You should read the box-office reciepts again. Minority Report is one of the most successful movies of the last five years. Maybe what you mean is, why didn't it to well comparatively speaking? It's Tom Cruise's most successful movie in the UK and one of Spielberg's highest grossers.

Who said it didnt do well?

$132 Million domestic and $210 Overseas = $342Mil, Worldwide....it was a success....modest, but it turned a tidy profit.

MR was a massive hit. 342 million worldwide is exceptional.

It was boring and predictable. Tom Cruise hasnt made a good movie since Top Gun and Speilberg since Saving Private Ryan (though I havent seen Catch Me If You Can yet).

Combine the biggest joke of an actor with a burned out director, add in a bad cliche script and you get Minority Report.

$342 million is MILD for a $100 million dollar (probably $150 million all told, but still)?

RE: MR cost 102 million. So the breaking point was around 300 million. It made a healthy 42 million profit and more than that on the VHS, DVD and TV market. In the end the film was a big success.

I thought Minority Report was fricking amazing man! Tom Cruise at his best! Suspensful & pretty cool sci-fi efects. The run of MR did very well here in SF and came back for a second run!

The question really is why MR didn't do BETTER than it did, whether it was profitable or not.

The story was more along the lines of Gattaca sci-fi rather than Star Wars sci-fi and less accessible to a mainstream audience. It is another in a series of Spielberg's admitted "experimental" phase, which started with AI and has continued through Catch Me If You Can.

Considering it came out in the summer, that's when the young'ons come out to see movies. Since not all of them understood it or could see the greatness in it, that lead to less recommendations from teens. It's also not as accessible as a Star Wars movie is. But hey, it made a healthy profit

"Minority Report" did well, but it could've done way better. This film wasn't what most audiences were looking for last summer, it just didn't have that wide appeal. A film such as "Minority Report" requires a certain taste to watch or enjoy.

Awesome film, btw....

MINORITY REPORT was the best flick of 2002 in my opinion. It did well at the box-office, but like Strider said, it probably wasn't the blockbuster popcorn entertainment people expected for the summer, which limited its profits.

I found this movie very mediocre. It was bland and predictable, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I am disappointed that this was received better than his masterpiece A.I. Oh well, in time...in time...

I see where he's coming from. It's kind of sad when My Big Fat Greek Wedding made more money in the states then Minority Report.

While I didn't think my MBFGW (8/10) or MR (8/10) were GREAT, I thought MBFGW was a better movie, by a slight margin. The people apparently agree with that, since MBFGW did better almost entirely by word of mouth, and Minority Report had tens of millions spent on ad campaigns and did worse.

Didn't Minority Report flop in the US? After all, it cost $102mil to make, $40mil to market, and it only made $132mil, $10mil short of breaking even.

Taking worldwide into account, it did pretty damn well.

Definitely predictable and i agree, A.I. (8/10) was superior. But Catch Me If You Can (10/10) is better than both ;)

Tho it seems most people think it the other way around...
