Air Jordan, Karl "The Mailman" Malone, The Great One, Slammin' Sammy, Dr.J, The Refrigerator Perry, etc.
There are many nickname's in all the different sports (NHL,MLB,NFL, NBA, European football, etc.), so my question is...
What's your fave?
I'm still undecided, I'll have to return to answer this one...
I like the one's Chris "Boomer" Berman gives players.
I always liked Sammy "say it ain't" Sosa.

The Yankees' starting rotation last season was Rocket, Boomer, Moose, El Duque and Pipes. I thought that was pretty cool.

There's a lot of fun ones (especially in basketball and baseball), but Air Jordan is a classic.
It'd tie as my favorite with another classic: Earvin "Magic" Johnson. I mean, loads of people don't even know the man's first name is Earvin -- he's just Magic.

Good ones, bob.
I just remembered a couple more...
Eddie "the Eagle" Belfour. Or, "crazy" Eddie, if you prefer. ;)
Dominik "the Dominator" Hasek. (Didn't like Hasek too much, but I thought his nickname was cool.)

James "Buddha" Edwards-baseketball player a few years ago. Was known to hit the bong a few times, thus the name.
"The Little Ball of Hate" Pat Verbeek-talk about a classic nickname...i think there is someone else with that name
Air Jordan is a classic and perhaps the most fitting nickname of them all
How could I forget the William " the Refridgerator" Perry

If you've got a refridgerator you need ex-Piston Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson.:)
Olympic skier Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards.
He's worth mentioning again, XFL standout "He Hate Me" (no real name needed.)
Former Wisconsin qb Jack Thompson "The Throwin Samoan".
Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark "The Bird" Fydrich.

Paul "Bear" Bryant.
He wrestled a bear to get the nickname. You could say William Perry wrestled a refrigerator to get his, but then, it obviously didn't give up much of a fight.
Other favorites are...
Walter "Sweetness" Payton
Gale "The Kansas Comet" Sayers
Charles "The Round Mound of Rebound" Barkley
Art "Fatso" Donovan
"Slingin'" Sammy Baugh

The most fitting nickname has to be John "The Beast" Mugabi.
I saw him fight at the USF Sundome back in the late 1980s. He had won 33 bouts and lost 3... all of them by knockout.
Easiest job ever... judge at a fight "The Beast" was in.
Lance "Bambi" Alworth
"Broadway" Joe Namath
Ken "Snake" Stabler
Robin "Speedbag" Ventura (not one he's proud of, but then he did charge Nolan Ryan)
Greg "The Professor" Maddux
Randy "Manster" White
Cornelius "Biscuit" Bennett
Greg "The Shark" Norman
Jack "The Golden Bear" Nicklaus
"Slammin'" Sam Snead
