I thought it would happen and indeed it did, the Aussies took the top spot this weekend with NED KELLY claiming top honour with a first week total of $2,616,664. Affleck's red suit and Garner's black leather dropped 54% in takings but still managed a #2 with $1,487,919 taking the two week total to $5,440,241. Jet Li's passable action fluff CRADLE 2 THE GRAVE made $1,071,080 to take #3. CHICAGO, which rised 28% in takings, continues to run strong after 10 weeks to be the second highest grossing film in the Top 20 behind THE TWO TOWERS which dropped 27%. Renee and Richard hold with $16,561,408 whilst Peter Jackson's sequel has a nice $45,089,284 after 14 weeks. J.Lo still sits strong after 4 weeks with a nice total of $7,826,704 whilst FINAL DESTINATION 2 took a 44% drop and has racked up $2,834,490. ABOUT SCHMIDT was a surprise mover up 2 spots, whilst Michael Moore's Oscar boo boo has proved successful as his film rised 28% in takings. The Jack Nicholson drama has $3,555,140 to its name whilst the Oscar winning documentary BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE has $4,093,109 after 14 weeks.
THIS WEEK (3rd April): A varied week for movie releases with the Queen Latifah/Steve Martin comedy BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE likely to be the most successful. It goes up against Jason Lee, Timothy Olyphant and Morgan Freeman in DREAMCATCHER, P.T. Anderson's PUNCH DRUNK LOVE and the abysmal looking WHAT A GIRL WANTS starring the oh-so-annoying Amanda Bynes.
