Well the 2003 baseball season is officially under way...

This is the place where you can vent your frustrations or boast about your favourite team's exploits. Here's hoping things get hot & heavy here over the course of the season.

Play ball!

Oh, a few predictions of mine...

1) The Puerto Rico Expos will win the pennant.
2) Bud Selig will once again make some foolish decisions.
3) The Cubs will go nowhere...and fast! :D
4) Mike Piazza will get beaned in the head at least 6 times.
5) Pete Rose will be caught gambling on the All-Star game.

what's going on with Derek Jeter?

man, that looked like it hurt last i heard he was out indefinately with a dilocated shoulder.

boy, i sure hope he's ok, he brings alot to the team.

I still don't know what's going on with Derek. I'm trying not to think the worst.

Hey, Bing: Can you explain that ad showing bird shit on a Yankees cap and telling Blue Jays fans to boo Matsui? WTF is that all about?!?

A 15-2 win over the Mets on opening day (most lopsided opening day win in over 50 years) sure looks to me like they are going nowhere fast!! Cubs had the most impressive debut in all of baseball yesterday. People will learn to respect the Cubs this year, no more of being called "Perrenial Losers" because this year I believe it will turn into "Unbeatable Champions". Mark my words.

I was just checking if the Cubs fans (of which there are many here) were paying attention. I meant no harm, just fooling around, mate.

I'm just bitter because my 'Spos are only playing like 3 home games in Montreal this year and the rest of the time they'll be playing their "home" games in South America or some shit. Put us out of our misery already, move them, just don't let us suffer like this anymore.

Go Cubs!:)

I'm really surprised at the backlash that ad is getting. It was a marketing ploy to get more fans out to opening day at the Skydome; what's wrong with that? I'm surprised that the Yankee brass and their fans don't have a better sense of humour about this. It's not like they have a history of well-behaved players or anything like that...

Geez, I saw Joe Torre at a press conference the other day all serious and shit, talking about how it's not funny and all.

Lighten up, guy (Torre, I mean). Baseball is all about going to the ballpark and cheering or jeering the players, having a good time, throwing batteries at them;) ...

I hope nothing outrageous happens like that this year. I want a real, honest to god baseball season where a war, or a terrorist attack, or a dumbass father and his retarded son, or a greedy player who's only in it for the money (to many to name here), or a cocky bastard who thinks and acts like he's the greatest player in the history of baseball, who goes by the name of Bonds, ruin the fucking game. Baseball aint what it used to be, but I still love it.

But why Matsui? Explain the reasoning of booing a foreign player in his MLB debut. Is it racism? Xenophobia? Or just bad taste?

If baseball players and fans start worrying about one another's feelings then the game is doomed.

Why Matsui?

Because he's an easy target, the other Yanks have already gotten their fair share of "boos".

And why bird shit? What's so fuckin' funny about that?

Have you ever seen a bird shit on somebody? It's priceless. :D

Would you think it's funny if we ran an ad showing Jeter wiping his ass with a Blue Jays jersey?

I don't think Jeter could do that, he busted his arm a couple of days ago. ;)

In all seriousness, it's not racism, it's a harmless ad campaign that the New York media blew way out of proportion.

Go Expos!

FeverDog420
04-02-2003, 03:35 AM
Well, my Yanks have responded with their esteemed offensive prowess. In two games at the Skydome, it's been Yankees 18, Jays 5. Put that in your crock pot and simmer it...

And Enrique Wilson, Jeter's temporary replacement, went 2 for 3 in Game 2. I think we'll be okay for a bit. :p

Fuck. My Cubbies lost 4-1. Clement put us down to much way to early. He threw 4 wild pitches in one inning, not much you can do to recover from that and unfortunately the Cubs didnt. Tommorow the series ends, with Prior on the mound. I look for the Cubs to get the win, Prior was just amazing during Spring Training.

I'm really getting fucking sick and tired of Sammy Sosa getting walked all the time. It's a bunch of bullshit. He's got 499 home runs, let him hit number 500 for fucks sake. He had one more chance today to do it, but do you think Art Howe (Mets manager) would let him get that chance? No, he fucking walks him. Needless to say Howe got a standing BOO by the crowd, but it wasnt worth it. It's only the 3rd Cubs game of the year and Sosa has already been walked 6 or 7 times. Why are pitchers so afraid to pitch anymore? He's a power-hitter, just fucking live with it! Stop being a bunch of pussies and pitch! Thats what you get paid for, to pitch! Fuck it.

Big fuckin' deal. That new ballpark in Cincinnati is so small, anyone can go deep. Haven't, like, 18 HRs been already recorded there this season?

I'm sorry, but home run records aren't that big a deal nowadays. The new ballparks are so hitter-friendly, and creatine-juiced sluggers are a dime a dozen.

