This is funny Chrissy, I thought about this very same topic last night! :D
Unfortunately I sustained no scars from sports that I wear with pride, but...I used to get rips on my hands from the bars when I was a gymnast. You just get callouses on your hands and they rip off easily while you're on the bars, and then you do some bleeding. Other than that I have bad knees and shin splints from running. I still run though...I'm ADDICTED! :)

Well, I've had loads of strains and stuff, but apart from that...I broke two fingers playing basketball, and blew the bone on top of my right eye off during a game too. I was going for an easy lay up when a defense player from the other team just knocked my head off on a flagrant foul. I was out cold for about twenty to twenty five seconds, blood everywhere, a few bone fragments, needed a couple of stitches and still have a little scar, but nothing bad.
Oh, and I had a bad fracture in my ankle too, but that was ice-skating. It was the first time I ever skated and I wanted to impress a chick flick, and I screwed up and broke my ankle in two different places, sending a small piece of bone to wander around inside my leg. I have to wear an ankle strap every time I play basketball ever since that day, and it still hurts when I push it too hard.
Pretty cool, huh? ;)

hmmmm a good one soccer one about my brother. he was playing away merrily and this guy came in with a high tackle. so high that he kicked my brother square in the mouth, splitting his lip open pretty badly....blood all over the place. naturally, my brother spent a few hours getting stitched up, but that was nasty and we all know how much a studded boot to the face hurts...

My dad has an impressive injury from soccer...he's got a hole in his skull. Someone kicked him in the back of the head where the head meets the neck, it almost killed him. Eh, it just comes with playing soccer, yes? :D

What comes with soccer is writhing around on the ground like you're gonna die when you pull a nail.

Back in high school, we were playing broomball (think hockey, but minus the fun) in the dead of winter and some guy took a swipe at the ball, missed and his frozen broomstick flew across the playing area and smacked me in the mouth, I wasn't paying attention at all, it was a fluke.
I now have one fake tooth.

I was playing basketball in the gym one day during lunch at school and due to us being allowed to play in the varsity gym, we had to do it in socks or bare foot, that way we wouldn't scuff up the floor. Long story short, I went up for a rebound, came down hard on my bare feet, landed sideways on my right foot, and ended up breaking a bone in my foot. Just grab the end of your pinky toe and go down into your foot, when you get about half way between your toe and your ankle, thats where the bone broke. I couldnt walk on it for the rest of the day and when school got out I had x-rays taken and sure enough it was broken. Its never healed either, because of where it broke there was nothing I could do to fix it. So every once in awhile I get this intense pain in my foot and half to get off my feet for awhile because of the bones. Other than that I've never had anything but scratches and bruises.

Ouch!
My injury is not as bad, but its kinda funnny...
I broke my collar bone and got frost bitten toes all from the same play in football.
We were playing tackle football on a frozen pond (which was not as frozen as we thought). While running with the ball, I got tackled very hard onto the ice. The impact broke my collar bone, it also broke the ice beneath me. I fell into the water and had a hell of a time getting out because of the shoulder problem. By the time I got out, I had some pretty nasty frost bite on the tips of my toes. Still bothers me to this day.
That sucked.

Broke a leg playing hockey. Some strains too. You know, usual stuff.
You gotta be tough to play hockey :D
Broke my nose three times. I'm probably the least pretty of all hockey players (except maybe Mike Ricci).:D

well, last season of cricket (yes, i was injured in cricket) i screwed up my back for over half the season.
oh yeah, and once when i was playing australian football, this guy stepped on my foot so when he had the ball i charged him with my elbow and he went down, and had to be helped off the field. Nobody steps on my feet and gets away with it.:D

When I used to play sports I never had any injuries that were serious but I had some stuff happen that hurt pretty bad. For instnace...
When I played baseball, I was catcher and one time there was a runner on third and there was a bunt and I came up to guard the plate and wait for the ball, well my mistake was taking off my helmet, because they runner was about 50 lbs heavier than me and he knocked me over and stepped on my face with his spikes. That hurt pretty bad.
When I played basketball I was running backwards and then turned around to run forwards but was still looking backwards and ran straight into a defender and was knocked out from hitting the floor. That hurt a lot afterwards.
Another time when I was playing baseball I was in the on deck circle and the batter up to bat hit a foul and nailed me right on the thigh. That hurt too.
I've actually had numerous injuries that I can think from baseball including being hit with a bat and getting hit in the balls with no cup on.
Sports can hurt.

Well this doesn't count as a sports injury, but i was at the school atheletics carnival thing, and i kind of was wrestling, and thats a sport.
My and my friend were mucking around and i tackled him to the ground, i moved sideways and his hip bone went in my eye. That boney part just on the outside of my eye was bruised for ages.

Oh, and one of my favorite jokes is also about sporting injuries (it comes from the SPIN CITY show):
You (gravely): "I pulled my groin today."
Other person: "Really?"
You (cracking into a smile): "Yeah. Felt so good I pulled it again."
I just love it. :p

I've never been injured while playing sports, unless you count getting the air knocked out of you several times "injuries".
As for non-sporting injuries, I've had plenty. I got a deep cut in one of my toes after a stepped on a broken beer bottle, and I came close to fracturing my wrist in Grade 4 after I fell off a play structure.

