This is the place to be for the next 2 months to bitch, whine and boast about your favorite team when and if they get eliminated from the 2003 edition of the NHL playoffs.

Also you can place predictions HERE for rounds 2 through 4 when the time comes...

I'll start off with this controversial topic that I'm sure schmoe BOB will appreciate.

The Aves are a way overrated team that will get smoked by the Canucks in 4 easy games in Round 2.;)

Heh, heh, BRING IT ON!

I just wanna say God Bless You for making a topic strictly for hockey. Me being a non-fan of the sport was getting sick of seeing topic after topic pop-up about hockey.

Word up! The next best thing to bob, me! :D

I am excited for this years playoffs.

Can't wait to see all the Sens fans crying about their loss.

While Toronto, as usual, goes on and kicks some ass!

A few predictions....

- I think one of the "young" teams; Minnesota, Tamapa Bay, Anahiem will make their mark.

- Sens will NOT win the cup. I am sorry, but I am still not convinced that they have a Stanley Cup team.

- Colorado will make is as far as the third round. Foresberg will kick ass, like last year. And Roy won't allow 6 goals of 16 shots :D.

Who will win the Cup??

I am not quite sure. I think it is too early for me to decide.

So, grab a beer, pull down your pants, Playoffs are here!!

P.S.- I so dearly hope a Candian team will bring home the cup! Those Americans have had it for far too long!

Born in Maine, lived there for two years, moved to Nova Scotia for six years, lived in Denver ever since. And, FYI, I only started loving hockey once I moved to Denver (incidentally, in the same year the Avs did.:) )

My first round playoff predictions:

EAST:

Ottawa vs. Islanders: Ottawa in 5
New Jersey vs. Boston: NJ in 6
Tampa Bay vs. Washington: Washington in 6
Philadelphia vs. Toronto: Toronto in 7

WEST:

Dallas vs. Edmonton: Dallas in 5
Detroit vs. Anaheim: Detroit in 6
Colorado vs. Minnesota: Colorado in 6
Vancouver vs. St. Louis: Vancouver in 6

1. The Avs are not overrated. They are appreciated. Just because a team is appreciated doesn't mean they are overrated. If you watch ESPN, all the broadcasters will pick apart the team for weaknesses before slathering praise on Detroit.

2. If the Avs were to meet the Canucks in Round 2, Detroit or Dallas would have to lose, which is pretty unlikely.

3.I think The Avs could go all the way to the Cup, but not if we have three seven-round series like we did last year. I believe we and Detroit have the most complete teams in the playoffs, whether or not they are the most beloved. I mean, we've got Roy, Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Foote, Morris, Tanguay, Hejduk, De Vries...I could continue.

4. And I will. Although we don't have 3 & 4 line scoring, we've got energy, and everyone from Dan Hinote to Riku Hahl has stepped up in playoff years past to get a big goal.

Notes NOT related to the Avs:
1. Philadelphia vs. Toronto will be one of the most exciting series in the Playoffs, with Toronto coming out on top in Game 7, probably in OT.

2. I don't see any newbies coming out of the first round.

3. Honestly, I like New Jersey vs. Colorado in the Cup Final, with Colorado on top because New Jersey will have just had to play tough series against Toronto and Ottawa.

I bet all those Sens fans wished they didn't make jackasses out of themselves when boldly predicating a sweep in the series.

But of course, they'll say it's just one game. They better hope the team gets their shit together for Saturday night. I know Garth Snow isn't that good!

NJ 2, BOS 1
TOR 5, PHI 3
EDM 2, DAL 1

Congratulations to blankpage on his club winning a wild match.

How about Edmonton over Dallas and New York over Ottawa? That caught me off guard. I watched the TOR-PHI game, natch, but these seemed like they'd be great games, too.

Of course, that's nothing compared to what us Nordiques will do tomorrow...:D

(actually, the Avs are prone to playoff blowouts, whether it's 8-1 over Florida in 96, 8-2 over San Jose in 02, or 7-0 loss against Detroit in 02 [Christ, even I won't let me live that down]).

Alright so Ottawa and Dallas choked I didn't see that one coming at all, but if Ottawa keeps focusing on Yashin instead of the game I know they can play they and if Snow plays the way he did last night Ottawa will lose this series because the Islanders are a tough team to play against.

