Now we can all tell the stories of the greatest sports moments of our own personal lives. Here are my stories.
I was 13 playing little league ball and my team was losing. We were in the field and the bases were clear. This big huge kid on the other team named Seth steps up to bat and immediately blasts one into center field. The scrawny kid playing center couldnt get to the ball in time so I ran from right field to the fence and picked it up and heaved it home. Seth was so sure he got a home run that he was jogging down the 3rd base line like he had all the time in the world. Well, my throw, and im seriously not joking here, went all the way from the center field fence (I pushed off of it with my other hand for extra power) directly to the catcher standing on the 3rd base line watching all of this go down. He hardly had to move his glove to catch the ball. Meanwhile, Seth is still jogging home when all of a sudden he realizes that somehow someway the catcher is holding the ball in his glove. The catcher tags Seth out and all of a sudden everyone in the bleachers and in both dugouts and even Seth himself are staring out into right field, looking at me like "How the hell did he do that?" Seth was pissed, mainly because he couldnt figure out how this kid who was smaller than him (not by much, we are the same size now) threw him out at home plate from the center field fence. Fortunately, time has passed, the wound for Seth has healed, and we are friends now. In fact, when we are hanging out every once in awhile, he'll say something degrading to me all in fun and I'll just come back with "Remember the time I threw you out from the center field fence?" He pretty much shuts up then.
Same year of little league. My team is one of the final 8 teams in the playoffs. We're down 1 run with 2 outs in the 7th inning (little league here is only 7 innings). Theres one person on first, and the kid that was up to bat gets walked, which promts me to the plate. Before I start to walk up to the plate I turn and say to my g/f in the stands "Im gonna win this game for us". I get up to bat, take 2 balls, foul a couple off and then the perfect pitch, and I crack a line drive into right field (Im a lefty, throwing and hitting). The kid on second scores to tie the game, and the kid on first is rounding third as I head to second. The throw comes in and I get cought in a run down. The kid that rounded third scores, and when he did, it distracted the 2nd baseman who ended up bobbling the ball. I slid around him into second and was SAFE. Because I was safe, the run counted, and we won the game. That game is also memorable because that was the only time I ever survived a run-down during a game. Before I always got tagged out. Since we won we got into the final 4 of the playoffs but we ended up losing. Oh well.
Another triumph of mine was the first year I became a pitcher in little league. I was 12, and had never pitched before, but I was pitching for fun in practice one day and the coach liked what he saw. My 3rd game of the season I ended up having a perfect game. No hits, no walks, no runs, pitched all 7 innings. Of course I cant take full credit, because my teammates helped by getting the outs when the ball was hit. But still, I got in the paper for it.
So, what are your sports nostalgia stories? Got any to share?

My favorite personal sports triumph was when I ran in a 10k race about 15 years ago. At the beginning, and throughout the majority of the race, I was dead last. It was very discouraging, whatever sport I do I don't want to come in dead last. But I kept on plowing along, and when there was only about 300 yards left my "kick" kicked in, and I started passing all these people. I must've passed at least a dozen runners, and they couldn't catch me. So I didn't end up coming in last afterall. I didn't come in first, far from it, but I was just totally stoked I finished and I didn't come in dead last. :)

Baseball:
1.The first time that I hit a home run over the fence. It went over the left field fence and was probably the best I ever felt after I game.
2.When I hit an in the park grand slam to win the game. We were down by three in the last inning and I was up to bat, and well the rest is history. :D
3.When my team won the championship two years in a row. One year we were 15-1 and the next year we were 14-2.
4.When my team scored 20 points in one inning. In the same inning there were four over the fence home runs in a row, and I remember batting at least three times. I hit one of the home runs and also got a double, walked the other time though.
Basketball:
1.I only have one for basketball. It was when I was on the 8th grade basketball team and we were the worst team in the whole district. We hadn't won a game the whole year. But, we still played in a tournament near the end of the season. In our second game we were matched up against the team that ended up winning the entire tournament. Well, my team played the best game ever and nearly beat be the best team in the district. The final score ended up being like 33-32 or something. That's how close a game it was. Even though we didn't win, it was still a great moment knowing how hard we played.

