been released by the Jays, as he was by the Yankees. Those stats for him are combined from both teams. The only partially impressive pitcher here has been Aquilino Lopez, and he might develop into something good. But the rest of them are garbage. Get rid of them all and start over

Couldn't agree more with you.

Geez, that is a terrible bullpen. Who is the closer on this team?

Well Jackson, your best friend Shawn Estes didn't pitch to well again yesterday.;) A little more offense than usual helped the cause though and the bullpen came through big time. Today's game is HUGE, they'd cut the gap the 1/2 game.

Hey, they won. Thats all I care about. Plus, Estes didnt get the win, Guthrie did. Oh yeah, and, Cubs are 1/2 game outta first thanks to winning today.

Even though I hate the Sox, I gotta say its amazing to see them and the Cubs moving up, at the end of the season, like they are. Could get very interesting come playoffs.

And the Phills won, too. (Sorry, Redbirds, but Philly needed the win more than you.) Totally kickass night.

oh wait, we have threads here about something else?

Well, Suppan sort of pitched well for the Bosox. Didnt get much help from Walker. Man has Walker hit the skids.

That Ichiro homer should never have happened! 3 reasons why.

1. Walker should have never made that error!
2. The ball hit to Nomar should never have taken that hop!
3. and Jeff should never have thown that pitch!

For your information Bonds didn't even play in this series...he went back home to be with his ailing father Bobby...the Giants are riddled with injuries at the moment...no Bonds, no Aurilia, no Durham, no Rueter...Expos are a good team and they always play the Giants tough...so the Giants had no chance.

Ahhhhhh but last night Barry was back in the lineup against Ortiz and the ML leading Braves...what did he do you ask?...oh just win the game in the bottom of the 10th with a walk-off blast into McCover Cove...ho-hum...welcome back Barry we need you!

Unless of course, the Cubs somehow manage to make it into the playoffs, then it will be a party in Wrigleyville!!! And all Cubs fan schmoes will be invited to my place for burgers and beers before the games!!!

The Expos next dozen games are against the two teams (Phillies & Marlins) they are chasing in the wild card race.

They are five games back at the moment. If they blow this opportunity they have nobody to blame but themselves.

It is like 95% sure this is their last season in Montreal, so they better put in a real effort the next two weeks and show their fans they really give a damn.

I almost punched someone at work today. Allow me to explain. A guy came through my line with a Cubs hat on, and since I had been at working during the whole game, I asked him if they won. He said 'Dunno, havent been home yet to see any of the game". We chit chatted a little about things like "After Estes/Alfonseca yesterday we could use a win" when this guy who was in another checklane walked past mine. I noticed he had the Cubs logo on his shirt, and thought he was coming over to say something because he had over heard us. I wish. It was a Cubs shirt. It had the colors, and the big C, but after the C it said ork, as in Cork. The dude just stopped, looked at his shirt, looked at me, and started walking again. I wanted to punch the guy for being an asshole like he was. I thought his shirt was really tasteless too.

Anywho, the Cubs did win today, Clement had another solid outing, and Cubs kept pace, as usual, with the NL Central.

So Pedro is pissed that some called into question his "sick day."

Could it have something to do with the fact he skipped the team picture that day? And that managemnt said they were going to do something about it? So the big wigs give him some shite, next thing he is "too sick" to pitch the "biggest" game of the season.....

Now he wants out of Beantown.

......Well......

I happen to agree with Pedro. Fact is the local radio station, the one the players dont listen too, had some callers bitch about Pedro and the next thing you know its as if they punched him in the face. So Pedro was pissed...said he wants out for the 10th time I can remember...tho He had NO problem signing his one year extention...(guess 17.5 mill will do that)

I have to say, what player wouldnt want to play in Boston? If you win it all, you will become part of something you couldnt even dream about. They all know it. Go ask Mo Vaughn about it. Im still pissed about it, I mean COME ON! Kerry strikesout 11 in 7 shut out innings and gets taken out only to have his game blown. Hopefully the loss didnt go to him. Yeah but I gotta wonder whose dick Troy O' Leary is sucking to even have a spot on this roster, let alone being let off the bench during an important game. And since Dusty makes these decisions, it must be Dusty's dick that he is sucking. And since that is ufair to all the players on the team who are not willing to suck dick for playing time, Dusty should be fired!!!

Nah, then everyone would open one up for the team they're rooting for and the forum would get clogged up.

On a sad note, the Marlins caught up on the bottom of the ninth and won the game versus the Expos.

Well, apparently a schedule has been made with them playing all 81 home games in Montreal next season.

