how many of you have been witnessed acts of violence after sports event? rival fans fighting, rioting etc.

i work at a soccer stadium for a pretty team over here in the Uk. one of the scariest things i have ever seen was the fallout from a bout of post-game violence. i was literally stepping over fans who has been knifed by their opposite numbers.

i really fucking hate the violent mentality that goes with a small cross section of sports fan, who take it a little too far. it really can take away from the match that has been played

anyway, thoughts, feelings etc?

Being a Raider fan, I've seen my share of opposition fans getting their asses beat. I don't understand it myself.

One Miami fan was sporting his colors, and talking shit to some Raider fans. Mistake. He was beaten unconscious, and urinated on. How's that for a day at the game?

another one. an opposition fan ran itno a pub post-game shouting "wolves are shit" or something. he came out very fast and was stomped by about 20 guys at once. fucking animals.

i have been to around 70-80 rangers celtic games and they get pretty hairy at times, but because of todays modern stadiums and segragation, the most we have to contend with in the ground is the coin throwing and the odd pie flying at you,but the real violence usually takes place in the city centre pubs and in service stations on the way into glasgow.
but suprisngly we seam to get a lot more trouble when we play hibs or aberdeen as they have a real hardcore base of psycho's who come with the one aim to get as much scrapping in as possable.

I was at the latest Paris vs. Marseille soccer game here in Paris. Paris won 3-0, and there were lots of cops with trucks and such every where to avoid fights (and the big fights were indeed avoided), but me and my friends witnessed a couple of guys beating each other up. Oh, and the cops also got fans out of a bus because the bus was packed with baseball bats and knives and so on. Oh, and some fans in the corner of the stadium also threw objects at the players as they were on the field (bottles, pieces of their seats, even firecrackers).

Assholes. Glad Paris won. :)

My favorite story about sports related violence occured about 5 years ago at a bar near the Illinois-Wisconson border.

Any fan of American Football will know that there is no bigger rivalry than the one between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Fudge Packers.

This is a true story and it was reported in the Chicago Tribune. Apparently a lone Packers fan was foolish enough to wander into a bar full of Bears fans and started talking shit about the Bears. It didnt take much to upset the Bears fans. They proceeded to beat this guy up, then stripped him naked and duct taped him to a tree outside. The naked Packers fan remained affixed to the tree for over 4 hours before someone cut him down.

Now thats Comedy!

GO Bears!

GO Bears! Hillarious stuff! I guess you could expect about as much out of Packer fans, going into a bar full of drunken Bear fan's and running his mouth? What the hell was he thinking?

I once saw a game where one team beat the shit out of the other. Ah, I can remember it now. Watching those Blue jerseys kick the White jersey team's ass.....ah....good times :D

I was so ashamed. Those Rangers, man. They're a tough team to handle ;).

I shouldn't make fun of a team who has a 90 million dollar pay roll and can't make the playoffs. It isn't fair, at all.

btw, the Blue jerseys were the Leafs and the white jerseys were the Sens. But of course we all know that :D

Probably six or seven drunk Raider fans. The guy's girlfriend was watching, too.

Football thugs make me wanna vomit, with their Burberry hats, drainpipe jeans and Reebok classics.

You go to football to watch a football match not for a fight. I go to football at least every fortnight (home games) and in a way it makes me laugh when I'm standing in the pub and you get these fat late thirty something twats talking about the good old days while there son is standing there...virtually endorsing it.

They give real football fans a bad name. The worst I've seen is someone getting bottled outside of WHL right in his eye. I didn't stick around to see what happened I don't want nothing to do with that shit.

About Wednesday. While good British people are fighting in the Gulf the dregs of humanity continue to be scum. Hooligans take you ball and fuck off.

I dont blame you. Especially nowadays you don't know what these fans will do. Did you watch those three programmes on hooliganism last year? They made me feel sick.

i work at the wolves ground, and i fully admit it is because i am a fan of the team :D but, i cant watch the programmes on that kind of thing because i have seen it go on. and to have to see more would sicken me utterly. its bad enough feeling nervous after a game. i dont really wanna get hurt in the aftermath. fair enough, i can defend myself and will, if needs be. but i dont want to resort to that level, and i dont really want to have to feel nervous. and to be honest, it does seem to be just football over here that causes a lot of problems. i have been in cardiff a lot for the rugby matches and there are fans of different teams mingling merrily in the street. even the internationals are more akin to a really huge party, with two shirt colours....

violence and sport sucks. especially when there is risk to myself. its a mentality i just cannot understand.

ps Burberry caps suck arse.

