Cooper was terrific as Laroche, but my favorite performance of his was as Col. Fitts in AMERICAN BEAUTY. A tough role he handled like a champ.

Sadly, the only movies I've seen him in are American Beauty and Adaptation. From the two, Adaptation was his best. A well-deserved Oscar win

Chris Cooper was amazing in "Adaptation" and "American Beauty"
but i'll go with "Adaptation".

I'm gonna have to agree with the majority and say his best performance was as John Laroche in Adaptation. Chris Cooper is such a great actor. I can't wait for Seabiscuit. Jeff Bridges and William H. Macy are in it too, and I'm also big fans of theirs.

Always liked his role in the first two Bourne movies (though his is more like a cameo in the 2nd one) . . . that and in The Patriot and A Time to Kill.

I've never seen him in anything that he didn't simply own. He's like Daniel Day-Lewis in that he seems to vanish into the character.
It's hard to not choose his turn as Robert Hanssen in Breach as his best, but I'll have to say John LaRoache in Adaptation.

Not a fan, so these are the only three roles worth mentioning (and basically the only three films I remember him in!). Haven't seen BREACH yet and don't plan to anytime soon. Ryan Phillippe is just as bland.
