The only major Ingmar Bergman film I've seen is Fanny and Alexander which I loved (****). I've seen The Silence and From the Lies of the Marionettes which were both very interesting films.
I'm desperate to see Wild Strawberries, The Seventh Seal and Cries and Whispers.

The sex story in Persona beats pretty much all porno, if you ask me...
Fanny and Alexander is Bergmans masterpiece.
He also made the greatest warfilm ever, Shame.

Perhaps the most erotic scene in cinema history and it's achieved simply through monologue, another reason Bergman is a master.

The most erotic, my immediate reaction when watching that for the first time.
One of my most favorite of directors; he caters to my knack for depression.

His death is making me regret selling a good chunk of his films. One of my very favorites as a fledging filmgoer, and integral to getting me into the art movie circuit. Thank you Ingmar, and I look forward to revisiting your movies. It's been awhile.
The level attention he's getting...it's great. I know a two-minute blurb or a mention on the MSNBC sidescroller doesn't amount to much, and a football coach is receiving loads more attention, but the guy made slow, specialty art melodramas and it's endearing to see, well, IMDB bump its' headlines down several columns to devote a giant space to him. Not to mention papers like The Independent and the NY Times providing the occasion with frontpage space.
