Yes, 'tis a game, indeed.

Me, I like bowling, hell I really like bowling. It's a great game to just go and play with your friends. Admitted, I'm not the best at it, but it's just damn fun. Throwing the ball backwards, between your legs...etc.

My highest score ever is only 154, but hey, I play maybe once every year. So, ya' know.

Your thoughts? Any bowlers amongst us?

Like Pool you have to respect any sport at which you get better the more you drink. I haven't been bowling in a long time, but it is a great night out on the town with friends.

I've even watched bowling a couple times lately on ESPN. The bowlers are taking on these crazy wrestling like personalities. Sometimes its almost funnier than the movie Kingpins.

It's been a while since I've bowled...but yeah, bowling is a blast!

I was in a summer league over a decade ago, and my average was only 131 or so. And the highest I've ever bowled was like a 237. I always wussed out on turkeys...the third frame would make me very nervous. But when I did manage to miraculously bowl a turkey, that was a very sweet feeling.

I have the sudden urge to bowl again! :)

I havent bowled in over a year because my former teammate and I cant clear our schedules enough to be able to join a mens league. But, last year, when we were still in school, we were on a team and we got 2nd, only because one of our team mates crapped out during tournament time and it hurt us. My highest game ever is: dun dun dun da - 286. Oh yeah! Although my friend holds the record over me, with a 294. Bastard. A girl we bowled with, who is only 17 now, bowled a 300 last year. Shes very good. I miss bowling. I'd go everyonce in awhile if the games weren't $4 a piece.

I'm the awesomest bowler the world has seen. Sure, my highest score is only 130, but has this ever happened to you:

I was with my friend and his band or something's end of year thing, and they all went bowling. My group was on the end and it finally was my turn, mind you i hadn't bowled for months before hand, so i thought id start off with a loosener. I bowled the ball, it went through the air, bounced off the part that seperates one lane from another, into the next lane and got a strike in that lane.



BOO YA try and beat that, it's a 100% true aswell.

I love bowling. It's gotta be one of the best activities for a Saturday night out there. A couple summers ago, our local bowling alley had a deal: pay 10 bucks and bowl for like 3 hours, while a band played. It was awesome, I hope they do it this summer.

We would cash bowls in my van before bowling inside.

Seriously though, if I bowled 115 after not bowling for a very, very long time, I'd be quite happy. It's not that bad.

I've been in Monday Night Mens League for 12 weeks now, and we have 18 weeks left in this season. We were in second, but our league is riddled with Sandbaggers and we are now tied for 3rd. My average has pretty much stayed the same, ranging from 132-138. My high game so far this season has only been a 169. Im more consistant than anyone on the league though. If I dont get my average, for some reason, Im usually only a couple pins off.

For someone who doesn't swing the ball in (just straight at the head-pin, a little off-centre) I'm damn proud of my 229 high. I've scored over 200 heaps of times, and in one game I hit 7 strikes in a row. When I'm not back in my seat after one roll, my brother calls me The Garbologist, because I always collect the spare. I'd prefer him call me The Stud because I always pick-up the spare, but he's not comfortable with that.

That's how I've always bowled, it just worked better for me. Every time I tried to put a spin on the ball it would end up in the gutter. I just said fuck it, I'll leave the spin technique to the pros.

It's great you can get a good score without doing any fancy moves in bowling. :)

I do the same. Straight down the middle of the lane. The bowling alley where I bowl keeps track of how fast you throw the ball. I have the league high: 23mph. I use a 15lb ball. So just imagine, a 15 pound bowling ball going straight for the head pin, it knocks a lot down. My downfall is spares. Sometimes I get em sometimes I dont, it varies everytime I bowl. Thats why my average is so low. Throwing the ball like I do, I get a maximum of 3 pins left standing, but then, if im having an off day, I cant pick em up. Like I mentioned before, if games didnt cost so much I'd go and practice.

Spares...with me it depended on the configuration that was left standing. I would do okay with the more clustered spares, but I knew when just the 7 and 10-pin were left standing I was SCREWED.

Anyone here ever get the 7 - 10? The best I could figure was to try to whack the 7 or the 10 as hard as possible and hope it would fling through the air and hit the other pin. Unfortunately, my strategy never really worked in practice. ;)

I've gotten quite a few 7-10's before. I just aim for one or the other. No sense trying to pick it up, cause it'll never happen. I have picked up an 8-10 and a 6-10 before, and those made me feel good. Of course it was in shadow bowling, and regular bowling hadnt started yet. Dammit.