So, it's looking good. If another month or two pass and they still haven't found another city to take over the team, we're home free.

Was it Kierkegaard, Dick Van Patton or Meat Loaf who crooned "Two out of three ain't bad"?

So, Rocket gets his 100th Fenway win on the last day he's probably ever gonna pitch there. Nice to see the Beantown faithful give him props during his curtain call. My image of Red Sox die-hards is totally blown.

In other news, I was thisclose to being at Shea on Sunday to see my Phills sweep, sweep, sweep the Muts away! But, dang, the Marlins win again even with Lowell out for the rest of the year? At least the D'Backs dropped one to push themselves away from the Wild Card slot that the Phills are cock-fuckin' earning on this fuckin' endless road trip.

Oh, sorry, is this thread just for the trials of the silly Cubs and Expos? Give it up you blue birds; neither of y'all are doing anything in October but riding the Seaman's Specials. I'd rather forget what happened over this long weekend.

I have not given up hope. I suspect they just might be able to sweep, sweep, sweep the Phillies in their two game set starting tomorrow. Why, you ask?

Here are a few reasons why...

1. After the spanking the Expos gave the Phillies in Montreal last week, their confidence when playing them is very high and consequently Philadelphia's is low.

2. The Phillies blew their lead in the bottom of the ninth today, they have zero momentum going into tomorrow. Neither do the Expos, but at least they didn't score around 9 runs and still lose the game.

3. The Expos ace Javier Vazquez is pitching tomorrow, it's almost a done deal. Telemaco (1-2) is pitching for the Phillies. :D

4. The Phillies HATE their manager Larry Bowa as well as their pitching coach. This does not bode well for the team's run for the Wild Card.

5. Guerrero is on FIRE!!!!

These are my top 5 reasons the Expos will win tomorrow and carry it over for a sweep of this short series.

Then, off to Puerto Rico, where hopefully, the fans cheer on the "home" team to 6 more victories.

Go Expos! :)

I've never seen Alou or Alfonseca act like that before, I have reason to believe that the ump said something to them for them to go insane like they did.

That first game was a shocker though. I went to work in the 9th inning, go on break 3 hours later, and find out the game pretty much just ended. 24 innings of baseball in one day, thats enough to test anyones nerves. But still, the ball was fair. Anyone who watches the replay can see that.

They play 10 nof their remaining 22 on the road and their road record sucks.

Expect a huge bidding war for Vladimar Guerrero after this season or in other words expect the Yankees to spend a ridiculous amount of money on him after this season.

As for the Cubs-Cardinals game last night yes the Cubs got screwed and Moises Alou had a point but you don't pull a Roberto Alomar and spit on an umpire. I don't agree with what he did but I don't blame him for it.

I was there for all 24 innings. And I've got a monster hangover to prove it.

Great games though, and a beautiful day to be at the park.

I didnt have much of a view of the "fair" ball that Alou hit (I was too busy giving high fives to our entire section celebrating Alou's three run double....bastards!) But I definately saw Alfonseca get pretty worked up about it.

Speaking of Alfonseca....He has looked pretty solid his last few times out. Could the six-fingered one be making a comeback? And just when he is pitching good, he will probably be suspended.

What....a.....comeback. Cubs are down 7-0, win the game 8-7. Dusty and Larussa, along with a pitcher for each team, get ejected.....man this has been a heated series. And you know what else? It's been great! I was watching the game today before I went to work, and when Dusty and Larussa got into it in the 3rd inning, and Dusty was saying 'fuck you fuck you fuck you" (you could easily read his lips) I said to myself "either there is gonna be a fight today or they will be ejected". Looks like the latter came true.

Dusty had every right to argue though, Clement didnt hit Haden (i think thats his name) on purpose. Then when Clement got up, whatshisface threw at him and knocked him down, then actually did bean him. That was intentional. Dusty had every right to argue "why are you warning my team when they are the ones doing it on purpose". I was laughing my ass off at seeing Dusty and Larussa go at it from across the diamond.

Then, im driving to work, got the game on and I hear 'J.D. Drew just hit a grandslam homerun, 6-0 Cards" and I think to myself, as I turn the station "well, figures, Cubs blew it." But of course, as always, Cubs pull their heroics while im at work and when the game. And now that im home I cant find highlights anywhere. Shawn Estes is starting for the Cubs. Congratulations St. Louis, you've already earned the win today. You guys dont even have to do anything and you'll still win the game. I'd like to commend you guys on a hard fought series, and even with the loss today, we still took the series from you 3-2.

