View Full Version : Pacino or DeNiro?
This will be interesting....
Who do you think is a better actor: Al Pacino or Robert DeNiro?
I think DeNiro has had more quality roles, and his performance in Taxi Driver was classic.
BUT.....
Pacino delivered my all-time favorite performance in "Dog Day Afternoon", and he's had some other notable roles (God-something), so I vote for Al.

Pacino is a good actor, but DeNiro is more versatile and more talented. He can play almost any role well. His performance in New York, New York is one of the best ever. DeNiro easily gets my vote!

This is a tough one....but I have to say DeNiro. They are both outstanding actors but DeNiro has played some roles so well it is scary. Taxi Driver and Cape Fear come to mind....

You dirty bastard! How could you do this to me!!??

Though its extremely hard to choose between these two, I'm gonna have to say DeNiro. Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Raging Bull....yeah, its gotta be DeNiro.

Pacino for me...
he not only created one of the best characters in movie history (Michael Corleone), but he has turned in great performances in many, many, many other movies.
Including: Scent of a Woman, Devil's Advocate, Glengarry Glen Ross, Dog Day Afternoon, Insomnia...etc. etc. etc.

I didn't get an email from you, Annie Hall. Don't break my heart, love. ;)
Anyways, I vote for Al Pacino. Al does everything so perfectly and plays his characters with style. Extremely diverse and always amazes me. The best actor working today. De Niro is the second best along with Dustin Hoffman.

Fuck Bob, how could you make me choose...:)
But Al for me. Yes, Mr De Niro has gave great performances in the past RAGING BULL, TAXI DRIVER, CAPE FEAR, HEAT etc. But his films have left to be desired recently...some bad choices whereas Mr Pacino chooses wisely.
Al Pacino was great in GODFATHER TRILOGY, SERPICO, HEAT, INSOMNIA, THE INSIDER, CARLITO'S WAY and SCARFACE.
They are my top two actors so it was hard to choose.

PACINO!!!

Definitely Robert De Niro. Some of the very best male performances ever come from him (Taxi Driver, Godfather Pt. 2, Raging Bull especially). And while I think Pacino created the great character ever (Michael Corleone), on the whole De Niro's been better, and more diverse. All too often, Pacino's been reduced to thinking screaming equals acting.

I'm with Nate. Robby turned in the greatest male performance ever in Raging Bull, so that scores big time with me.

Pacino. no question.
So far it's 14-9 for DeNiro. It seems like the general consensus so far is: _______ is an awesome actor, one of the best ever, but I've gotta go with _______ because of his performance in _______. Good to know it's not a blowout or anything.

Bobby D is the best...sadly both have had lapses in memory on how to be in a good movie...maybe that will change for De Niro this year in Godsend and Chaos...

I have to go with Robert DeNiro although Al Pacino is one of my favorite actors, Robert DeNiro has been in alot of my favorite movies, Taxi Driver,Raging Bull,Mean Streets,The Godfather Part II,Heat, ete, etc, etc the list goes on and on and on!

De Niro, although not on top form of late, has produced consistently more interesting and varied performances than pacino
thinking seriously about it...i realised that pacino has not delivered a truly excellent performance since the godfather part 2....one of blistering excellence i might add.......since then , as im sure many of you have noticed....he has become an often ridiculous charicature....hoo-haaing his way through movies...ironically winning an oscar for his worst movie "scent of a woman, an unashamadly simpering movie....
talking quietly and then SHOUTING loudly is not acting.....no matter how good that actor once was....
i would be the first to acknowledge that deniro has also recently cashed in on his hard man image.....sending himself up n movies such as analyse this......but king of comedy....meet the parents....and taxi driver indicate de niros superior range

Toughy. Pacino has the first two Godfathers and Dog Day Afternoon on my top 25, but DeNiro has Raging Bull and Goodfellas. I had to go with Pacino though.

Al Pacino.
Bobby has done plenty of brilliant work in the past, but has been slipping BADLY in the last 5 years. Pacino's record is still farily consistent.

Overall, it would be tight, with Pacino just prevailing. Of late, Pacino wipes the floor with De Niro's sad upside-down frowning, tedious self parody.
Pacino has managed to combine his hefty acting chops with a great schtick that makes people grin and slap their thighs in a way that only Christopher Walken can rival.

My favourite actor of all time...
AL PACINO
Bobby De Niro is my second favourite though. Can't leave him out!

Well, this is indeed tough. Both man have played defining roles in modern day American cinema history. Of late tho', DeNiro especially, has been having some bad misses e.g Showtime, Analyse That. I also wonder what was he doing in "Rocky & Bullwinkle". Pacino, has set very high standards thru Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico & Scarface, which I feel even he has trouble trying to live up to these days. I don't think he can find scripts that come close the above movies, so he takes on what he feels is best, & tries to live up to the image which he has made legend in his early days. I think both guys are missing the kind of scripts that makes great actors & movies. They probably still have it in them, a lot more than the aussie beefcake Mr. Crowe.
For me its Pacino, even if its a sentimental reason.
A note of appreciation also for Dustin Hoffman & Paul Newman. How could any of us have failed to mention anything about Paul ?
De Niro.
I seem incapable of getting around the shouty Pacino these days.

Holy hell, ask me a hard one why dont ya.
There really is nothing between them, but i'd probably go for Al simply cos i dont like some of the comedy roles that DeNiro has done lately (was he really in rocky and bullwinkle???)

Robert DeNiro is my favourite actor and is a little better than Al Pacino, but i'm not taking anything away from Pacino. He is a great actor, it's just that DeNiro is a little bit better.

Possible Spoilers from here on...
I voted for Robert De Niro, mainly for one reason.
Take Devil's Advocate. Al Pacino plays Satan. And does it, in the end, too OTT.
Now take Angel Heart(which is superior to Advocate in every way). De Niro is Satan. And does it very subtlely(sp?). One of the greatest Satan's seen on the movie screen.

I like 'em both; they're two of my favorite actors of all time, but I think Pacino edges De Niro out by a bit.

Im gonna have to say Robert DeNiro.
Altough Pacino is making better movies today than him (Insomnia, The Insider, The Recruit all better than Analysie This or That and Rocky and Bullwinkle), DeNiro made characters like Travis Bickle, Jake LaMotta, Noodles etc. all classic in the classic movies.

Pacino.
De Niro was better in the 70's/80's but he's totally descended into self parody of late.
I'm not sure he could act again even if he tried.

After I thought about it, this race wasn't as close as I expected. I say Al fucking Pacino! Why? For creating the biggest badass in the history of cinema, thats why. Tony Montana!!! Plus DeNiro's legacy is being tainted to me with roles like Analyze That and Showtime!.
Pacino
1. Scarface
2. Carlito's Way
3. The Godfather Legacy
DeNiro
1. Raging Bull
2. Taxi Driver
3. Casino

DeNiro; he's more diverse (I can't imagine Pacino in something like Meet The Parents)... and in some films where they're head-to-head like Heat (or Godfather 2), he pulls off a subtler (and better) performance.