How's Sammy's defense? Does he know how to bunt, or steal? And am I the only one tired of his hubristic hop when he thinks he's hit one out? The Home Run Derby is the time to arrogantly admire your own offensive prowess, wouldn't you agree?

The jury's still out on the question of Sammy being "juiced"; I hope not but sometimes I wonder....

He's a nice enough guy but that hop does irritate me.

Well, as for defense, scouts say he has an above average arm, and decent range, enough to fill in at center when needed.

As for steals, if I'm not mistaken, he's had a couple of 30-30 seasons.

As for being juiced, if he had've hit 66 homers, then went back to 30, i'd say yes, but since he's been consistently hitting them, I'd say no.

And yes, I hate that damned hop. ;)

According to Baseball Almanac, Sosa last made the 30/30 club in 1995. Here's a lean, pre-juiced Sosa from around that time, from Play Ball!!!:

http://www.mindspring.com/~dearnett/sammy.htm

[Bonds is the same way; anyone else remember his scrawny frame when he was with the Pirates?]

And I'm a regular viewer of Baseball Tonight, and can't remember the last time I've seen a Web Gem featuring Sosa.

I'm fairly certain he's using steroids, it's ruining the game the amount of players using nowadays; I sincerely hope major league baseball starts random testing otherwise the sport will lose all it's excitement and the stats will mean nothing.

I don't mean to put a damper on Sossa's 500th homer but I don't think it means anything if somebody's athletic abilities are enhanced by chemicals. What's the point?

It's a shame so many big leaguers are using.

Random testing will help save baseball!

I would have to agree with that, I think 500 still is quite a milestone, but it will diminished even further in the years to come. Hitting one in Coors Field or The Great American Ballpark isn't like hitting one in the Astrodome or the old Busch Stadium. With all the expansion teams in the last few years pitching has become incredibly thin, and by god why doesn't anyone pitch inside anymore?! You even try to come inside and your subject to ejection, it's ridiculous.

Be interesting to see who the first man to hit 500 hrs is, that doesn't make the Hall of Fame. I think Dave Kingman has something like 460 and he's not in, but I think that was a huge feat in the days of the huge cavernous ballparks and before expansion.

Ken Griffey Jr, out for six weeks, will this guy ever play another full season?

Yes, that's unfair.

You know what else is unfair? Players taking performance enhancing drugs to improve their production.

The pitchers are just evening things out.

Until MLB starts mandatory drug tests, let them walk Sammy!

Sammys not on steroids. Sammy loves the game more than any player I know. He's excited about every game he plays. You ever listen to him when he does interviews? He doesnt even care about home-runs, he just wants to play and hit. He has a true love of the game, and he stays in shape to make sure he is at the top of his game. Everyones just jealous because he can hit the long ball. Pitchers are just afriad to pitch anymore. I agree with the person who said they dont throw inside anymore. Hell when I played ball I threw inside all the time, I called it "get the hell off of the plate" pitching. Now if someone gets on base and someone that is a power hitter comes up the pitchers puss out and walk them. Its taking away the thrill of the game. Nobody wants to go to the ballpark to see their favorite player get walked everytime he gets up to bat because the pitcher is afraid of him. Wheres the fun in that?

So you're saying that those who are 'roided up don't love the game?

And who's "everybody" that is jealous because Sosa can go deep? The fans? Other players? The media? There's plenty of HR hitters who obviously do not use performance enhancers.

The object of the game is to win, not to entertain the fans. Luckily, they usually go hand in hand, but walking a power hitter is sound baseball strategy.

I dont really give a fuck anymore. Im obviously the only goddamn person on this site that loves the Cubs and Sammy Sosa. I feel like the handicapped kid on the playground that gets laughed and pointed at by all the other kids because he doesnt fit in. Excuse me for standing up for my favorite athlete and for standing behind my beloved Cubbies. I hate the fucking Yankee's. I despise them more than any other team in baseball. But not once have I posted a reply here bashing the team or the players. Not once have I made mention to any of the players being "roided up" or anything derogatory about the team. Why? Because I respect other peoples opinions on sports and the sports teams they enjoy watching. I enjoy watching the Cubs and Sammy Sosa so get off my fucking back.

Hey, I should be the one pissed here, my team is getting shipped over to South America next year for good.

So, I'm just enjoying the fact that they're perched on top of their division right now; and I know Selig is calling Frank Robinson telling him to fuck the team up, the bastard. It's a conspiracy, Major League Baseball can't have the Expos get to the post season.

I should be the one having ulcers. Your Cubs have been in Chicago since the 1800's and they'll probably make the post season this year, while Bud sells us out!

FeverDog420

Damn, Jackson! Almost a century without your Cubs winning a World Series should have enabled you to grow a tougher exterior to other fans! A few negative words about your golden boy shouldn't put you on the defensive so easily.