This is also the 3rd straight time the Senators have opened the playoffs getting shutout. At least my Leafs won that all that matters in a typical leaf game. Get the lead in the first, play horrible in the second period and get a couple of players injured, and come back in the 3rd and win it thank you Donald Brashear for the stupid penalty to give us the win.

Speaking of stupid penalties what were Claude Lemieux and Derian Hatcher thinking with 4:30 left Lemieux takes a pretty dumb penalty and to top it off Hatcher takes a flying elbow at an Oilers player (I forget who it was). I personally think Hatcher should get a 1 game suspension for that, but knowing the NHL front office I reallt think he's getting $1000 fine.

I underestimated the lower seed teams, but I'm sure I'm not the only one.

MixMasterMoose
04-10-2003, 10:25 AM
Hatchers flying elbow was directed at Oiler D-man Steve Staios. Agreed Horrorfreak13 that it should be a one game suspension.

Man, what a day. My mouth is hurting from all the playoff talk.

Ok where to begin.

WOO-HOO! Toronto was kicking some ass last night. Although I will admit, they were out played for a lot of the game. Good to see Sundin getting two assists (what with the mouth). And Alexander M :D. My man ;).

I am glad to see NYI won. Honestly. I honestly think they can give Ottawa a run for their money. If Ottawa continues to play they were last night.... it will be back to 'ol golf course. The Sens played a nervous game. My mum said they couldn't handle the pressure. I agree.

Edmonton and Dallas. Wow. I think this will be tied with the TOR and PHI series for most intense. Only game one, and they were playing like it was 7th game in the finals. I like Dallas for Modano and Turco. But I hope EDM. can pull out an upset.

Predictions VERY soon......

Congratulations to blankpage on his club winning a wild match.

Give credit to J.S.Gigure for 63 saves and 36 of them in overtime if I'm correct. I wonder how many people left the Joe Louis Arena last night after they thought that Detroit won it when Robitaille hit the goal post. If Gigure keeps standing on his head like last night Anaheim has a chance.

Minnesota wins too last night with Dwayne Roloson's 5th ever playoff start and 2nd ever win even though they were outplayed at least from what I saw when they went to the game when Detroit and Anaheim were in intermission between the 1st and 2nd overtime periods. Has Roy learned to ever stay in his net especially for someone who dosen't play the puck well.

Vancouver played horrible all I needed to see last night was the first period and I really saw what was going to happen.

Out of the 8 games the road team has won 7 of them. I have the feeling an upset is going to happen and I hope not because it will pernamently kill my hockey pool, and tonight my leafs take on Phily and hope to take a 2-0 lead, but it won't be easy but play a complete game and no injuries I have enough stress already.

Yes, ashamed that Colorado lost the first game. But, if you remember, I predicted Colorado in 6, which means I can give Minnesota 2 games to give themselves a shred of hope before we destroy them. As for Roy, well, he's been our man for 7 straight years in the playoffs, making an even more grievous puckhandling error in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2001. Does anyone remember how that series ended? All I remember is Roy lifting some glorified wine glass over his head.:p

Good luck to blankpage's Leafs tonight. And, for all you Stars fans, fear not, for you'll probably sweep the rest of the series.

Fuck, I hate the FLYERS!

Did anybody see that clown Brashear bump Domi in the pre-game skate? No class, what an idiot! It seems the slapshot to the face he received from McSorley didn't teach this jerk some respect for other players!

I enjoyed seeing Tie pounding Donald Brashear's face in when the game got out of hand later on. Brashear got in a few punches but Tie soon polished this loser off.

They got that arrogant Roenick, the overrated Primeau and the overpaid Amonte rounding off this team. If the Flyers advance to the second round it'll be boring as hell, that's for sure.

By the way, that Wings-Ducks game Thursday night was incredible. Giguere did great, he is the reason why the Ducks won the game. Too bad I went to bed right before the 3rd OT began, so I missed the game-winning goal.

SO, who's everyone rooting for in the Frozen Four championship tonight, New Hampshire or Minnesota? I feel bad doing it, but once again I'll be rooting for the Golden Gophers.

Does anyone else kinda get the feeling that there were a whole bunch of flukes in the Game 1's? I think most people know that the superior team will prevail in the end. Like I don't think anyone seriously believes Anaheim will beat the Red Wings or Edmonton suprising Dallas.