In fifth grade while playing football at recess, I was running without looking where I was going. I ended up running full speed into a dumpster and knocking myself out. I thought that was pretty cool at the time.

Hm. I think mine was back in the 8th grade year with the big middle school basketball tournament. Similar to Sub's, we didn't actually win, but we sure as hell put up a fight. Ok.. .I was never an amazing basketball player, but I wasn't too bad. I did freaking love to play, so I entered my name in the big touney. Pretty much everybody had already formed their own team, so to put it nicely, there wasn't many good players left. Well eventually I found 3 guys, none very good, but they were pretty much my only choices. We of course drew the hardest team in the first round. It didn’t bother me too much, I always like being the underdog. Well anyways, I was all pumped up and ready to go...but one of my players ditched us! He never showed up. So we only had 3 players, which would mean we couldn't sub at all, and we would be really freaking tired. Well I don't want to toot my own horn, but I played probably the best game of my life. I don't think I missed a shot the whole game....but I was also the only one that actually scored. It was a tight game the whole way through, but in the end we ended up losing by 2. Ah well I thought, hopefully we can win our next game. I expected to get at least get a little breather, but literally a minute after our first game, we had to play the second. Need less to say, we were all DEAD. Well luckily my team did help me out a little more in the second game, but it still wasn't enough..we ran out of gas pretty quickly. I still had an amazing game. I think the highlight of the game was one of the other team's girlfriends was just yelling every single time her man touched the ball, and was cheering her ass off for them. Well I nailed a big three to tie the game up late that really shut her up. Like I said though, it wasn't quite enough. We ended up losing by 3 I believe. After the game the other team came up to me and shook my hand, I know it sounds corny...but damnit it was pretty fucking cool. Well that's my stupid story, hope you enjoyed.

My little cricket story:
A couple of seasons ago i was playing in the best team in the league, mainly because we had the best player in the league, and he carried the team pretty much. Well when we played the second best team in the league, we were like 5 for 20, and he got out for 5 or something, and i had to come into bat. This was probably my worst season for batting, but i saved the team this day. I put on 3 good partnerships and got 60, almost hit a six three times (ball bounced once over the line) and got our team to like 150 or something. Then we hammered the other team when we were bowling.
Oooh and my first game of that season, i took 4 wickets for 2 runs off 4 overs, but that was against the worst team in the league, so it wasn't THAT much of an achievement.
OOOHHH and one more tiny story, it was when i was a reeeeaaalllll young'n and when i was good at running. We were in a 100m relay with two guys and two girls. And i had to run last, and when i started the run we were coming last and one team was already 50m into the last run. I ran my ass off and beat the lot of them. i was soo happy, but then i stepped on a bee and it hurt, but i wa like 8 or 9 years old.
thinking for more stories, oh yeah i'll tell you the one i did in bowling its in the bowling thread aswell. Well I bowled it, it went in the air, hit the part that seperates the lanes, went into the lane next to me, and got a strike for that lane. OH YEAH

Floor Hockey
Back in high school once, we were having one of our inter-school hockey games. Anyway, the opposing team was minus a player and my team had an extra one that day. Now, I was regarded by most as a "cherrypicker" (a player who stands near the opposing team's zone and waits for the errant ball to go on a cheap breakaway) so my teammates betrayed me and voted me off to join the other team.
I was steamed!
So, as soon as I joined my new team I went to the face-off circle for the drop. As soon as the ball dropped it was ALL ME! I took immediate control of the ball and went on to deke all my former teammates (nobody even touched me) and continued on to the net, I easily beat the goalie and turned to see the stunned faces of my former and new teammates. This was all in one full sequence...just me. What a shaft! You should of seen the looks on those suckers faces. Trade me, will you?
Hee, hee. I should of retired right there.
What a way to end a career!:)

hmmm i played cricket for the school back in the day and we came second that year. i am a fairly average player at best, so when we got our asses kicked in the final, i was just glad that i was in the final partnership that managed to avoid going out. :D
also, the school used to do a huge cross country race, that you had to participate in once a year. i manage to come within the top 20, somehow, and beat some of the best atheletes in the school easily. ok, so i was like 13th or something, but the fact that i was never much of an athlete compared to some i beat. that was kind of cool,.
more than once playing soccer with my friends, i scored some amazing goals. those were my favourite, those small personal triumphs :)