Lighten up. Enjoy your team. I never said I didn't like the Cubs. Who (besides fans of the Cards) doesn't like the Cubs? They're the Cubs, right?!? That Prior phenom is doing good things, no?

Go ahead and bash Steinie. He's certainly not the reason I'm a Yankee fan; I'm still pissed he let Stanton go, therefore allowing our bullpen to suck ass as of right now. (And I still miss Tino, and, I'll admit it, Knobby and Spence.) So, let 'er rip.

And, Sev, I'm not aware of any Montreal fans, so what could I say about them???

Last season I went to the home opener against the D'Rays, where many fans (not me!) booed Giambi. Well, okay, I may have chanted Tino! Yeah I saw that on Baseball tonight, fortunately, the Ump was a former Marine and quickly subdued the fan. That game was delayed 4 fucking time because of fans on the field. Sox fans are bringing a bad name to Chicago. I guess they cant deal with the fact that their team sucks ass. Funny how the All-Star game is at Comisky this year. Oh wait, excuse me, Cell-Phone Park, or whatever its called now. My vote used to go to Minute-Maid park for having the dumbest name, but now the Sox take the cake. I've never been to Comisky, but I go past there everytime I go to Chicago. I'd love to get tickets to the All-Star game, I only live 2 hours from Chicago. Other than Chi-Town, Detroit is the closest ballpark. The need to have the AS Game at Wrigley though. Now that would kick ass!

Its those damn Chicago South Siders, they just dont know how to act.

I went to the Cubs game Monday night, it was a georgous night. It would have been perfect if the Cubs hadnt gotten spanked.
You also didnt see any drunken North Siders run onto the field.

Anyone who thinks that all Chicago fans are assholes who like to attack people, should know that its just the Sox fans who act like morons. Its not really their fault, they are born defective. (which is why they root for the sox in the first place).

Go Cubbies!

The Detroit Tigers have won 1 game so far this year.

Here's my question...

Do they even qualify as a team?

Aren't they closer to a "bunch of guys getting together playing catch"?

Cubs win, Cubs win! Cubs 16!!!! Reds 3!!!

3 games in a row Cubs have scored more then 10 runs.

Sammy homers, Choi homers, Grudzilanek homers and WOOD HOMERS! Kerry also got his 3rd win of the season (3 and 0 thank you) as the Cubs stay at the top of their division. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, cuz its true, this is the Cubs year!!

I hope you are right. We certianly have the pitching, if the offense can keep putting up runs at this pace, we could run away with the division.

I just wanna say Im so glad Sammy is ok. That was a hell of a shot he took yesterday. I mean the ball shattered the helmet. I have to wonder if maybe the pitcher threw at him on purpose, seeing as how it had enough acuracy and velocity to shatter his batting helmet like that. Im ok with the fact they lost, just as long as Sammy is ok, which apparently he is.

I would, but I am going to be in the Upper Deck so I doubt I will get much face time on TV. (Plus, I have noticed they tend to prefer showing good looking ladies in bikinis rather than focusing on drunk slobs who keep spilling their beer on the person in front of them):D

I am quite sure that that dude was a Sox fan just trying to make Cubs fans look bad.

Or perhaps the problem is because the NFL draft is this weekend, and Chicago fans are worried that the Bears GM is gonna fuck it up badly. Therefore they are taking their frustrations out on the baseball players. (Chicago is after all a Bears town first, everything else second)

That's a toughy.

On TV last night, the Royals were all talking about how they're a bit hesitant and all. Since there isn't too much info on the virus quite yet, I can't blame them.

It IS a disadvantage if the teams aren't completely focused on the game. But what do you suggest MLB does? Move all the games on the road until they can figure all of this out?

Impossible.

Because the fanbase here in Montreal is dwindling more & more since that goddamn lockout (incidentally, the Expos would've won the World Series that year and this problem wouldn't exist now), MLB nows owns the team and desperately wants to move them the fuck out of dodge. They're playing many "home" games in Puerto Rico this year and one of the cities that is up for consideration for the move is Portland. Another is Washington.

I heard nothing about them playing games in Portland this year, so I wouldn't count on it.

Now if that answers your question Morgana, please get your ass back in the hockey thread! ;) :D

The real reason why the lockout took place in 1994 to screw Montreal of a World Series.

Attendance isn't really great in all cities period and I think ticket prices are a part of it, actually the Blue Jays game tomorrow night is selling the remaining tickets for $1. I don't know what the Expos tickets sell for but, I would guess it would be pretty high.

Blue Jays down 9-4 in the Bottom of the 9th and come back and win, and Kevin Millwood pitches a no-hitter now that's impressive.

jackson13
04-28-2003, 12:59 PM
Seeing Milwood pitch a no-hitter yesterday brought to my attention some trivia. I dont know the answer, hopefully someone does, but what is rarer: A no-hitter or a triple-play?