However, I leave the possibility of an upset in the Ottawa-NYI series and even more so in the Vancouver-St. Louis series. Experience is a major factor.

Today's Scores

Anaheim over Detroit, 3-2
Colorado over Minnesota, 3-2
Washington over Tampa Bay, 6-3

Well, I'm only really suprised by Anaheim beating Detroit. That will no doubt be a crazy series, so I'll amend my predictions to Detroit in 7 (I REALLY want to bet against Detroit, but I don't see it happening). Washington has basically got there series wrapped up after two games, and the Colorado game was exactly as I suspected: We bounce back after a bad loss.

Well....we might disagree about who won the fight; but I don't see how you can say that Brashear was "sprawled out on the floor".

And there's no way the Leafs are gonna win both games 3 and 4. Toronto is too banged up; and the Flyers are outplaying them. The Flyers are also solid on the road (won 24 road games during the season). Philly ain't gonna lose back to back up there.

Let's go back in time shall we? Last year, first round of the playoffs... Vancouver vs. Detroit. Vancouver came away with a surprising couple of wins in Detroit to open up the series and then proceeded to lose four straight. This year, Anaheim has also won the first two games. Will Detroit right their ship again this year? Quite possible...but I'd also like to think that this Anaheim team has a better chance of taking this series and holding on to this lead than Vasncouver did last year simply because of goaltending. Giguere is and will be a superstar for many years, and the old saying "too bad he's on the Ducks" just isn't going to apply anymore. I am skeptical to whether or not they can continue this wild ride, but it'd be nice.

P.S. I hate Colorado...that one's for you bob

Now here is my question, some how or another i have ended upowning an ice hockey jersey thing, that has a team on it called the Lousianna Ice-Gators (get it, ice skaters, haha)

question 1: Is that even a real team or was the person who originally bought this ripped off possibly by a strange egyptian.

I actually quite used to like the Avs...until Bob Hartley pulled a rather weaselish trick out of his hat. Remember that game, it was a few years back...I don't remember who the Avs were playing anymore, but they were losing, and Hartley had the opponents' sticks measured not just once, but on two separate occasions. I had never seen such a pitiful act of desperation, I completely lost all respect for him...and unfortunately his team. But he's gone now, so I can like the Avs again. :) Roy and Hejduk are my fave players, btw. I know you have Sakic and Forsberg, but I like Roy and Hejduk.

Another game I'm pumped for is Anaheim and Detroit. The Anaheim crowd is gonna be JACKED and if Giguere continue to play like he has Anaheim is gonna pull off one of the biggest upsets in years. And what more can you say about Steve Thomas? The man has completely rejuvinated himself since landing in Anaheim and I'm so glad he got the winning goal yesterday.

I had never seen such a pitiful act of desperation, I completely lost all respect for him...

I suppose you respect a player that has to use an illegal stick to improve his play and score?

It might be desperate but at least it's LEGAL to ask to measure a stick, as opposed to a player using illegal equipment (I'd compare using illegal equipment to taking steriods, both give an unfair advantage); besides if the stick is legal then the team that asked for the measurement gets a penalty.

I back Hartley on that call.

Morgana

You're jumping to conclusions, Sev. I don't support a player who uses illegal equipment. But at the same time I don't respect a coach who uses a last ditch effort to save the game when he's losing, and then says, and I quote Hartley:

"We had information that Hasek was playing with an illegal stick," Avs coach Bob Hartley said. "Sometimes in games you try some things that work. Unfortunately for us, that one didn't."

Got this quote from here, but it doesn't mention the other stick measuring incident within the same game. Obviously it was a different game.

http://www.freep.com/sports/redwings/wsider30_20020530.htm

We'll just have to disagree on this one.

Indiana Sev
04-14-2003, 03:54 AM
Jacques Demers used this "last ditch effort" in the '93 playoffs in the finals when the Habs were playing the L.A. Kings. The player had an illegal stick, the Habs got the power-play, scored and won that game and eventually the STANLEY CUP.

Many people point to that as the turning point that led the Canadiens to the promised land. Those same people called Demers a genius and called that move brilliant. It's all about momentum in hockey and you gotta do what you have to in order to get things rolling on your side.

Sure, it's a last ditch effort, but I wouldn't go so far as to lose respect for a coach for measuring an illegal stick.