My personal favourite would be my player of the year awards at my youth football team Gregory Celtic. I won it three years in a row 1988-90. From the Under 11s- Under 13's. We were an awesome team until Under 17s...
Now I'm just a lazy bastard who has to rely on past glories.

Never won a championship in anything myself. But I was very proud to have coached my step-son's basketball team to back to back championships.
I was also very proud to have led my football league three seasons running in receptions, interceptions and touchdowns as a two way player.
My greatest catch was a fun one. It was in the first game I played in the flag football league. We were getting blown out, and had no chance of winning. On the final play, our quarterback threw the ball to the back corner of the end zone. I dove for it, and got the ball on my fingertips. When I hit the ground, the ball was dislodged, and flew into the air, coming to rest on my back. My face was in the dirt, and I looked up at the referee. He hadn't signaled an incomplete pass. So I reached up with both hands and placed them on the ball, on my back. TOUCHDOWN!!
We still lost by something like 21 points.

cool stories folks
I got a couple in basketball...
I played basketball in middle school, and once in 7th grade we were playing a decent team. Our school had a terrible athletics program, and our team was really bad. There was one kid, Reggie, who was absoultely brilliant, though . He had scored most of our points throughout the game (as he usually did), but we were still down by two points with like 10 seconds to go. Reggie brought dribbled it in to the top of they key and was immediately double-teamed, leaving me open on the 3-point line. He did a no look pass to me, and i threw it up, it went in!! It wasnt exactly the prettiest shot (went off the backboard), but it went in and we won the game, our first victory of the season (and one of our only ones).
Another time we were blowing out our competitor, and as a result the coach took out Reggie in fear of injury or something of the sort. That left me as the go-to-guy while he was out, and I got the ball every time for our first 6 possessions. Each time I shot a 3, and sunk every one of 'em. I racked up 18 points within 2-3 minutes, that was cool. The best part was that it was a home game, and every time i made a shot the crowd kept getting louder and louder. After the game the other team's coach shook my hand and said "nice shot," that felt nice.

Ok...I have a few all from my days playing sports in England as a young lad.
First when I was 11-12 years old around 1990 I won the javelin throw for my age group! Each year we would have an athletics field day at the end of the summer term...everyone would compete in track and field type events in all 6 age levels of the school. Everyone's parents and family would come and have picnics etc. it was like a real big deal. Anyway I had a good arm...always have and I managed to win the the javelin throw(yes that sharp pole!) I remember because it was straight into a very strong wind for that day...anyway I wound up winning a sort of silver mug...almost like a beer stein...I still have it in my room has my name engraved on it etc.
One year I also won the billiards tournament...in England we don't play pool we play snooker and billiards...so Euro schmoes will know what I am talking about. Each year we would have tournaments for small sports and games, like chess, snooker, table tennis(ping pong) etc. and one year I won the billiards tournament. I still am a kick ass pool player today...used to win money from my friends all the time playing pool in high school and college.
I will always remember my last cricket match before I moved to California from England. Summer of 1992...it was my first and only year at a boy's public school called Charterhouse...some may have heard of it. Anyway we had all the sports teams etc. and there were different levels...ie the 1st Eleven, 2nd Eleven etc. That cricket season I managed to get onto the 1st Eleven, only because of my ace defense and solid bowling...I was never a good batter...never was before that. The season went along and I didn't really get much pub or playing time and eventually I was moved to the 2nd Eleven...same sort of thing and my final game I ended up with the 3rd Eleven. I remember that game because it was my final game...I wound up batting like 50 runs or so...took 4 wickets and made perhaps one of the most toughest and spectacular catches I've ever made. Also memorable because both my parents were there.
Also one of the years I played field hockey...we had a good team we always did...I was like 11 at the time and that year I scored a goal in each game we played.
My only real major sporting achievement since I've been here in California was when I shot a back 9 37 at Mountain view Golf links...its a place where I usually play golf...its memorable because my total score was 81 9 over par...my best ever round on a golf course. It's mostly memorable because on the 18th hole I chipped in from off and below a raised green for birdie to shoot that 37!
I'll also say my greatest other golfing moment was last summer playing golf with my uncle...and on a hot summer day we played 36 holes on two courses that were part of the same club...anyway we come to the final hole of the day...a 450 yard par 4...it was a little bit downhill and with the wind...Anyway I'm hella tired as it is but somehow I unleash a mammoth straight and the most purest drive I've ever hit. I had 90 yards left for my 2nd shot! I had hit a 360 yard drive! needless to say I botched the hole and made double-bogey 6!
I forget to mention I took Intermediate Bowling for one of my P.E. classes in college...anyway I used to go bowling in the student union for a while after that by myself...and that is where I bowled my high score of 225!
Memorable because of a Seinfeld quote, when George sells his dad's cabana clothes at Rudy's and the guy offers George $200 for them and George replies..."Can you make $225...that was his high game in bowling" :D So me and Frank Costanza share that in common...a high game in bowling!