I find that if I put a good back spin on the ball, pins go everywhere. Instead of bowling the normal way, underhanded, try holding the ball with your wrist relaxed, then flick your wrist like The Floater Pitch in Rookie of the Year. It puts an amazing backspin on the ball and for me, almost always results in a strike or 1 pin left. Never had a split when doing that either.

Well we (my team) did pretty damn good last night. I had a 424 series, and boosted my average a couple pins (I was 9 over for the night) and another person on my team had a 447 series and the 3 other guys all had over 500.

My games were: 122, 140, 162. Best night I've had all season, bout time too.

We won all of our games last night, and are now back in 3rd place!!

My highest score was 134 a week ago. What angers me is most of the time the ball goes down the middle the centre pin. It's either that or the gutter most times. I do end up getting the odd strike and spare at times though

Thank ya Hon, Thank ya. Best part of the other night was my teammates reactions though. I usually start off good and either stay the same or go down a little, and last night the first 2 balls I rolled were strikes and Irv, an old guy on my team just looked at me and went "What the hell got into you?". Then at the end of the night, everyone congratulated me on a good night and they were all like 'better do it again next week too'. So now im under pressure.

Been awhile so I figure I should update. My team is currently in second place in our league. The past 2 weeks, this week and last week, we've been having the Citywide Tournament. Last week was Citywide Team Tournament, which I found out tonight our team came in 3rd out of all the teams in the city, so we get some sort of prize for that. This week was Singles and Doubles Tournament, and while I did shit in the singles tourney, my best friend and I kicked ass in doubles and are currently the Doubles CHAMPIONS of my town. There were still a couple teams bowling when we left, but we were ahead of everyone else and the only way someone could beat us is if they surged after we left. If that happens, we will still end up in the top 3, which means a prize for that as well. We are keeping our fingers crossed for 1st though, because it will be the first first place anything we've gotten since we started bowling together 4 years ago. We've gotten a 2nd place together, but this will be our first. Im very happy right now. :D

I enjoy going bowling every now and again with my friends. Especially at this place by my house, where they cut you a deal for several games and a big pitcher of beer. They also have glow in the dark bowling and good music blasting.

Regarding high scores, I got 120 one time, and I think I can count on one hand how many times I've broken 100 in my life. I am rather well acquainted with the good ole Gutter Ball!

I'd go more often if the atmosphere improved. At present we get shite chart music blaring from shite speakers. We get random bowl-in-the-dark sessions complete with fluro pins and balls (so you can't see the lane arrows/lines). The novelty wears off quickly. We get EVER so shite computer animations when you split/spare/strike, and worst of all, we get ARMIES of little kids who run in front of you when you're about to bowl. It's all geared toward the kids, who actually eat the 3 week old hot dogs, and drink the watered down post-mix cokes whilst their nose-picking parents talk stretch-marks, school fetes, and 4-wheel drives. BAH!

BRING BACK THE OLD SCHOOL BOWLING ALLEYS! You know a-la The Big Lebowski, with heaps of character! Jukeboxes full of variety with no top 40 crappola, retro ball return covers, chrome beer holders, and a fully-licensed bar selling bottles and glasses not cups. That'll bring back the interestingly weird and funky! Bring back the shine-o-ballo machines, and the hottish low-cut blouse-wearing middle-aged women with their tight jeans! Bring back the seventies-style neon signs out the front, and the old table-top video games like Space Invaders, Pac-man, and Moon Patrol. Bring back Frogger, you fuckers!

That'll keep the little blighters away! :)

My birthday party last weekend was me and 12 other kids bowling, then we went to see a movie. But anyway, a lot of kids (me included) hadn't bowled for a long time so it was very fun, and I'm gonna try to organize it so that we do it more regularly. (I got 103, 99, and 107 by the way- some of the best overall scores! :eek: )

Well I figure I should update: Monday night we received our prize money. Our team won $225 for 3rd place ($45 each), my friend Greg and I won $70 for coming in 5th in doubles ($35 each) and I won $8 for coming in 17th in all events. So, I won a grand total of $88, which im very happy with. Im even more pleased to be known as one of the Top 20 bowlers in my city.


The night of regular league was dampered though because of personal health problems (which is why I havent posted much at all this week) and I started off with a 174, then dropped to a 154, then to a 125. You could tell, as well as the rest of the bowlers, that I wasn't feeling great the last 2 games, which is why I dropped so many pins. Our team is currently tied for 4th, with 2 other teams. We have about 9 weeks of bowling left and have plenty of time to come back. I just hope it happens soon because I'm not a person who likes to lose.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, I picked up a Big Four split monday night, which is the second hardest split to pick up, 7/10 being the hardest. A big Four is like a 7/10 but with 2 pins on each side. I get a badge for it, so im happy about that.