Either way, I respect your opinion Morgana, but this time around I'll have to disagree with you.

This will be a wild night hopefully my Leafs can rebound from the horrible game Friday night. Anaheim can put the kill to Detroit unless Joseph plays better than he did on Saturday those two goals the first and last goals were pretty weak. St.Louis fans better hope Pronger can fill a better role since McInnis is missing the rest of the series.

I think we can all agree that New Jersey is moving to round 2 which is no surprise. What a goal by Dvorak and that proved how much Dallas missed Hatcher, but now the Oilers are in the driver seat if they can win game 4

Poor bob ;).

Okay, more playoff talk from blankpage.

I have no doubt in my mind Detroit will come back. They just need to start playing like, well, they usually play. I think if Giguere slips, Detroit will kick some ass. Personally, I think Giguere is playing well. But he is having a Theodore season. No dis-respect to the Montreal fans. Ana. will depend on him too much, and like what happened to Theordore, Giguere will tire out and start letting all the shots past him.

Phil H. on Toronto made me pissed after Friday's game. He was basically the reason why they lost. Did you fucking see him?! I know the team was lacking "zip"(hehe), but come on! He was letting everyone by him. He was playing like Roy did in game seven against Detroit. Belfour had no chance! Brian McCabe didn't help that much either. But, I think the Leafs will bounce back. This will be like the Islander series from last year.

"Oh the good hockey game...."

P.S. : Brashear is the biggest idiot ever. I've said it before(not on the boards) and I'll say it again. A complete fucking loser.

The Islanders' neck is starting to snap too. A 3-2 overtime win put the Sens ahead 2-1, and another win should basically seal it. Fucking Yashin would've deserved to fall in 4 games, but I'll take 5 just as well.

That was easily the best game the Leafs played yet and still lose players man will this ever end. There must be someone out there with a Leafs voodoo doll or something, but at least Roberts' injury doesn't seem serious, but Mogilny I'm not sure. Glad Reichel finally showed up and played his best game in a Leafs uniform. He has gotten a lot of backlash from media and Leaf fans(like myself) to finally do something and he finally showed that he could actually do something

Anaheim over Detroit in the playoffs does this remind anyone of the 1994 first round series between Detroit and San Jose when San Jose upset the Red Wings(I think it was in 7).

And unless your name is either Belfour or Brodeur and you can't play the puck well then stay in your net especially when the puck is that far from your net.

Holy shit that overtime game was awesome!!!

The Leafs rebounded from some their shitty games 1 and 2 to play a gritty, bruising, rambunctious game against Philly. Was it just me or did Philly look like deer in headlights with the likes of Fitzgerald, Tucker and Domi forechecking their asses. Speaking of Tucker, that's one of the best games I've ever seen him play. That line as a whole was incredible. Almo was pure Almo. Sundin finally ditched the face mask and set up the winner and Robert's finally decided that if he isn't going to score, he's going to hit everything in sight.

I think Svehla is our MVP of the series so far. The guy laid some punishing hits out there. Wesley was a godsend. Berg is playing some reliable hockey.

I said to myself before the game: "I won't care if we lose, as long as we play a much better game". Well we played a better game AND won!

Oh, and Indiana_Sev, you can scratch my name in there under Leafs Fan as well brother!

2-1/2-0 both sound about right, either way, Detroit is going home tonight, poor Cujo, he couldn't have run off like that after all. A little ironic, Cujo leaves so he can win the cup in Detroit, they get booted out in 4 straight, in the first round, as his former team, the AMAZING TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS, go on to win the cup!
WHOO HOO

That poor Mogilny sure has a glass jaw though, smasheroonies.
Gimour is planning on practicing today to see how is leg feels on the ice, yay hoo.

It's a little sad about Corson, but if it was a distraction, than this is the best thing for everyone involved.

I remember a interview that Sportsnet did at the beginning of the NHL season asking Curtis Joseph who will win the gamble and Joseph said we'll see in June.

Well it's not June and Detroit's gone and it looks like so far the gamble hasn't paid off. The problem with Joseph is he has to face more than 30 shots a game to get in the grove and get overworked. He was with St.Louis, Edmonton, and Toronto and he doesn't face too many shots with Detroit.

