The plot: "Eddie Griffin, standup comic and star of Undercover Brother & Double Take, combines footage of his comedy routines with documentary-style clips from his family reunion in Kansas City where he catches up with two uncles, one a porn director and another an ex-pimp."
Sounds great! Fans of those side-splitting comedy classics have another cinematic masterpiece to treasure for years.
What's up with the tagline? "The movie they don't want you to see is coming to a theater near you." Who is "they"? Eddie's family? Bob and Harvey Weinstein? Critics? Probably all of them, since the only real user comment for it on IMDb trashes the movie. (The other "user," who calls the movie "the concert film event of the year," looks suspiciously like a studio P.R. drone.)
DisFunKtional Family opens April 4 in limited release.
I think it looks stupid, but that's just because I'm not a fan of these stand-up concert comedies. I definitely have no plans on seeing it in theaters or on video. However, if the beautiful and funny Anna Faris (Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, The Hot Chick, May) did one, I'd definitely see it. I'd see anything she does. Hell, she could be in a LOTR movie and I'd probably see it in theaters. I'd even *gulp* see a Star Wars movie if she was in it.

Haha, what can I say!? I'm addicted to these boards, I just can't stay away. Hell, I spend more time on here talking about movies than I do actually watching them. I used to have much more time to watch movies before I came here. Now, when I'm not busy, I'm here.

Yeah, here's his comment in case anyone wants to see it. Funny stuff.
Eddie Griffin's masterpiece standup comendy routine has been perfected! This inside look at his growing up in Kansas City is amazing! His "perverted" uncle who tapes the women he has sex with to his other uncle crack smoking talk is priceless. Eddie has come a long way from his early days of comedy and his days on "Malcolm & Eddie". When you watch this you realize that as a storyteller, he's as good if not better than the Grandfather of Comedy concert films, Richard Pryor. Eddie is out of that same mold. This film will surprise a lot of people with it's honesty and openess. Eddie is so much more than the "Undercover Brother", he's a worthwhile superstar!! He's growing up, learning the meaning of life and sharing it with us to laugh at and enjoy. I saw a rough screening several months ago at a small theatre in the LA area without the soundtrack. I have heard that rapper/trouble again'd Sug Knight did the soundtrack! This should be the concert film event of the year, don't miss it! If there was a higher rating than a "10", I would say it's a 12 !!!!

WOW! That review has made me go from not wanting to see it at all to dying to see it. I had no idea it would be such a great film. I definitely can't miss it now. I think I'll go tomorrow night...

That review is hilarious! It's so obviously a fake... I can't believe anyone would fall for that...

Did anyone read Ebert's review of the movie? It plays out like an article about the usage of the "n" word in movies, and Ebert even admits it himself; he devotes about one whole paragraph to talking about the movie itself...

Yeah, but Ebert's got a point: What can he say about a concert film without giving away all the jokes?
Read his reviews for the three Naked Gun movies; he basically fills half of them discussing how to fill half of them.

Ever since The Original Kings of Comedy, these comedy concert films seem to be experiencing a revival. I'm looking forward to this, but then again, I am a fan of Griffin's brand of humor.

I'm getting really tired of these "Stand Up Comedy/Concert" movies. Rather then spend money on promoting this for a big theatrical release, they should put it on HBO.

Comedy concert films have made for great, even classic, cinema. Have we forgotten Bill Cosby Myself, Richard Pryor on the Sunset Strip and Eddie Murphy's Raw and Delirious???
Hell, I'm even looking forward to this Blue Collar Comedy Tour Movie starring Jeff Foxworthy.

Amen brother!
Speaking of teh Blue Collar Comedy Tour, I saw a piece of Jeff Foxworthy's redneck skit talking about how if your functioning TV is on top of your non-functioning Tv then you might be a redneck.
D.L. Hughley mentioned the same thing on his comedy special, and that got me to realize that the dividing line between ghetto and redneck is a very blurred line indeed.