another cricketing moment for me was:
When i got selected for this cou try week cricket tournament (which we eneded up losing every match and i was embarassingly crap at batting that week) but i was aweseom in the field and this was one moent i will never forget, unless i get like amnesia or something.
The cricketing schmoes will know how hard this is. I was standing at half pitch, althugh a little closer, and we had a spinner bowling, the batter charged down the wicket, smashed the ball off the middle of the bat and i caught it one handed from like 2-3 metres away. Bloody great feeling when that batter bowed his head in shame.

My story is floor hockey, too...natch.
It was the championship game ( , but keep reading anyway). The way we played the game in my gym class, we had two thirty minute periods. In the first period, I was a forward. The guy who was our goalie was solid for a while, but eventually we were down 5-0. That was the score going into the second period. They put me in goal (odd choice, considering I've always played forward), and we won the game 6-5. I made 10 saves in the last half minute of the game, including one that hit my knee, then my mask, then the post.

My one and only buzzer beater in an official competition basketball game. It was the winning shot, my 28th point of the game, and the end of a comeback from a 17 or 18 point deficit, and I hit it right after grabbing a spectacular offensive rebound, and I hit it right on the face of some asshole who had been insulting my mother all game long (one of those dicks who thinks trash talking is just spitting out stupid, disgusting insults). Go home, fucka.

8th Grade year. I was the best pitcher on the team. We were Down to the last 3 games, and had to win 2 to win the city title. I pitched the first game. The team we played was in next to last place. I went through thier lineup like Randy Johnson on crack. No one could touch me. I struck out 16 of their schmucks, and pitched a no hitter. The first of my life.
We lost the next game by 2 runs. That meant the last game was for the title. This sounds corny and made up, but we were playing the team we were tied with. Who ever won, won the title. I pitched another game of my life. This time I gave up one hit, but it should have been caught. It was the 6th inning and the coach put in one of our chump players, a big fat kid. He let one drop right ni front of his feet. Any other kid on the team, and it would have been an easy out. Didn't matter, it was the only hit they got. I struck out 14, and even went 3 for 4 at the plate with 3 runs batted.

Well this actually happened to me this year.
Ive won championships before but never got a game winner. So this was in a a playoff to see who would get to the championship. My team was down 22 points in the 4th quarter and we came back and brought it down to 2with10sconds left coach took me from the point guard position(for doc i did really play point)and put me at shooting gurad for my three point shot. The point guard at the time drove to the whole kicked it out to me and i drained a three to win the game and we went on to win the championship in 2 ots later that week

Horry had a bad playoff season, and regular season, but how many of those shots has he hit? I didn't mind the ball in his hands in that situation. This one didn't fall.
I find it very hard to trash the Lakers right now. They won three in a row for us. That's pretty damned good.