Dammit,Dammit,Dammit 3ot periods and the Leafs couldn't put Phily away and it was a matter of time before Phily ended up scoring the was that was happenning now we will se what happens Saturday at 3PM because of ABC not that I'm compaining about it because the Leafs play like 1 afternoon game every 2 years or something like that.

All due respect to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks no one gave them a chance (including myself) and they sweep Detroit who became the 2nd team to win the cup and be swept the folloeing year. Thre only other team to do that was the 1951-52 Toronto Maple Leafs so join the club.

As far as the Shayne Corson situation goes well he is putting his health first remember he had a flare up with colitus at the end of the season and if being a healthy scratch is going to distratct the team then it is better that he should get out of there.

bob
04-17-2003, 05:19 PM
Well, I can't say I'm surprised the Wings got swept. When you know you're going to lose a series, it's hard to keep focused.

I think Edmonton's financial woes definitely hurt them. But inspite of that the Oilers play their hearts out each year, they make a tough, formidable opponent. I have a lot of respect for that. I have a helluva lot more respect for that than those overpayed prima donnas the NY Rangers who can't seem to be able to produce anything.

I think you have a team you can be proud of. It's just unfortunate that the Oilers' financial situation is what it is.

the Leafs have a break tonight with Phily losing Desjardans for 3-4 week blocking an Owen Nolan shot and the Leafs better pick it up and play better than the last 50 minutes of the last game.

Toronto will win and force a game 7 tonight winning 3-2

Colorado will win tonight and finish off Minnesota

I think Anaheim has a shot at Dallas especially if Guerin is out even longer and Turco keeps playing shakey

Yeah, I'm pretty confident the Avs will take care of Minnesota tonight. Probably be a tight, low-scoring game, but it will work out in our favor.

A great birthday gift dor Belfour a win thank god and no injuries either which is great and for that thought how do you recover from a fractured foot in less than 2 weeks oh well at least he is back and played really well.

My Leafs will win tonight how about 2-1 and even thought I don't mind overtime I wouldn't mind the win without it and then I'll get to see the other 2 games.

Speaking of the other two games Colorado in game 7 again this is the 5th(I think) straight time they have gone to a game 7 and for my hockey pool's sake they better win and Forsberg get a hat trick, and the same with Vancouver win and have Naslund and Bertuzzi get all the points. I would love to see Vancouver and Colorado series it would post a lot of goals.

Just another thing why didn't Reichel do what he did on his penalty shot when he was in Nagano when the Chechs were playing Canada in the shootout. We would have won the gold then.

Slim
04-22-2003, 11:49 AM
Yeah, Reichel's choice of a slapshot on that penalty was rather odd. I don't know what he was thinking, maybe he intended to surprise Cechmanek or something. Anyway it doesn't matter now.

The game against Minnesota last night was ridiculous. We go down by two goals, then score two (anyone else catch Sakic's laser? That was insane!), then lose it in overtime!!!

To give Minnesota credit, both of Park's goals were lasers, but still...The Avs cannot close a series. I think we'll win tonight, but if our next series goes to seven games, even if we win it, I don't think there's any chance we'll win the cup AT ALL.

What the hell happened?

My Leafs get beaten badly 6-1 and Colorado loses to Minnesota(couldn't have predicted that one) in overtime oh well so much for my hockey pool.

So since My Leafs are gone there not much left to say but Phily was the better team for 5 out of the 7 games and deserved to win that series and if I were Quinn this is what I would do.

Keep Wesley around, offer Selanne a contract, get rid of Lumme, Reichel, and Hoglund, and (even though I don't think he will leave Dallas) give Darien Hatcher whatever he wants.

In terms of predicting I was 5-3 in round 1 so here's my second round picks.

Phily over Ottawa in 7 - It will be different than last year

New Jersey over Tampa Bay in 6 - I can't see Tampa Bay winning this series.

Anaheim over Dallas in 7 - With J.S. Gigure they can win this series and Detroit had more depth than Dallas and Dallas won't get away with the goals they got against Edmonton then they will against Anaheim.

Vancouver over Minnesota in 7 - Vancouver is starting to come on real well, but this will be a low scoring series. Plus I'm joining the Canuck bandwagon now that my Leafs are gone

Yeah....I was at the game and I little surprised when some of the fans started to boo during the anthem. Never really happened at a game I attended before. Not like that.
But it was only a few hundred idiots. I don't know how loud it sounded on TV but most of the crowd is completely silent during the anthems; so when a few start to boo it might have seemed louder or that more people were doing it than there actually was.

