I'd pick Kobe Bryant. Sure the Lakers are only 6th or 7th in the West (depends on the day), but they're getting hotter and hotter, and Kobe's the main reason they are. The man's averaging around 30 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists a game -- and that's pretty mightily impressive. AND he's also one of the most spectacular players in the league, and one that can take the ball to the hole each and every time at crunch time.

Runner-ups: Tracy McGrady (who's doing a great season, as great as Kobe's), Kevin Garnett (great season too, could get the title also), Tim Duncan (playing solidly as always, but he got it last year), Jason Kidd (delivering a fantastic season, but not as fantastic as last season's, when he should have won MVP), Michael Jordan (for his last season, but let's face it -- he just doesn't have the stats to fairly deserve it), Allen Iverson (but he won't -- he uses up too many shot opportunities).

Its a close race this year.

I would pick KG or Mcgrady over Kobe. Both KG and Mcgrady have to carry their teams without any good supporting players. Kobe meanwhile is on the same team as the most dominant player in the league. It makes his job a little easier.

One standard to look at is to see which team would be hurt the most by losing their star. I think Shaq and the Lakers would be in much better shape than either the Magic or T-Wolves would be without their #1 guy.

I also think that MJ deserves some sort of an award for single-handidly keeping a shitty and uninspired Wizards team in the playoff race.

I think this was T- Mac's year. He should get it.

McGrady should have won it last year, and KG will win this year.

I'd pick Dirk Nowitski, for leading the Mavericks to their best NBA record so far.

Kobe.

But if it were a fair vote, Shaq would get it every year.

You know he has carried Orlando all season...see how shit we are when he's injured.

Keven Garnett has been awesome though...its a toughie but I'm gonna be bias and say T-Mac.

I would say it is a two man race between T-Mac and KG because those two have done the most with the least amount around them Kobe has Shaq,Tim Duncan has alot of talent around him,he dosen't have carry the Spurs the way T-Mac does the Magic and KG does the Timberwolves, and Allen Iverson has had a solid year but shoots it too much. So between T-Mac and KG I would have to pick Kevin Garnnett as the MVP because he dose the most with the least in the West which is by far a better conference.

I used to intensely dislike Kobe Bryant.I hated all the comparisons between him and MJ,I thought they were ridiculous.Thought Kobe was overrated.I used to have a theory they said he had as much talent as MJ becuase the NBA needed a new hero to replace MJ,so they hyped Kobe.
But after this year,Kobe has my respect, and I gotta give him credit. He has had an awesome year, and he deserves MVP.Like someone else said,he is averaging 7 assists and 7 rebounds, plus 30 points.Jordan would be proud to have a year like that.
I think Mc Grady is almost as good, maybe even on the same level as Kobe. But Kobe will get it probably because of the string of 40 point games, and he was very valuable those last games Shaq was hurt.I think the Lakers have a better record now than Orlando,so that works in his favor.

But I am rooting for Kevin Garnett to get it,which I really doubt he will .He does everything. One of my favorite,if not THE favorite, players in the NBA.