Indiana Sev
04-28-2003, 02:58 PM
Easily a no-hitter, on the sports highlights, during the course of the season I see AT LEAST a half dozen triple plays, they're rare also but it still happens more than a no-hitter.

By my recollection there was only one (maybe two) no-hitters last year.

The perfect game is probably the hardest (none last year), although Mike"The Moose"Mussina from the Yankees came too close, he was an out away or something, what a shame, I think Carl Everett finally got the hit.

Anybody remember who got the last perfect game?

FeverDog420
04-28-2003, 03:18 PM
Yeah, I remember watching Moose's near-perfecto on ESPN in a bar - I was holding my bladder so as not to fuck it up for him. Stupid Everett - the schmuck who doesn't teach his children that dinosaurs existed because they're not in the Bible. Moron.

Wasn't David Cone's perfect game on 7/18/99 the last one? Y'know, when he was a Yankee, the perfecto he threw just over a year later than the perfect game by David Wells (also a Yankee) on 5/17/98? :D :D :D

No-hitters, Perfect Games....

Sure they used to be rare. But times are changing.

With Woods, Prior and Clement on the mound, the Cubbies will soon start piling up the perfect games.

Has anyone ever heard of a perfect series?
You havent before but you will after the Cubs finish up their three game series against the Brewers next week.

Game 1
Cubs Win 6-0
Woods 9IP, 0 Hits, 0 Walks, 0 Runs

Game 2
Cubs Win 9-0
Clement 9IP, 0 Hits, 0 Walks, 0 Runs

Prior 9IP, 0 Hits, 0 Walks, 0 Runs

A perfect game would be nice, but Rocket has never come close to one. I'll be happy with just win #298.

Yeah, this is it. The final year of my 20s. One last hurrah. One final trip around the sun for youthful debauchery. Sigh. At the very least, by best friend turned 29 this past January, which of course means he'll be 30 first. Ha!

And, yeah, the NL East remains a tight race. Millwood's no-no at the Vet was certainly sweet and a big boost for the Phillies (YEA!), but rest assured the Mets will, through pluck and endurance, retain their fifth place title this year. Do I need to mention they, at $120M, have, like, the second highest payroll in the majors? All the Yankee-haters who whine that money buys championships should simply look to their neighbors in Queens. Eight errors in Sunday's double header against Arizona! Twenty-seven strikeouts! What the hell is going on at Shea???

As long as I don't actually purchase a ticket to a game, my boys usually do well. I just got back from celebrating Day 2 of my b'day; I was dragged to some UWS bar where the bartender John kept pouring rounds of shots to celebrate my special day, even though it was yesterday and I never even set foot in said bar before. (I guess my mojo was just so darn infectious.) I was glad to ditch this pub; some weirdo named Chip was hitting on my huzzie, which is fine - I just didn't dig feeling like the third wheel. Good thing that our Mariner buds were there to take my mind off the sitch developing at the end of the bar.

Anyway, we left that bar (Candle Bar) to head over to Eight of Clubs, which (thank god) has an outdoor deck where smoking is permitted. Several Rolling Rocks later, we all grabbed some grub (at some joint where two winos were thisclose to duking it out), then piled into a cab which took us home.

I dunno why I'm blabbing about this. Sorry. I was just relieved to get home and find out my Bronx boys turned it around tonight. ESPN2 usually has Baseball Tonight on at 3; only two hours to wait.

We did have a chat about who's hot and who's not. I confessed that there are no ugly ballplayers - not even Randy Johnson. That confession was met with understood skepticism, but I don't care: I luv all the boys in uniforms. :p

Mark Prior just plunked Bonds!

And Bonds started to charge the mound. But then he realized that Prior would kick his ass, so he turned back. Good thing for Bonds, cuz after Prior kicked his ass, Sammy would have run in from right field and drop kicked him!

(phew, that was close, the boss just walked in and almost caught me posting on Joblo.com. ALT-TAB saves the day again!)

Do any of you schmoes use MLB Gameday Audio? I just bought the package this afternoon. It was $11.95 for the entire season and I get the audio cast of every Cubs game. Its kind of nice to have in my office, so I can listen to the game while I am posting on Jobl...um, I mean working.

It even gives you the choice of which team's radio station to listen to. Meaning since the Cubs are playing SanFran today, I could listen to the SanFran station (in case I ever get sick of Ron Santo)

Sweet. For an extra $10 you can get every single game from every single team. Pretty cool.

Man how bout that Cubs game? Bonds tries to start a fight with Prior, Gonzo ties it in the 6th with a solo shot. Game goes into extra innings, Giants 3rd baseman fucks up, get a runner in scoring position, Gonzo steps up and blasts a 3 run homer to take the lead, the Sosa steps up and says "Im gonna show Mr. Bonds what a home-run is" and he blasts one and Cubs win 5-1. After the game Prior had this to say about what happened with him and Barry:

"`I'm sure it could have gotten heated. I wasn't going to back down from him at all. Just because he's got 15-20 years in the big leagues and 600 homers and I have been in the league a little under a year doesn't mean I have to stop doing what makes me a professional.''