I sprained my thumb when I caught a fucking nurf football the wrong way. A...nurf...football. lol
I haven't broke anything in my life. It's pretty surprising since I'm so aggressive. Although a couple of times I would have bleeding knuckles from punching some girl's face in during basketball when the ref wasn't looking. "I swear, I was just going for the rebound". :D

i know a friend of mine dislocated his shoulder once. but i can not remember whether we were playing rugby or football? damn, but he was not in a good way afterwards. oh, and i saw someone really screw up their knee after a really badly timed sliding tackle. he was alright, but his knee was sort of swollen for days. he forgave me for the bad tackle...i felt really guilty. maybe we should just make this an "any fun sporting injuries from your personal experience" thread.
damn but we are a clumsy lot lol ;)
oh and call me an english idiot here, but what the smeg is a Nurf football?

It's hard to explain it's like a soft foam ball of sorts.
Is smeg slang for fuck or hell?

i guess we could draw some kind of a link to Diving so we can include that particular feat....
tell me, have u ever considered working with the Jackass crew at all?:D:D
If you're counting Jackass-type sport related stunts, here's one for ya:
My friends were snowskating, and had set up a jump and a rail to use. Now, I've never been good at snowskating or skateboarding or snowboarding, so I figure I'll go off the thing on a sled. I go way up to the top of a hill, sled all the way down, hit the jump, and go down the rail. Halfway down the rail, I lose the sled, and ride four or so feet on my tailbone. Now, if that didn't hurt enough, I decided to do it AGAIN, this time without the jump, so I couldn't get hurt. I go up even higher, get on the sled, go down, hit the jump sideways, and crash my side full on into a tree. I had bruised ribs, and I'm lucky that's all.
I don't like sledding anymore.:(

Now, I really really really hate Gym/PE but once in 2nd year (I think) we were playing "softball" which was laughable since the ball we were using was as hard as a fucking brick. Anyways, I am useless at ALL sports so I just stood at the very back of the field/area/place when we were "fielding" and pretended to care. When one of the decent players on the opposing team came up to bat, I noticed and moved back even further and then went into a daydream. The next thing I know, a "softball" is heading straight for me but I'm slow and the ball was moving faster than me and it hit me on the nose. Suprisingly there was no bruising or bleeding but it hurt like hell but since the Gym teacher didn't like me, he told me to pay attention next time and went over to the decent player who had "hurt his foot" when he ran....
I was pissed off.

Ahhh Gym class,
I used to love gym class. My favorite class of the day.
One time we were playing Lacrosse. The gym teacher was absent for the day, so we played unsupervised. Big mistake. The game quickly escalated to violence.
While I was wrapping around the goal in an attempt to score, one of the defenders swung his stick baseball style so hard at my legs, that the basket broke on contact. It cut up my leg pretty good. I still have a nice scar to remember it by.

football: 2 concussions, broken foot, few bad sprained ankles, dozens of broken fingers, nasty broken toe (the top of the toe now points at a 45 degree angle inward)
and if we are considering bmx biking and skateboarding sports then...a million gashes in my legs. my legs are so scarred up.
*edit* forget when I got one of my baby teeth knocked out when someone kicked me in the mouth during a soccer game when i was little

Another injury report, this time in middle school. I jumped up to block a shot in basketball, but the ball ended up falling and taking my middle finger back with it. Hurt like hell and was swollen for a good week or two.

I had a shite day today in gym.
Which doesn't happen often since, as most of you know, I love sports!
Anyway.
I got the wind knocked out of me today. We were playing indoor soccer. And I was on my knees, trying to get the play, which was behind the net. Then it got kicked out..... to the other team. The guy on the other team (a good friend of mine) kicked the ball at me really fucking hard. It hit me right in the face, and then I just fell back.
I was told it was pretty freaky.
But wait, there's more!!
After I sat on the side for 10 minutes, I got back in. Stupid idea.
Another person kicked the ball really hard. I went a little out of my net to hit it with my hand. I did save it. But with a cost. The ball hit my thumb really fucking hard. Thus breaking my thumb.
What a day :(

I have to start this by saying my 2 biggest injuries came from playin wiffle ball and golf....OF ALL SPORTS...GOLF AND WIFFLE BALL! How the hell do you get hurt playing those? Well let me tell you.
In 7th grade, I was playing wiffle ball with a bunch of neighborhood kids. We had a league going. Some twerp hit a ball to me on the ground (who hit a grounder in wiffle ball anywayys?). So I Bent down to get the ball and heard two loud snaps. Both of my hamstrings popped. I fell straight to the ground....in serious pain. I was on crutches for a week or so. Wiffle ball! Damn Wiffle Ball!
In 5th grade i took a bunch of golf balls out to this park by my house in Hawaii. It had a playground and all sorts of shit. Anyways, I was hitting the ball like crap. Since my temper isn't worth a damn, I got pissed and threw my club as hard as I could. Needless to say it found the playground equipment, the merry-go-round. I went over to get the club, a 9 iron, and saw it was bent pretty badly. I didn't want my dad to kick my ass for screwing up the club, so I tried to bend it back. I put it over my leg to bend, and the club snapped, with one end slicing through my leg, forcing me to get 9 stitches. Those shafts can be pretty damn sharp.
There you go....that's how I got injured playin Wiffleball and Golf!

BUMP for a classic.
I meant to post this when it happened, but I broke a bone in my right hand (and I'm right-handed) this past December playing basketball. It was a freak accident really, I was guarding some one and my hand just broke when I was defending him. I was sidelined from basketball and weightlifting for 6 whole months.

I've sprained my ankles more times than I care to remember playing basketball. I've also torn my PCL - also left a big ass circular scar on my knee, sprained and broken my wrist playing basketball, and I reinjured said wrist playing soccer. I've also scraped up both knees playing soccer on some fields that didn't have a whole helluva lot of grass on them.