I just want to be the first to say that the umpiring during this series has SUCKED!!!! Sammy got ejected today because he argued a check swing, Grudzie got called out at second when he was clearly safe, and just now the home plate ump called a ball that rolled foul fair.

I for one have enjoyed watching this series, it has been extremely heated, and very interesting/exciting to watch, but I am going to be extremely glad when it is over. Im sick of the Cardinals and im deathly sick of these shitty umpires.

I believe in sportsmanship, which is precisely why I have no love for Sosa. Do you really want him to have a ring after what he did? Sorry if I'm not over it, but what Sosa did was unethical and unconscionable, and he deserves no accolades from me.

Maybe this is spillover disgust from the possibility of Pete Rose being reinstated, but rules are rules, and Sosa broke them.

I don't think, in fact I know FeverDog420's comments aren't directed towards Cubs fans, he just thinks Sosa's deeds were unpardonable and he has the right to think that and voice his opinion.

I wasn't too happy to see Sosa's bat was corked, but I respect Sosa for admitting to it (I think Rose has yet to admit that he gambled on baseball, I could be wrong) and serving the suspension.

He broke the rules and he served his time. Personally I forgive him.

Well, thanks for getting my back, Sev. (Is that Elton John I hear? Who cued "Can You Feel the Love Tonight"?) You're right: I've got no ill will toward any and all Cub fans. Good for y'all that not one but two Chicago teams are creating pennant fever in the land of Ebert and Lake Michigan breezes. I admire your resolve. Lord knows y'all have been waiting long enough for some kind of late-summer excitement at Wrigley and Comiskey (I don't play the corporate name game).

So, um, like, sorry if my written expression of my feelings didn't come out as even-keeled as I wished. No disrespect was intended toward my fellow Schmoes. And I've basically forgived Sosa for his transgression, but a condition of his parole is no championship this year, I say. Sucks that the rest of this rather cool team has to suffer for it, but a team's a team, good and bad.

Oh, and as far as I know, Rose still hasn't fessed up. What a despicable affront to the game of baseball. If he's destined for the HOF, let the lifetime ban stand and let him in posthumously.

Aargh, that man makes my blood boil. I remember his contributions to my Phillies back in the early '80s, but that's no reason to wear rose-tinted lenses. His ethics go against everything that baseball stands for in my mind, and to see that smarmy pic of him is to retch in disgust. Feverdog, I respect what all you said, by why are you still harboring agression towards it? Roberto Alomar did the same thing a few years back and you dont hear anyone talk about that anymore. Sosa made a mistake, he admitted it, I forgave him, and so did pretty much everyone else. He's not gutless, or arrogant, or whatever slanderous terms you want to throw his way. He loves the game, has a passion for playing, and gives it his all every day of the year. If anyone deserves to win a ring, its him and the rest of baseballs 'perennial losers'.

And 'fuck the fucking Cubs...." is a little malicious to me, quite unsportsmanlike also I must add.

Actually, we here in Chicago really dont pay much attention to the White Sox. The last time the Sox were in the playoffs they didnt even sell out Comiskey. Where as the Cubs routinely sell out day games in June.

Dusty has lost it, he's totally lost it.

Cubs are starting a series against the red hot Brewers tonight, in Milwaukee, and hes got Juan Cruz (1-5) going up against the 'Cub Killer' Ben Sheets (10-11). Has Dusty paid no attention to Sheets the past couple years? The Cubs didnt beat him last year all the time they faced him, and have done so only once this year. Why, dear god why, does Dusty have the shitty, 3.02 era 0-2 in last 3 starts, 1-5 record for the season JUAN CRUZ going against him?? Where the hell is Zambrano, or Prior, or Clement, or Wood even? Come on Dusty, are you trying to lose? We just got within a 1/2 game out of first, and you want to go and ruin it!!!!

I dont like the fact that Dusty is underestimating the Brewers yet again this year. Didnt he learn his lesson last week when we lost 2 of 3 to the Brew Crew. Especially because the Brewers own the Cubs this year.

I can definately see some post-huge-series-win letdown the next couple of days.

I already said I (basically) forgive him. But, unlike Alomar, Sosa fucked up this year. If the Cubs make it to October in 2004, then Go Cubs. But, sorry, not this year.

And I feel Sosa's arrogant every time he does that annoying skip out of the box when he goes deep. I have no love for any type of flashy showmanship on the field. Just play the damn game and run to first.

Okay, and I was paraphrasing a line from (I think) Glengarry Glen Ross ("Fuck this fuckin' job!). Sorry it was taken the wrong way.

Yeah, the power failure being the Expos offense as of late.