Know what I say to that, DAMN STRIAGHT SON!! Bonds is nothing but a cocky-piece of shit and it wasnt Priors fault the ball hit him. Barry was crowding the plate, Mark threw a breaking ball, it curved and beaned Bonds in the leg. IMO he deserved it for standing on the plate, whether it was intentional or not. Thought he was being all tough by walking out to "curse the rookie" when all it did was make him look like a bigger ass then he already is.

I only saw the first couple innings of the Cub game today before I had to go to work, Prior hit Bonds eh.:D I'm glad to see a young pitcher not afraid to go inside, and what right does Bonds have charging the mound? If more pitchers took back the inside corner we would see a big drop in ERA's and runs scored no question about that.

Think back to the 1960's and Bob Gibson, do you think anyone even thought twice when he continually gave guys a fastball under the chin to keep them off the plate? It was just part of the game, I'd like to see more pitchers go back to that philosophy and retake the inside corner. Damn millionaire prima donna's piss and moan like little girls when anyone even brushes the inside corner.

Go Cubbies!

Yo, anybody hear this about the winning league at the All-Star game will get home field advantage at the World Series?

I swear I heard this on the news last night!

That's bullshit! What's the point of playing your ass off all year if you're not even in control of your own destiny come the post-season.

If this is true it's a horrible decision that will further suck the fun out of the All-Star game...and baseball.

It's too ridiculous to even think about, it can't be true....it's too idiotic an idea.

Doc Holliday
05-02-2003, 10:06 AM
Go ahead and hate on Bonds. If you had him on your team you'd call him the second coming. He's the best hitter in the game today, set your bias aside, look at the numbers, and there is no other player who is doing what he is doing. Yeah Sammy hits 50 homers a year, yeah he's a hell of a player, but he'll never .370, and he doesn't get walked 150 plus times a year. Last year Sosa had 103 walks....Bonds 198. Give Barry those 95 at bats, and his numbers would dwarf Sosa.

Why charge the mound? He's been hit 3 times in the last 3 days. Hell, I'd have done the same thing. He's gotta show he's not going to take that shit from some newbie...although Prior is going to be great. Just like Prior said he wasn't going to back down, Bonds had to do the same thing.

I'm not hating on you, you just have to give respect to a man who can hit .370, hit 46 homeruns, drive in 110 runs, while getting walked a record 198 times!

On the MLB radio package, I got it. I like the Giants, but my real team is teh Pirates....I can admit it. Yeah they suck, but I am a fan and will not jump ship. It's nice to have. I'm a teacher, and it's nice to listen to every once in a while.

This home field advantage thing must be true because it's too stupid to be made up. What if it ends in a tie.:D

As far as guys getting hit by pitches I can see where they would take it personal, but I think there are very few times when a pitcher says to himself "O.K. here comes (batter x) I'm gonna plunk him." Most times it either just gets away or they are trying to back them off the plate. If they get hit enough, they'll get the hint and quit standing on it. Seriously though I'm probably the exception to the rule, but I'd like to see better pitching and shorter games.

Great game today at Wrigley on WGN! I invested 3 1/2 hours of my time and the payoff was wonderful, a walk off homer by AGonz in the 10th to win it. Good pitching and timely hitting, could this be the year?

Also a great scene with Dusty Baker's four year old son singing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" really a heart warming moment. After all it's just a kids game anyway people, we sometimes lose sight of that. Steve Stone even worked in the classic line a ball hit back tword the booth (going into Harry mode) "Come out from under the desk Chip, I'll protect you.":D hehehehehe.

On a side note, anyone Cub fans, or just baseball fans in general who haven't read Steve Stone's book "Where's Harry" it's a must read. It's just a great look back on all the good times he had broadcasting with the legendary Harry Caray, it had me bursting out in laughter from start to finish. A great day Cub fans!

A quick question from a Blue Jay fan to a Cubs fan:

Do you actually like Alex Gonzalez? He's a huge under-achiever. He never amounted to anything in T-O, and I doubt he'll be much more in Chicago. Every season the guy hits under .250 with a plethora of strikeouts...sadly we got shit in return for shit...ah well.

jackson13

Gonzo is an amazing addition to our Cubbies. He is doing awesome hitting this year, and is our elected savior when it comes to extra inning games. Theres been 3 extra inning games this season so far, and every single one Gonzo's gotten up to bat and smashed a game winner outta the park. Cubs are 3-0 in extra innings thanks to Alex.

Gotta ask, anyone think Hee Sop Choi could get Rookie of the Year? I do. His numbers are just amazing for a rookie and last month he was rookie of the month, and so far this month he's better than last month.