Anyone ever score the game winning touchdown, or kick the goal that won the game? Anything that remains special to you?
For me, it was my junior year on the wrestling team. We were against the "Martins Ferry Purple Riders". They were known for being one of the better teams in our state in our division. Naturally, we were getting whooped on pretty good. I was the last to wrestle, and the score as 56-9, and only two other folks on our team had beaten members of their team (One by pin, one by decision.)
Naturally, we also had a "strong team", but not quite the spectacular program that they had. As I went out, I was furious. I locked up with their guy, and held him into a double over-hook, and threw him backwards, rolling him onto his back, and scoring the pin. Through we still got our asses handed to us, our crowd went bezerk! I stood up, and Coach slammed me with a high five, as we left the meet with sore asses, but still a little pride inside having the final victory.
Anyone else?

My one and only buzzer beater. :)
Well, not exactly BUZZER beating, but read for yourselves... ;)
It was about a couple of years ago. We didn't have a great team, we were about 10 games into the season and 4-6 or something like that.
We get to play this game on the road, at a place named Cergy. The guys over there -- hot heads, very aggressive, kinda violent, but good. Problem was, the referee was a member of their club -- and he blatantly cheated. First half goes on, come half time we're up 15.
Then the second half starts, the guys across us start fouling, and the referee keeps cheating. I remember a particular play, on a free-throw, I'm standing to get the rebound, and the guy next to me just grabs me and tackles me (rugby-style), and the ref says nothing. It wouldn't have been that much of a problem if their point guard didn't start hitting his 3-pointers. Basically, come the last quarter, we're down 3 or 4 points, and my Dad's been kicked out of the gymnasium for yelling at the ref, calling him a "bitch" and trying to throw a bottle at him.
Anyways, come the final minutes we're still down. But the coach (great guy) gives us a little pep talk, switches us to man-to-man defense and puts me on the point guard (I'm not quick, but I'm 6'3"...that'll keep any PG in check). We come back, I hold their PG like my life depends on it, block shots, everything.
There's about 30 to 40 seconds to go, and we're still down 1 point. Then starts garbage time. We get nervous, they get nervous, everybody's shooting bricks for a couple dozen seconds. Then, with a little less than 15 seconds to go, one of their guys fouls one of ours. Free-throws. He scores the first one, we're tied. He misses the second. I jump, grab the rebound just before one of my teammates does, land down, one-dribble spin, fadeaway jump shot, hit it. We're up 2 with a few seconds to go. Guys start celebrating, not realizing the opponents are playing the balls inbounds. Coach yells, we run back to defense, I take the PG, who has the ball and who, I KNOW it, is gonna try a 3. So I just keep my eye on him until he comes up to the three-point line. He shows-off, mocks my defensive stance (I'm always a bit low on my knees), I don't care and just keep an eye on the ball. Then he starts off quick to free himself for a shot, I follow him, he shoots a brick. I grab the rebound, throw a long pass in front to one of my guys to make sure they won't be able to foul me too quick or steal the ball. Buzzer. We won.
Ain't I terrific? :)

Well, most likely my the greatest sports moment in MY life...
Winning the hockey championship in the 5th game. I posted 3 shutouts throughout the whole playoffs. It was the regional area. The best from this township and area, etc. Wow. It was such a great feeling, I couldn't believe it. The closest thing I'll get to holding up the Stanley Cup, so I cherished it. It isn't until you win, when you realize how special it is. Sadly, that was the last great moment in my hockey life. :(
Another great one, kinda silly though :D...
It was about a month ago, when we were gaving a 4 school mini soccer tournament. This was our last game, loosing the other two. It was the second half, we were down 3-1 to start. After that, it went really down hill. 4-1, 5-1. We pulled our goalie, and then our other goalie got injured. We then had to put in a guy that plays goalie for hockey, but wasn't a goalie for the team. At this point, it was getting pretty fucking pathetic. The refs were favouring the other team, and we were pissed. So I said to the guys, "We have like 15 minutes left, we're down 5-1, we have nothing to win. Why don't we just have some badass fun and make it enjoyable." The other guy, my fellow defenseman suggested we play dirty (we were already were, anyway). So, anyway. We actually started to play pretty fucking good! I started to sing a song that my dad always sang, and it was pretty fucking funny. We started to trash talk the other team sooo much. Point is, we walked out with big smiles on our face, while the other team, despite winning, were pissed out of their minds.