While I should be happy the Braves are coasting to another Division title, I'm a little paranoid at their sloppy play of late. I eralize they are letting"the other guys" on the team play since they've pretty well sewn it up, but I can't help but thinking about a ball going through Furcal's legs or for Greg Maddux to have one of his meltdowns during a pivotal moment in the post season...

this is the torture of being a Braves fan.... ;-)))

You know, maybe me saying that the Cubs will lose is actually like a blessing in disguise. 2 games in a row now I've told myself it would be a guaranteed loss, and low and behold, they have proved me wrong. I think I figured out a sure fire way to get my Cubbies into the World Series, once the playoffs start, I expect the Cubs to lose every game. ;)

I don't get the Yankees this year. They've been blown out more times than I care to remember, yet they've been in first place for most of the season. The bullpen's been a joke all year, Boomer's back is acting up again, Giambi's in the biggest slump of his career, Jeter's been on the DL twice, Matsui hasn't done much in a while, and Steinbrenner's going off the deep end again. But this team retains the top position, however tenuously. How?

Can't they just play the Twins and Angels for the rest of the season? They own those teams this year, and I'm weary of the butt-kicking they've taken from both Soxes, and Jays, and A's, and, and...

But I still like the Red Sox. Sure, I hope they lose every game, but they're a very charismatic buncha guys this year. I've developed a geek crush on Jason Varitek even though my love for Posada remains healthy. (I got a thing for catchers.)

At least the Phillies are also still hanging in there, despite sucking (Mesa!) more often than not lately. Can't these overachieving Marlins just go away already?

It has been one strange season. The Sox were in first for some decent time the first half of the year but I will be damned if I know how this record setting club who day after day gets 10+ hits doesnt have a better record...oh yeah....pitching.

SI has a pretty cool colum about the Yanks/BoSox this year in there currunt issue. Its worth a look.

I hope that my boys pull the next one out on Sunday. Im ready for a change. This Red Sox team is different. They are together, they are one, and they are ready to do what ever it takes. Least I hope so. Least it seems so. What a very strange year.

and yes, go Phills. Everyone but me in my family was born and raied in Philly. I hope they can nail this thing down.

Except for Pedro. And Ramirez (or is Ortiz the one with the mysterious throat ailment?)

They played really sloppy tonight (three errors???), but have taken the first three from the Mets. Which is what they need to be doing: Beating up on the also-rans.

And, hey, doesn't Rheal Cormier's contract expire this year? I wonder what he'd look like in pinstripes...

The beauty of this seaosn is, Pedro WAS sick. and the fans called him out because we are assholes. He got pissed. Pedro was sick. Nuff Said.

Manny on the other hand, well...To quote my fave hockey announcer..."all is fine on planet Manny"

And all is fine on planet Red Sox. Petey and Manny are just fine and this whole last two weeks have really been a Good Thing. This has only helped.

and Ortiz is the one who cant help but kill whatever Yankee pitcher he sees! :D

I think Rheal Cormier's contract is up. I thought they overpaid at first because I saw what he could "nt" do first hand, but he has turned out to be very SOLID to say the least.

Another damn fine performance by the Cubbies today.

I have a softspot in my heart for them (until they play the Braves ;-)))

I actually find myself watching the Tigers more closely this year...I have absolutely no clue why, maybe it's the trainwreck mentality......

Oh, thats right. The Cubbies

Who needs football (especially in Chicago) when you have baseball.

Yes, yes, yes. Cubs have swept 2 teams in a row. (That loss to St Louis wasnt a loss, it was a screwjob, so, that equals a win). No we just need Houston and St. Louis to keep losing so we can pull away like we have been and the division is ours!!!!

A joke I just read in today's San Francisco Chronicle that Chicago Cubs fans will appreciate.

"Cubs fans were disappointed to hear that Antonio Alfonseca received a five-game suspension for bumping an umpire. Had it been 15 days, they might be confident about making the playoffs"
:)

Thats funny.
But unfortunately, Alfonseca has been pitching really well his last few outings. I think he finally got out of the funk he has been in all season, but then of course he goes and gets himself suspended!

I'd like to apologize to the Cubs fans for the Expos beating them tonight. Montreal is out of the race and I don't mind them playing spoiler but not against the Cubs.

Truth be told I'd much prefer the Cubbies win the wild card race than the fuckin' Phillies or Marlins.

Hey, relax guy, it wasnt Montreals fault they won. It was the Cubs. The bullpen couldnt come through, just like they really havent been able to all year. Buck-up buddy, the Expos will lose tommorow, dont worry.