MarkItZero

PapaJupe2k

Gonzalez is a really nice addition to the Cub lineup. I don't know what kind of expectations you guys had for him in Toronto but he has been Mr. Clutch and I think he is one of the better shortstop's around. He's got good power for a middle infielder and fields his position pretty well. Most shortstop's in the league are just considered a liability with the bat so I've got no complaints.

Hee Sop Choi has a great chance to win rookie of the year in my opinion. He has a great eye and is only going to get better. I'm sure he'll be playing pretty much everyday by years end. He also fields the position almost flawlessly.

I'm picking the Yanks to win the World Series this year!

Not only are these badboys winning, they're winning convincingly; after they smoked the Mariners last night, Boomer Wells is now 5-0 to start the year. Mussina is my favorite Yankee but I have a soft spot for David as well, everyone hates him, but I think he's a good guy, these people that hate him don't realize that there are about 50 players + around the league with worse attitudes.

Anyway, Yankees will beat the Expos in 6 tough games at this year's World Series....in Puerto Rico.

P.S. The Cubs will lose in 7 to the Expos. Coming close, but missing their shot at glory...

Well there is a $338 million plan to move the Expos to Washington. They join Northern Virginia and Portland as cities who want the Expos next year. There would be one problem moving the team to Washington and that is Baltimore would fight a move to Washington saying it would violate their franchise rights.

My official vote right now for the most embarrasing sports blooper of the year right now was last night's Expos-Giants game. Bonds pops the ball up between first and home plate for an infield fly making hime out automatically then the ball drops infront of the catcher then the Expo player picks the ball up and touches home plate while Neifi Perez tags up on third and goes home for the run.

Imagine if the Expos would have lost that would be embarassing.

Well anyway gotta defend my boys...so I'll keep a running commentary of my team.

Well Monday Night rookie Jesse Foppert out duels Zona ace Curt Schilling only to have the Giants bullpen blow the game in the late innings culminating with Tim Worrell walking in the winning run...Giants lose 4-3!

Last night...Offense gets goin against Dessens...Barry blasts an opo jack in the 1st inning...Giants cruise into the 7th inning with a 5-0 lead...thanks to a 2 run double by Benito Santiago in the 5th and a great outing by lefty Kirk Reuter. Rich Aurilia leads off the 7th with a seemingly meaningless homer to left...move ahead to bottom of the 8th...Reuter hits the wall...loads bases with 1 out....still a great start(Reuter usually goes 6 innings at most!)...manager Felipe Alou goes on to use 5 total pitchers in the inning(tying a NL record) as Arizona roar back with 5 runs...makin it 6-5! This time around Tim Worrell gets the save and keeps the win for Reuter as he has a 1-2-3 ninth inning and the seemingly meaningless solo HR by Rich Aurilia turns out to be the winning run!

Giants bullpen has been extremely ragged as of late...the starters are not making it into the late innings and with our closer out for the year...its gonna be a tough go all the way through this season.

Series tied 1-1 tonight's starters are power arm Jason Schmidt v. MigueluseabaseballasaweaponBatista!

Go Giants! and stop the Barry bashing!

Look I'm not gonna get into a whole big argument here about Barry...but do you know him personally? This image that the media has given him is ridiculous..."cocky ridiculous asshole" I mean come on he is far from that! So he is a rather private person and likes to keep to himself...and would rather stay out of the media spotlight, fine not everybody is gonna be Sammy Sosa(side note Mark McGuire was a surly hardass...but people adored him). Barry doesn't beat his wife, or go out with strippers or get into any kind of trouble at 4AM in the morning outside a nightclub....like many sports figures do and they still get more breaks than Barry. Why do I like him...because he is a great ballplayer plain and simple...I don't give a shit about his personality...and you have to learn to appreciate greatness. I was not around for the times of Ruth and Mantle or Aaron and Mays...I've watched Barry since I moved here in 1992 and he joined the Giants in 1993...10 years I've watched day in and day out one of the best ball-players of all time...and I am thankful that I have gotten a chance to do that. People outside the Bay Area really don't know how great he is and has been(Ken Griffey, Jr. best player of the 90's puhleeze!)...but I do because I've witnessed it for 10 straight years.

...and to add to my point Joe DiMaggio was just as private, and not as much as a media darling as Barry is...but people revere and adore Joe...why? lack of media scrutiny and coverage then as compared to now. You don't know Barry Bonds...you only know the media's projection of him...and DiMaggio slept with Marilyn Monroe=America's hero. Maybe Barry should bang J.Lo or something and people would love him!:D

Jackson...none of this is a personal attack on you...just I hate this stereotype of Barry that is projected to a national audience that doesn't know any better.