I think there is a chance the Ducks will move on to the conference finals. You never know with the playoffs...I'd say after Minnesota killed the Avs, anything is possible. That said, the Stars are the obvious favorite, but I do believe the Ducks have a good shot at it this year, if all clicks.

Way to hold a lead, fellas.......

Well, what can I say? I'm not as upset as some of you might think because, quite simply, we don't deserve to move on. If we can't hold a 3-1 lead in a series over the worst team that made the playoffs in the West, we didn't have a chance at the Cup. It almost comforts me that we left early, so we don't embarass ourselves further. What really sucks about this is that in the off-season, LaCroix is going to trade away some talent, when it wasn't lack of chemistry that killed us, it was lack of energy. We slept through at least 20 minutes a game. Pitiful.

Oh, well. Here's my second round predictions

EAST

Philadelphia over Ottawa in 6
New Jersey over Tampa Bay in 6

WEST

Dallas over Anaheim in 7
Vancouver over Minnesota in 5 (hopefully Vancouver can hold a lead a little bit better than some un-named team)

In case anyone was wondering, I'm now rooting for Philadelphia and Tampa Bay.

I don't understand why no one likes the Sens chances against Philly. Aside from playoff experience there is no excuse...and even that is old...after using that one each of the last two years. I'm not saying they'll make it to the finals, but I...i am just surprised at the lack of expectations.

Anyway...I noticed that they sent Jason Spezza down which I feel bad for. I don't think he'll be a Senator for much longer with the way they treat him. They always send him back to the minors when the going gets big, like they have no faith in him. He's a solid player who may be struggling, but I think he'd help more than hurt in the next round.

The lack of expectations is not due to playoff experience. Sens have had plenty of experience losing to the Leafs. :p For me, it's all the hype that Ottawa spews every year about having a great team and how that will translate to post-season success this year! Pffft Islanders? Not much has changed, so don't believe the hype. In addition, Philly is not the team that fell apart last year. They will score plenty of goals and Cechmanek is playing great.

Although, I do expect Ottawa to win tonight, big time.

If Minnesota somehow beats the Canucks and the Stars advance, it will be a wild (don't forgive the pun) series. The old Minnesota organization facing the new version. Plus, these teams have a strong dislike for one another.

Am I the only one who thinks the North Stars should never have been moved?

Why take away an organization away from a city if you're only going to replace it with a weaker one a few years later?

Really dumb move and unfair to the Minnesota fans who missed out on a Stanley Cup.

Sev, I can't comment on the move because I got into hockey only after the Stars became the Dallas Stars. But I know people in Dallas, and I have attended a game in Dallas, and the Dallas crowd does have an appreciation for the team, and for hockey. They have really shitty ice, but I think Texans have taken very well to hockey. So the team is not wasted on them.

As far as the Minnesota Wild is concerned...I dig them. They're the ultimate underdog. And to have gotten as far as they have now, I'm sure they made their fans very happy.

I didn't answer the question at all, did I? lol

I guess a new team should've just been created for Dallas, and the Minnesota fans should've been able to keep their old team. That would've been fair. But, I don't think anyone could've foreseen that Minnesota would have another team, so...I just have to accept it the way it is.

Yeah, I know the Texans love their hockey down there (wow, the NHL actually made a smart move), I can tell by the raucous crowds and attendance. That's cool. As far as the other southern teams *coughAtlantacough*....

You from Texas?

Better days...

Nah, I live in Oregon. I'm the Switzerland of the NHL...I'm always neutral. lol. The good part about that is I can remain neutral, and somewhat objective. The bad part is, I don't get to go to games. :( But, it's always been my position that Canada needs to keep the few teams it has left, even if it means I don't get to go to games. There was a rumor a while back that the Oilers would move to Portland because of their financial woes, but I really wouldn't want that. I mean, how many people would appreciate hockey here in Oregon? Me, my dad, and my dog Nicki? Nah, the Oilers need to stay in Edmonton. Btw, I'm 100% Czech, hence my somewhat belated love for hockey. Which brings me to another point...

Arto_j...it totally cracks me up when you talk about the Swedes in the NHL. I, with a few exceptions, feel that way about the Russians. :D

Oh, if the Stars get into more trouble in the next few games, will you be asking the male schmoes here to SHAVE their legs for good luck?