My personal greatest moments...
Winning the city basketball championship when I was in the 7th grade. I personally did not do much scoring, I just played some mean D. But hey, it was a team effort, I pitched in. So I was really stoked when we won.
Winning a trophy in a mixed doubles bowling tournament...I earned that one. I was ON that day. And for you bowlers...you know what that means. No gutter balls, the ball went straight where I wanted it to. I had a good day that day.
Winning a gold medal in a 5km x-country skiing race when I was 10...I actually won that one because I was the only person in that age group competing. I could've gone as slowly as I wanted to, but I didn't. And 5 km was still a lot for a 10 yr. old.
And lastly, my biggest triumph from which I didn't really win anything...a 10k running race I completed when I was 19. I started out dead last, was dead last throughout most of the race, and it was very discouraging. I just kept on thinking I really suck, and I don't want to come in dead last. Well, about the last quarter mile or so I got my kick, and I must've passed at least a dozen runners...I didn't come in dead last afterall. I was really, really happy about that. :)

I played softball for years (windmill pitching) and just to let you know I'm a big person but I love playing softball. Our team (all girls team) was in a tounrnament and after the major drinking and drug doing I saw the other night,I deiciced this year (1998) would be my last year.We were playing this team (don't remember the name),there were 2 on and 2 out,I was playing center field out alittle deep cuz these girls could hit.One of the girls hit out to center and it was shallow,so I started running like hell and I slide to catch it.I didn't see it going into my glove but all I heard was one team cheering and the other moaning.I got up and saw my team mates running towards me.I saved a 3-run homerun from happening.I was congradtured by everyone on the other team including their coaches and the umpire.Just acouple of mintues later, the same umpire came over to where our team was sitting and said "Where's that fabouls centerfielder" and he had a metal in his head then he said "I don't care if there not giving out metals today, you deserve it because that was the play of the tournament."I got a metal the day before for 3 RBIs and not letting a ball out of the infield (I was third base).I thought that wasn't for a team since half of them were stoned and hungover that was for me.Even the fat girl gets her moment. And I haven't played softball since, which I've regretted ever since.

My greatest sports moment was this year, my junior year in high school, in soccer.
We were in the regional semifinals of the state playoffs and we were tied 2-2 with the #2 team in state going into a shootout. We had lost to them earlier in the year 1-0 when they were number 1 and we were number 2 (we were current honorable mention in state rankings). Well, the shootout was tied 2-2 after 5 shots so it went into a sudden death shootout where the first team to score w/out the other one scoring wins. Well, I was the 8th shooter and the person from the other team before me missed so if i made it then we would win...and I did.
Our team went on to win the state chamionship 3 games later.

Some would often question that mentality just by viewing them on site. All tall, muscular, pale with jet black hair.
I swear they were all fucking prototypes.

Mine didn't come from myself, though I made some spectacular plays in adult flag football.
My personal greatest moment was coaching my step-son's basketball team to a 10-0 record, and watching all the kids faces as during the last game, there was a concerted effort made to have the 7 year old girl, who hadn't been able to make a basket all year, finally get one. And I didn't have to ask for it. My kids wanted it as badly as I did.
She might have only scored two points all season, but she was the happiest little girl in te world.
And a mean little defender.

My greatest sports moment: playing walleyball in Phy Ed junior year of high school, getting most of the points to start off with, rotating until I got my turn again, then picked up the remainder of the points to win the game. I rule!

