Has anyone ever gotten a DVD screener from ebay? I was just searching around over there and I saw a lot of DVD screeners for sale... For anyone who has actually boughten one, how is the picture? Was ebay reliable? I'm really considering buying some screeners, any help would be appreciated....

The screeners, I would imagine, are bootleg-type quality. I have never bought one on ebay, but I have downloaded them before (the same source I'm sure the sellers used), and the quality was bootleg quality. It's tolerable, but it's not anything special.

Well that sucks... In the guy's description it said excellent quality picture, now I'm not sure if I can believe him.... Maybe I'll just have to wait until the movie just comes out on video....

Well, if it's an actual "screener", it will be a regular DVD. Screeners are sent out for all movies nominated for Oscars, so they would be very good quality. I doubt it's genuine, though.

I was given a screener of The Man Who Wasn't There, and, except for a disclaimer that flashes on the screen every several minutes, the picture is pristine.

I used to have a screener of Scream 3, and after several warnings at the beginning, and a flashing bar every half hour, it was fantastic pic quality.

I have a screener of Chicago. The picture is perfect, and other than an occasional flashing "Property Of Miramax For Screening Purposes Only" comes up, its great.

A close friend's parents own a video store, and they get screeners weekly for movies that are just finishing their theatrical run, but haven't made it to the store shelves yet. They mostly get DVD's now, and the only annoying thing is that it has the warning message not to sell/rent it on the bottom of the screen for a few seconds.

I would get these screeners if I didn't have my monye put towards everything else.

I'd rather wait six months and get a copy that doesn't flash stuff at you.

I think I'm actually going to buy one for LotR:TTT.... I could just wait another 5 months, but I'm impatient.... And I won't mind the "For your consideration...." popping up at the bottom every now and then....

...but if I did own the TTT screener, I would say that, besides being a great film (especially on multiple viewings) he quality is amazing. But again, I dont have it, so I woulnt know for sure.

i've actually downloaded the lotr two towers screener...it's excellent quality...

vicvega, the ones u've downloaded are actually not screener copies...they're ones where the people go into the theatre and actually just record the movie while it's going. I have a bunch of those as well.

But there are dvd screener copies that are much bigger in size, and that are ripped from the dvd screeners that are given out for oscar consideration (u can get these for movies like harry potter as well, since they are trying to get considered for special effects)...i have a good 20 on my computer from the oscars - about schmidt, punch-drunk love, the pianist, the hours, chicago, two towers, road to perdition, gangs of new york...i got all of these from oscar dvd screener rips.

But say for a movie like Maid in Manhattan, it is extremely hard and unlikely to get a dvd screener for those, because they know they won't be considered for any oscars. Those movies u just have to wait till they come out on dvd. (and then u can still download them cuz people just rip them and put them up - i have several of these for movies like the green mile, requiem for a dream, chasing amy, truman show, goodfellas, etc)

I HAVE the dvd screen for The Two Towers. It is perfect quality, widescreen, full credits and comes up with "For Your Consideration" every 20 mins.

For those of you who have the TTT screener, does the "For Your Consideration" appear in the widescreen bar or on top of the movie?

Horrorwhore: They come on top of the movie near the bottom of the picture (not the very bottom), and they only appear for a short period of time. They are not very intrusive, and for the quality of picture, it is worth it.

Hope that helps

If u'r planning on downloading instead of getting a dvd, get it from iMesh...i find it works the best, better than Kazaa, or the others.

The 1st part should be 700 mb, and the 2nd part should be 693 (so that u don't get some other movie by mistake).

Thank you, that does help... And I don't plan on downloading it (my computer is a piece of shit), I bought one from eBay the other day...

I've downloaded CHICAGO, BULLETPROOF MONK, AGENT CODY BANKS, DREAMCATCHER, DAREDEVIL and VIEW FROM THE TOP off the Internet, and I believe that CHICAGO, DREAMCATCHER, AGENT CODY BANKS and BULLETPROOF MONK are screener copies, for they are great quality. The other two were so-so quality.

BTW, for anyone who wants to know, we transferred the LOTR: Two Towers screener as well as the Blade 2 screener onto my dad's laptop, and connected it to our 53" high definition tv, and watched it there. I swear, the picture is almost as good (or as good) as dvd quality...it's definitely way way superior to vhs!!! (which surprised me, but a good surprise!)

Well I got my Two Towers screener in the mail the other day and the picture is good. It's not the best picture ever, but it definitely isn't anywhere near the worst. I didn't mind the "For Your Consideration" popping up every 10 minutes, it wasn't that bothersome. The only thing I thought was wierd was that they cut out a little part of the warg scene when Legolas gets on the horse, it wasn't on my DVD...