The hatred for them Swedes has grown into me on a long period of time...They're our neighbours, and I just love to hate the (most, at least)...Always cheering for 'em to lose, basically. The best times are definitely the World Championships, or the Olympics when us two face off against each other, it's mad.

And the Russians...From the other border :)

Not a fan of theirs either, but there's not such a huge competition there, as to the Swedes.

And go Sens! Philly, perhaps the most boring team in the league, will go down in 6, I tell ya. There's no stopping us this year.

The funny thing is, perhaps the Sens' best player...is a Swede.

Wha? The Expos are moving to Oregon? I didn't know about that, I don't really follow baseball until the playoffs, and then only if the Mariners or Indians are in them. Maybe I should take a peak into the MLB thread...

And yes! There's a Stars game today, the Stars need all the help they can get. Gentlemen, razors for each and every one of you!

I was actually born in the Czech Republic, and I'm old enough to have experienced some of the communist bloc days. The Russians weren't just our rivals, they occupied our country! Hmpf! Hence me very special love for Russian players. :)

And yes, Go Sens! I'm predicting they'll win in 7, but 6 is better. Of course, 5 would be EVEN better.

Five would be EVEN better indeed, but I'd say 4 would be the best. That gets a bit harder to top.

And I'd say we have our past with the Russians too, as they tryed to make us part of the country...And did actually, until we broke free (yay! ;))...But the Swedes...It's a special kind of rivalry there.

But I certainly see why you wouldn't like the Russians, yourself. I'm not their biggest fan either, as I said :)

Wow, another OT for the Stars and Ducks. Oh well, the Devs and Tampa are doing it, why not the Stars and Ducks? :)

Hope this afternoon doesn't get TOO long...

Well that was fast...geeeeezzzzzzzz. I went to refresh my supply of pretzels...I think I can start singing Highway to Hell for the Stars now. They really needed that game. I don't think they have much of a chance of coming back now. Oh well, at least they'll be in good company with the Avs and the Redwings. :(

Anaheim is just the team that won't quit. They've shown great tenacity already in the playoffs, and they don't look like they're letting up anytime soon.

Too bad the Devils won again, I want to see Tampa get to the Conference Finals. Did you see St. Louis' breakaway, though? That guy's a beast.

Morgana

I agree, bob. Anaheim is like a snowplow, there's no stopping them. I keep saying how impressed I am with Giguere, but it's actually the whole Ducks team that's playing some very solid and gritty hockey. If they win this round, I can see them easily being able to plow either the Wild or the Canucks out of the way. I think the Ducks will be this year's Western Conference champ, in the least.

Didn't get to watch the Tampa-Devils game. But that OT ended pretty quickly too. I thought at least one game would go into triple OT. lol

*Time out*

a little sports gossip....

My local sports program (Sportsnet) reported that Martin Brodeur's wife (now separated) is suing him for 9 million bones. Apparently dude cheating on her with his sister-in-law!?

It's definitely not affecting his play, if the Devils win the next game in Tampa the series is pretty much over.

You don't know how many times I've heard stories about these hockey players cheating (with teammates wives no less). I've seen some hockey wives, they are all pretty much the same: Perfect-bodied blondes.

Playoff gossip over.

*Game on*

Marty? Oh man, that kinda bums me out. One of the reasons I've always liked Marty is because he didn't have the typical plastic blonde bimbo wife. As I recall, she's attractive, but more on the very normal looking side. Yay for Marty! Not anymore, I guess. :(

I used to read a lot of hockey message boards, and knew people who were within the hockey circle, and yeah...hockey players cheating on their wives apparently is very standard fare. And the wives a lot of times know it, but hey, their husbands are millionaires, so I guess they're willing to overlook. Not Melanie ex-Brodeur, apparently. Good for her!

Gossip over on my part.

bob

I won't believe that until I see an article or something. Brodeur's the best Goalie currently playing (not all-time, just NOW), so it would suck if that was true.

Well, maybe her wife isn't the typical plastic blonde bimbo, I've never seen her, I just meant MOST wives are like that.

I was surprised to hear that as well, he always seemed like a good guy, whenever he comes to town he gets his hair cut by my barber (she's really good). She told me he's a classy guy, hey, you know what, may