When I was in Jr.High, I played football for one season. I was one of the younger guys on the team, and I relaly didn't know much about football. In fact up until then I'd one watched like one football game in my life. I had one thing going for me, I was a big kid.
After trying a few things, I ended up playing nose tackle on defense. During our last game we were going up against a tough team. We didn't win, and I didn't sack the QB, but I made some good tackles, and that was good enough for me.
The first sport I was really any good at was hockey. We played in gym class, and because I was the big guy, and couldn't run fast, I got stuck as goalie. I eventually got pretty good, and my senior year, I'd managed to have a few shut outs. Too bad schools around here never had a hockey season.

My senior year of high school football, in the season opener.
My team has the ball. I know we are pinned deep in our end of the field by a punt. I played center. So i grabbed the ball to snap it, looked down the line, and there's the fucking pylon! I knew we were pinned deep, but I didn't realize the ball was two inches from the goal line!
So, we are losing 19-12 with a couple minutes left in the 4th quarter, and we have to drive 99 and 9/10 yards to score. I snap the ball, and it is a QB bootleg, and after barely avoiding a sack and safety, (which would have definately cost us the game) our QB passes for about a 30 yd gain, which gets us out of the shadow of the goal posts.
We begin to drive it down the field, converting twice on fourth down. With very little time remaining, we complete a pass to our wide out who makes a great move and skirts down the side line for the score. BUT WAIT...
away from the play, not even close to it, our dumbass running back makes a block in the back, and the score is called back. The very next playwe throw a deep post, and the receiver makes a great move, breaks a tackle and scores! The score is 19-18.
Coach calls a time-out. We huddle on the sideline. Coach asks us if we want to go for the win or the tie. Being one of the only seniors on he team, and our team captain, I said, "Coach, we've come this far, lets go a few more yards for the win." So we call a QB waggle, which is a bootleg that gives the QB the option to run or pass.
We line up, I snap the ball, (and get a good block), and the QB runs it to the corner toward the pylon, and dives into the endzone, barely making it. We win our season opener 20-19, after trailing 19-6 late in the fourth quarter, and driving the entire length of the field in the final minutes, because we had balls to go for the win instead of the tie. I'll never forget it.
As a side note, another proud moment came when I coach my junior girls powder puff football team to a double overtime victory over the seniors. We were the first junior team to win in my school's history. We had the chance to be the first to ever win two years in a row, but we got blown out 35-7 my senior year (we had a different defensive coordinator). We started a trend. The juniors have won every year since then (about six years). Plus, is was just awesome seeing sexy girls playing football.
It was especially fun teaching the QBs how to take a snap from center. :D

It was during the championship game of my final year of rec league basketball. There was .6 seconds on the clock and my team had the ball for an in bounds play at half court. Another dude on the team set the shot up perfectly for me by giving me a one hop pass at half court. I caught the ball in mid bounce and put up the shot, and I swear to god that ball didn't touch a bit of rim, it went right through the hoop and put us up by two at half time. The best part about that shot though was the fact that after I made it there was still .1 seconds left on the clock, it was beautiful. My second best momnet came later in that same game. I got fouled with 10 seconds left and my team was only up by one , I made both of my foul shots to put us up by three which then forced the other team to have to make a three pointer to get to over time. They never got the shot off and my team won the only championship that I had ever won in any sport.

Prooving to the coach that I was the best goaly around when he thought I couldn't handle it. Made it all worth while to teach the teacher. Of course he didn't know much about Soccer anyway. I still prefer Rugby though.

Junior year on the golf team (yup) I beat out our best player (he shoots like 10+ shots better than me on average) by one shot to win the All Tournament Team selection for our team (and got a nifty trophy). Any sports I ever played I was always overshadowed by 5+ other guys so that was my only trophy.

For me, it was scoring a hat trick my senior year in high school on the soccer team during conference finals to win the game and the conference title....scored on a penalty early, then we were down 2-1 and I scored on a free kick from just outside of the box that went off the crossbar and in with about 10 mins. to go. We go to Golden Goal OT and about 3 mins. in we've got possession just outside of the opposing team's penalty area...guy takes a shot and it gets deflected into the air....well I timed it perfectly and run full on at it...cracked a half volley and it ripped the upper 90 and we won 3-2. I said fuck it, ripped off my jersey and ran right over to where all of our fans where at and dove into them along with the rest of the team, it was crazy. I'd say that and my first hole in one in golf and the lone time I bowled 300 are my sporting highlights.

