My Predictions

Bulletproof Monk- This film should be quite a big hit. Chow Yun-Fat may not be the biggest star ever in America, but he has a cult base which should show up to see this picture. Seann William Scott will attract teens who loved him in movies like American Pie, Road Trip, American Pie 2, and Evolution. The trailers should show enough action, comedy, and stunts to please most American audiences. It will have to face off with Anger Management and Phone Booth. but it still should make around 16 million for the 5-day weekend: 11 million for the 3-day weekend.

Holes- This one is a big "?" for me. I know many kids who REALLY love the novel by Louis Sachar, and the star, Shia LaBeouf, appears on the popular Disney channel TV comedy sitcom, Even Stevens. The trailers seem very lame to me, but it could come off as a "cool adventure" flick for kids (I mean some kids are really stupid today). I predict an opening of 11 million.

Malibu's Most Wanted- I smell a bomb here. From what I see, Jamie Kennedy is not that big of a star, spare his little WB show. Also, the trailers looks lame. I predict an opening of 5 million.

Chasing Papi- Hard to predict. I think it looks lame, but it might get some business from young adults. 2 million.

Here's the EST. THEATER COUNTS "for now":

Chasing Papi (4/16) - 600+
Bulletproof Monk (4/16) - 2,500+
Holes - 2,000+
Malibu's Most Wanted - 2,500+
A Mighty Wind (4/16) - Limited
Bend It Like Beckham - 500+

***By the way, my predictions are for the 3-day weekend only.***

Hmm, I haven't really thought this throught yet... BULLETPROOF MONK should do decent business, but not great or anything. I see a weekend take of 13 Million, and most likely not any more than that... HOLES ooks fucking stupid! They are trying to advertise it as a scary and thrilling adventure, but I think it will be boring. Oh well, I'm sure it will fool kids, but it certainly won't fool me. The plot is dull and I think they are falsely advertising it. I doubt it will be anywhere near as exciting as they are trying to make it look. But with a PG rating and the false advertising, it could still make 9-10 Million... I agree with DH,
MALIBU'S MOST WANTED also looks dumb, but I don't think it will make quite as little as DH predicted. The reason is because it seems that these movies that look really stupid and people expect to bomb, usually end up pulling in some surprising numbers. Now I doubt MMW is going to be very big, but I don't see quite as big of a bomb as DH predicts. Of course, I'm just basing this on the fact that a lot of teens and pre-teens seem to find really stupid humor hilarious. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind stupid humor, as long as it's stupid humor that's actually smart, and not humor so stupid that's just plain unfunny. Anyway, for now I'm going to predict and opening weekend of around 9 Million, and a finish of about 30 Million. Then look for the sequel to be released in 2004, it will be titled "DUDE, WHERE'S MALIBU'S MOST WANTED?"

I'm not sure what to predict for CHASING PAPI... I don't know how the reviews are and I haven't seen the trailer or TV spots yet. I guess for now I'll go with 3 Million...

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM has been doing excellent in limited release. Depending on how it does this weekend, I'm think it should pull in around 3.8 Million next weekend.

Bulletproff Monk- I didn't want to see his at first, but I kept on getting interested, and with good WOM I think this should open from anywhere from 10-15 million

Holes- I really have no clue. I want to see this, but word of mouth hasn't been good and this is the only "family" movie out there. I think this could open anywhere from 9-12 million

Mailbu's Most Wanted- I think this will do good the first weekend, and then no one will see it after that, anywhere from 5-9 million is possible.

Anger Managment- Shold be number 1 with 25 million

This is too early......this weeks releases haven't even been released yet.

Granted the bulk of these films open on Wednesday, however Wednesday is not the weekend.

I'm closing this until Saturday, after the Friday estimates are released.

Cool my theater should get Chasing Papi!

Bulletproof Monk - I think that this film looks incredibly terrible, not only does it not look funny, it basically rips off the 'Shanghai' series (Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson) with the older wise man and the goofy American and a female counterpart in Jaime King. Plus, the title is really dumb and enough to turn some people off. I'll see it but I don't see it becoming a big hit.
13 million

Malibu's Most Wanted - This also looks really dumb but these type of white wannabe gangster films seem to be in right now with Bringing Down the House an version of it also. It will probably be a moderate hit, performing somewhere around The New Guy level.
9 million

Holes - This film looks quite dull but the novel is loved by many and the cast has Sigourney Weaver and Jon Voight along with recognizable child stars.
10 million

Chasing Papi - This might attract a Latino audience.
5 million

It's important to remember that House of 1000 Corpses is expanding to over 1200 sites on Friday so I doubt that it will drop 58% like you think dh189. In fact, it is bound to increase quite a bit.

I still think all of Rob Zombie's fans raced out opening weekend to see it, even if they had to drive quite a bit. I also still think it'll drop 58%, possibly higher.

I wanted to see it but didn't feel like driving over an hour to do so. I can't be the only one. I think that while it might well decrease it will only drop 50% at the most but we'll see. You may end up being correct.

I will raise my Holes prediction to 10-15 million. And bring my Bulletproof Monk prediction to about 17 million. And I am sticking to my Malibu's Most Wanted prediction.

Mike, Holes will make more money then 9.7 million. It was sold out all 4 showings today, and so was Anger Managment, Phone Booth, Wild Thornberrys (don't ask why this is playing!), What A Girl Wants, Malibu's Most Wanted, Chasing Papi.

Movies that had no one in them:
Agent Cody Banks
Man Apart
(special 12:00pm showing FRIDAY ONLY!) May

Pretty dissapoining that the special showing of May had no one in it. I am gonna see it tonight at 12:25am.

Can I ask you a question thats been been chapping my ass? Your 14 years old and your parents are letting you go see movies at 12:25 A.M.? Plus, where are you getting all this money where you keep saying you buy movies blindly? Just a question.

I always had money too when I was growing up. I could go to the movies whenever I wanted, no matter what time. I never had a curfew, my parents trusted me, and they had good reason to. I always let them know where I was going and stuff, and I completely respected them. Hell, I didn't even really work for money when I was that age. Sometimes I'd babysit, but whenever I needed money I could get it.