I think the worst I've seen was some minor hockey league action that took place. This was jus some regular season game I went to see two buddys from school play and it became insane. Besides the team getting into it which I knew would happen during the game, afterwards was a whole other story. I'm talking parents beating the shit out of other parents from the opposing team. I think something like 8 cop cars showed up to clear out the riot of what was maybe 150 people in attendance. Heh, and I tried to get away from it all but ended up with a broken nose for telling a guy that it's just a game.

Funnily enough Ibrox was one of the worst grounds for that sorta thing- they've moved away fans into one of the corners now but for years there was no segreation in the back of the broomloan (pie stand/toilets area) oh and if you tried to complain about it you got "you're in glasgow now son" from the police. Very helpful. I agree with you about aberdeen though, they have some real fucking loonies following them

I dunno man I dunno. While I hate major violence and stabbings and the like there is a small piece of me that is kinda happy about the fact that the multi nationals will be able to make fully corporate every other form of entertainment ("we're rock stars that drink pepsi cola" etc. Bill Hicks) but coca cola and company will never be able to get football. Not completely- there are to many mental cunts out there.

and that makes the little tyler durden in me smile.

I've only ever seen it happen at football matches (mixed seating at cricket matches has never been a problem). One of the really pissing off things is coining: one idiot ruining the game for a complete stranger. When the toon played Arsenal at home last season our fans and their's were annoying each other (as you do); so a few morons started to coin our stand. One coin hit a lad in front of me and cut his head open; he couldn't have been more than 6 :(

Thugs really piss me off

Fans getting violent seems silly to me. Anyone that gets that riled up over watching a game has some sort of rage problem. Fighting amongst players is more understandable (no more justifiable (sp?)), but fans fighting...so dumb.

Yesterday I was at QPR Vs Brentford, which is a local derby.

I was in the away end (QPR) and they scored the winner in the last minute, R's have a good chance of promotion if they stay where they are...however some fans ran onto the pitch for a ruck, kicking stewards in the head and stuff...while some of the fans were cheering. It made me sick. One steward was badly hurt, lying motionless on the floor didnt know how seriously hurt he was (turned out he got up and walked off) but some fans were shouting "Going home in a body bag"

Ruined the moment for me. The QPR players couldnt come over and celebrate with the real fans, because of a mindless minority.

I went to watch the rugby a few weeks ago and no fans were fighting, they were drinking together all day having fun a little bit of banter but no sign of trouble.

Football sickens me sometimes.

there is very rarely any trouble with rugby in my experience. if you go to cardiff before a huge international you will see the fans minging happily in the pubs and streets. rugby just doesnt seem to provoke the same extreme responses as football.

The only violence I ever witnessed came at the hands of Indiana Hig School Basketball. You have to understand that in Indiana, high school boys basketball is almost religion during the winter. Well anyways, my school was playing a bigger school from the next county. We were winning, until it turned into the biggest screw job of the century. The second half started and all of a sudden is was us against the other team and the refs. The refs started calling 3 seconds on guys that were standing clear out in 3 point range, their 10 second count for getting the ball past the half court line actually took about 5 seconds, just a ton of bullshit calls that were so obviously not true that even people sitting in the visiting section were laughing at us for how ridiculous they were. The calls become even worse once the 4th quarter started, my school started losing, and then crowd turned rabid. Pop bottles were thrown, pop cans were thrown, basically anything throwable was thrown on the court. One ref got hit in the back of the head with a bottle. They stopped the game to clean up the court, and the refs gave the crowd a technical foul, which prompted us to boo and cuss and throw more stuff. Eventually the game ended, with the other team winning by more than 20 points, which is shit because we were up 15 at one time.
But it didnt end there. The crowd was near riot. The refs had to be escorted to the locker rooms by security, then later to their cars. A couple players from the other team got jumped by a couple students as they exited the school to get on the bus. Cars were vandalized and a lot of parents were beaten and verbally abused in the parking lot by parents and students from our school. We all made damn sure that the other team and the refs knew they didnt deserve to win that game. Needless to say, the 2 schools havent played each other since because of what happened.

yeah got to agree there on the outside in the seated area everything looks great with the segragation, but it was always bedlam at half time when the supporters where left to roam around in the pie stand/toilet area always violence when hibs/aberdeen and even aidrie came to visit.