Hey...isn't whining part of being a Cubs fan?(or maybe even the law in Chitown) lol just kiddin...I hope they do OK and beat the Cardinals and Astros...hate those two teams! I'm sure Dusty is workin' out for you guys...and those young arms will take 'em far(except Estes hehe...can be great and a walkaholic all at the same time, trust me I know)

So Barry's ridiculous demands are just media-created nonsense? Like his need to have a plush leather recliner in the clubhouse, or be driven to Yankee Stadium in a white limo, or wear that unfair, wussy arm guard???

Giants win 6-0! and take the series from Arizona 2-1. Schmidt pitches a CG SO with 4 hits and 8 K's...giving the Giants beleaguered bullpen a much needed day off....and overall two days complete rest(with Giants off day) heading into a 4 game series in Colorado this weekend(a place where a rested bullpen is a must). Marquis Grissom and Barry Bonds provided all the offense that Schmidt would need...Grissom had 2 HR and 3 RBI, while Barry hit a bases loaded double in the 5th inning, which drove in 3 and made the score 5-0.

Next update won't be until tuesday I guess after the Rockies series.

PuckBond, don't listen to any of these Bonds bashers. If he were on their team he would be their favorite player. Shit, if I hit 73 homers, I'd ask for a cushy recliner too!

By the way jackson13...Pirates 5 Cubbie 2. Woods gets blasted by homeruns by Jack Wilson (hahaha0 and the very underrated Brian Giles.

Um, I don't think so. If Bonds were a Yankee (ha!), he wouldn't be getting away with the shit he does. No special treatment in the clubhouse (Jason Giambi's personal trainer is banned there) and none of that arrogant bullshit posing when he hits a home run. I just love how he's annoyed when he's walked. "Never mind the team as a whole or winning the game - my personal stats are what's important! I don't want all this juice coarsing through my veins to go to waste!! Since I'm slow on the bases, and nothing special defensively, I need to go deep to justify my paycheck!!! I need to hog that spotlight every chance I get!!!!" Jerk. Getting on base is a good thing, you know...

No Yankee fan I know would want this asshole in pinstripes.

Well, lookee here FeverDog...my little ole Blue Jays smoked Andy Pettite and your Yanks. 8-3....Delgado hit two dingers and 5 RBI's. They're closing the gap, tell me one thing, does their sudden surge of wonderful play worry you at all, or are you still counting on their inevitible collapse? With Delgado, Wells, Catalanotto, Stewart, Lidle and Halladay playing the way they are, they are in good shape to continue this trend.

What is with all the hostility? I've gotten over the fact that not everyone likes the Cubs and Sammy Sosa, cant we move on past this Barry Bonds shit? (I agree with everything you said Feverdog though). As for the Cubs, well, a loss is a loss. 5-2 isnt that big of a deal. It's not like a 10-0 blanking or something. Besides, we won tonight. Thats the thing about baseball, you cant win em all. Im behind my team no matter what, and no matter what amount of trash talk or bullshit someone says about them will change it. Cant we all just get along?

I'm an Australian living in Australia. I follow the Red Sox religiously from afar, and am smarting after a 1-2 series loss at Fenway against the pinstripes. Looking forward to Pedro tossing in Yankee stadium next week, but am definately looking over my shoulder at the Blue Jays playing some nice ball.

Just hoping the A's, Angels, Rangers, and M's take enough games off each other for Boston to grab the WC! Can't see us taking 1st in the AL E against those damn yankees!

First, it's "Pettitte." Two pairs of "T"s. Know your enemy. ;)

And, yeah, Baltimore beat Anaheim today (Thursday). The Mets took two of three from the Phillies. Detroit got their tenth win, too. Your point?

Never mind the Yankees; your Jays are still 5 games behind Boston. The Jays' "sudden surge" doesn't worry me in the least. Yes, the Yankees have had a horrible May: Limp bats, myriad injuries, an incompetent bullpen. But with all these (temporary) problems, they're still (barely) in first place.

But Giambi's eye infection will heal. Bernie, Jorge and Nick will all be back before the All-Star break. Though Mo is back to his old self, Karsay's out for the season, but Steinbrenner certainly has the means and the moxie to pick up some decent relievers as the season goes on. (BTW, George: Give Jason Anderson a chance! And while you're at it, bring back Juan Rivera and/or Marcus Thames for outfield backups!)

So, hells no, the Jays don't scare me, or anyone else I can think of.

While we're talking Toronto, whatever happened to Prokopec and Huckaby?

And, BTW, have you read Boomer's book? He makes some rather disparaging comments about the Blue Jays organization and fans. Funny stuff. :p

So you are perfectly happy with Matsui in the leftfeild or whoever else tha yanks have over Bonds. Paaa-Lease! I am not talking about the special treatment, I am talking about what he brings to the field day in and day out.

