I wasn't sure what would take the top spot this week, but I had a feeling it would be between NED KELLY and BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE, and Heath Ledger's drama turn won, but only just. The Aussie drama made $1,477,272, now taking its two week total with $4,921887, just beating out Steve and Queen in the former US #1 which took in $1,344,152. The Stephen King thriller DREAMCATCHER and the Amanda Bynes "comedy" sat tight at #3 and #4 respectively with $1,156991 and $990,526. DAREDEVIL took a 55% drop but is still raking in the money (Its 3 week total sees it with $6,445,788) and the audiences as its screen count of 231 is higher than that of all the top debuts, with BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE sitting with 214, DREAMCATHER had 155 and WHAT A GIRL WANTS had 170. The Adam Sandler comedy/drama just skimmed into the Top 10 with $260,987. THE WILD THORNBERRYS movie had a nice Advance Screening weekend making $137,197, most likely setting it up for at least a Top 10 debut when it opens nationally this week. JACKASS and FINAL DESTINATION 2 which will most liekly be ending their cinema runs soon, took hefty drops this week; the Johnny Knoxville shocker declined 64% whilst the horror sequel took the cake with 67%.
THIS WEEK (APRIL 10): A weekend for the kiddies mostly with the animated adventures of THE WILD THORNBERRYS and THE JUNGLE BOOK 2 opening. Also on hand is the Jerry O'Connell outing KANGAROO JACK, Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan doing the sequel thing in SHANGHAI KNIGHTS and Rowan Atkinson spoofing Bond in JOHNNY ENGLISH. For the older audiences, theres the crude Aussie comedy FAT PIZZA.
