I want to know if I am totally off base here or what. I would have been happier just seeing the trailer and nothing else. Since there wasn't much else to offer.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this movie. Like I said in one of the other topics i really need to see it again. It was just another summer blockbuster, which isn't a necessarily a bad think at all, but it's just not what I've come to expect from Tim Burton. There were a lot of easy laughs. Sure the whole "can't we all get along" part was kinda ammusing, but it wasn't exactly creative genius.

On the other hand the apes and some of the actions shots were simply amazing and it's worth the cost of admission just to see the these two things. Though most of the female characters makeup seemed a little weak to me, the males were jaw droppingly realistic. The actual real monkey didn't look any more lifelike than the actors in ape makeup.

It was either the writing or the acting that brought the movie down. I normally like Marky Mark, but he just plain sucked here. I'm not sure if it was him or the lines he was given to say. The only performance that I really liked was Tim Roth's. Helena Bonham Carter's was ok, but nothing special. Estella Warren was also nice to look at.

as far as special effects, makeup and such I give the movie it's props, as for dialogue. I think they just didn't have it in them(the writers) See it again? I don't think that my brain could handle seeing that one again. The Nokia battery line is what really did me in.

bmain - you hit the nail on the head about the female apes makeup. They looked almost exactly as they did in the old version. **SPOILER**It just looked kindof fake especially when Marky Mark and Bohman-Carter kissed. It looked like she didn't have an upper lip, and there was no movement in the lips and face like real animals have. General Thade on the other hand, had me completely convinced he was real. His fcial movements was done excellently, even the small muscles in the cheek and nose moved.

Why don't you explain your theory behind 'Planet of the Cliches'

Not the worst movie this summer (that title still belongs to TOMB RAIDER), but the most unnecessary film. Rule #1: Never remake a classic. Remake a bad film (Soderbergh is wise in remaking OCEAN'S ELEVEN; the original was shitty.) Rule #2: If you're going to make the mistake of remaking a classic, don't bring back anything from the original that would furhter remind us what a big mistake it is (Charlton Heston's cameo was the movie's single most amusing scene, but his presence diminished the rest of the movie). Rule #3: Don't try to be original by throwing in a twist ending: it's a sign of desperation and it will piss off audiences even more. So there.

I forgot to add that once again Tim Burton has failed to weave a narrative that we could give a damn about.

I liked it...7/10. It was fun. Not well made though. The characters were not written well (I'm trying to keep my patience). But there was this one scene that I couldn't stop laughing at. Seriously! It was when the bad ape is running through town and he jumps to another ape's door and says "Have you seen any humans!?" and the other replies "No I have Not!" That was some of the funniest shit I've seen.

And sticking in the dialogue from the original movie was just utter crap. examples: damn them, damn them all to hell; get your hands off me you damned dirty human.

I felt like puking at those parts.

Yeah Max, ur crappy rules are pointless. You made all that just to look intelligent. There are NO RULES about remaking movies.

I expected a lot from Burton. I was a little dissapointed, it didnt look as a Burton movie. But I thought the movie was OK. The best part was General Tharde (Tim Roth) God he kicked ass! Especcially when hes stuck behind the ship doors. At a moment, i thought that the dude would break in the theater and kill everyone.

SPOILERS
And about the ending, i thought that it was a little previsible. I dunno, but when I heard the voice in the ship, i said to myself : Wait, that could be a monkey!

Pofcorn - Those are my rules. If Hollywood followed them, we wouldn't have had to sit through crappy remake after crappy remake. Oh, btw, I *am* intelligent.

Yeah, just go to Hollywood and tell those dudes about ur rules on making remakes. They'll laugh at you and send you back to where you came from.

How did you come up with these rules? Did you watch many remakes? As far as I know, i dont see many of them.

So which movies did you watch to make up these rules?

I think Burton did a fine Job remaking this one. But he wasnt as his best when he did that. He should have put more work in the characters and the dialogues. The movie could have been a lot better, but Burton seemed to have "screwed" it, in a way.

ok, im sorry. Its just that I see a lot of assholes everywhere who think they know a lot about movies but in fact, they dont know anything. Im not saying that I know a lot about movies, but i obviously know a lot more than the majority of my friends.