But if you say no....that's fine by me. :D

Yes, I'd rather have Matsui. Have you seen his defense? He's playing left field brilliantly, in stadiums he's never been in before. Barry's arrogance and his preference for padding his own stats would never be tolerated in the Yankee clubhouse. Torre, if you recall, had Ruben Rivera and his selfish goals traded pretty swiftly after he "dissed" the Yankees by saying, "All they care about is winning." I don't think Matsui possesses that worldview of personal achievement at the expense of his team.

As for Matsui's bat, he's still getting acclimated to the slew of unfamiliar pitchers he's facing. I'm patient.

What does Bonds bring to the field, besides a big bat? I seem to remember a scuffle in the dugout with Jeff Kent. And don't you think there's some resentment from the teammates of Big Baby Bonds? Do they ever speak on the record highly of him? Doesn't that harm team unity?

Blue Jays spanked the Yankees last night proving this is a different team than the one the Yankees played earier in the season.

Blue Jays have a good chance this year if they keep this play up.

Prokopec went to the Pirates I believe...and Huckaby? Well, I never liked Huckaby anyway, he never impressed me. Of all their players he impressed me the least. Here's the deal though, the Yankees, with their super-team really shouldn't even lose a game, let alone a championship, they should win it every season. But the last two years they haven't. They have had the best roster in the past ten years and have won their share of championships but they never impress me. David Wells? Bah! He is always solid but he's a prick, I wouldn't want him on my team, and I know the Yanks don't either. I don't give a shit what Boomer thinks of Toronto and the fans, because we have enough players that love it there and us, we don't need the dipshits adoration. Anyway, don't underestimate tha Jays, they might make things difficult come September.

Who on the Yanks doesn't like Boomer? And why do you think he's a prick?

Why do I think he's a prick? Because he treats the fans like shit! Sure, he does deal with a lot of idiot fans but he should remain professional. And you should know as well as anyone that the Yanks have been trying to unload him for months now, but ohh that clause. Hey, he's talented and is a better pitcher than everyone else on the yanks aside from Mussina(who lost his third in a row last night...to the JAYS!). Like in my anger towards Patrick Roy, I am just a fan, and I chose the side of my team over the former player...I just plain don't like him.

I'm also bitter that not one of my teams has won a championship since 1993, both the Canadiens and Jays that year...but ever since I have been disappointed every year.

You know, Wells played for your beloved Blue Jays for a few years. I bet you liked him then. The man is a good pitcher, theres no denying that. Like him or not, you have to at least admit that.

I never said he wasn't. He is indeed talented, and yeah, I liked him then, but he never said anything about the Toronto fans...well not much anyway. Either way, he is an excellent pitcher, but I still don't have to like him because of it...

EDIT:

The Jays sweep the yanks in a four game series, in New York! Oh yeah!

Now you know how I feel about Barry Bonds. He might be a good hitter, but I dont have to like him because of it.

By the way, this is no cheap shot at Yankee fans, but I hate the Yanks and want to see them crushed this year. I'm sick of them winning all the time. June 6-8 is coming up quick. Remember those days my friends, those are the days the Chicago Cubs are going to sweep the Yankees right out of Wrigleyville.

Fever Dog: You sound like every yankees fan, making up excuses and excuses for your losses, did you enjoy my jays sweeping the shit out of your yanks? where the hell did the yanks bats go this weekend? the 2nd worst pitching in the AL shut them out all weekend.

The Jays have plenty of depth offensively, and once the pitching comes around, the Jays are going to be on fire. Lidle is coming around, his ERA is high, but his run support is insane, hence the 8-2 record, Halladay had a crap april but has come back to look like a cy young contender.

And how about Carlos Delgado/Vernon Wells, honestly there aren't too many teams who can top this duo, maybe A-Rod and Palmeiro, but this duo leads the Majors in RBI, noone comes close. Carlos looks like hes hitting a beach ball, he sees everything.

God i love the sweep of the yanks, ive seen 2 world series while alive as a jays fan, but ive never seen a 4 game sweep in yankee stadium....i dont know which is better?

GO JAYS GO

going to the game tuesday vs chisox, Halladay starting!!

Fact: that's the first time the Jays have swept the Yankees in a 4 game series

This team looks excellent and they have an excellent chance the way they are going if they head into September with a reasonable record because they have the easiest schedule in the history of Baseball the Tigers, and Indians the two worst teams in baseball, plus the Orioles aand the D-Rays.

Plus the Red Sox always fall in October

Hey remember when the Yankess were 20-4 and unbeatable they are 9-17 since.

oh baby jays do it again.

although they didnt play that great of a game, the Whitesox defence was brutal, and that was enough for the jays just to capitalize on that.

going to the game again tomorrow, Halladay vs Colon should be a beauty to watch.

Woohoo! Clemens didn't get his 300th against us! Cheeky sod thought he'd come out with his '300th win' glove did he? How embarrassing. When you try to work the inside but you're game is off, even a star like Clemens must pay the price.

Loving this Blue Jays hype. Talk of post-season a bit premature though!