My sophmore year of High School,I played Tightend and Linebacker on the football team as a line backer I came on a blitz and sacked the QB he fumbled the ball and one of my team mates picked up the ball and returned it for a TD it later turned out to be the game winner as we won the state championship game.
Senior year of High School I had a hat trick in an 5-2 win that sent us to the state playoffs for the first time,we lost in the quarterfinals.

in opo warner football we won two straight championships, but MYY moment was in the second championship game.
i played for the Coyote Creek Wildcats (as a defensive lineman) against the Willow Glen Rams. We were winning by six points, and the last play was up. WG had an awesome qb who kept evading us all game. this would be the last play, so they began latteraling it. the qb got it back and he juked two of our guys. they were about 40 yrds away, and the qb was running down a crowded sideline up until the 15 yard line. i dove over a teammate and tackled the qb out of bounds to clinch the championship. it was great:)

My senior year of high school, I scored 42 points in a basketball game. It was Hoosier's style. Our point guard was the coach's son, and was being a baby. The coach yanked him and left us with 4 players on the court. So, I just started jacking up shots. Couldn't miss. Best sports moment of my life.

I played softball for a large portion of my adolescence, and many times I would hit the winning run at the end of the game. I was always a really good hitter. Horrible fielder though. They'd stick me out in left field where I could do the least amount of damage.
I used to be quite the athletic child. Now my biggest exercise is lifting the remote control to flip the channel.

I once fouled out of junior varsity basketball game in like 5 minutes of playing time.
I played against Kemp Rasmussen of the Super Bowl losing Carolina Panthers in high school.
A bit of a bump here...as I detail my first ice hockey goal ever(junior league hockey-style):
Well, the line breaks down like this:
Center: Zeke
Left Wing: Kristi
Right Wing: Me
Defense: John and Luke
Zeke gets the puck in the zone. Me and him immediately collapse on it, fighting with the D to get it loose. It goes to Kristi along the boards, Zeke goes over to help her. I set up in front of the net. Kristi sends it back to Luke on the point, who shoots it towards the net. It hits the wing covering him, Zeke, and the defenseman supposed to be covering me, and bounces through the zone towards me. Banking on the fact that I'm screening the goaltender, I don't get fancy with it, I just pivot in place and sweep the puck towards the net very fast, and what do you know? Right through the 5-hole.
A great moment in the life of a hockey player: The first goal.

My eighth grade year, I threw a no hitter and a one hitter back to back to help our team win the city title. I would have had 2 no hitters, but the coach had to play everyone and put this fat ass in right field. The slow ass let one drop right in front of him. Should have caught it. I also struck out 22 in the 2 games.
Now my claim to fame would be actually hit a drive in the fairway.

I regularly go to my university's rec center to play pick-up basketball. As I'm due to graduate in a couple of months, I've developed a rather nasty case of senioritis, and I've been going more and more frequently in favor of dong more responsible things like working on papers or presentations.
It's pretty common for a member of our school's basketball team to come and play once in a while (I'm sure it's totally against the rules for them to play... injury liabilities and all), and they usually torch everyone else. Usually it's a walk-on, or one of the lesser players.
This past week, Ryan Harp, a starter, came by. He's our team's lock-down defender, and is super-athletic and amazingly talented. So we shoot for teams, have our 5 on 5, and the teams are a mismatch to say the least (it's me and 4 super-short dudes against Harp, a walk-on, and 3 average players). Since it's just a pick-up game, we play man-to-man. I'm guarding Harp, he's guarding me. Harp gets a couple of dazzling dunks in, and even a 3, but I matched him in points, even though he was guarding me. . We ended up losing, as expected, but it was very close.... 14-16 (first to 15, win by 2).
When I say he's our school's lock-down defender, I mean it. When we played Memphis last season, he was set to guard Derrick Rose (yeah, that Derrick Rose... number 1 overall draft pick for the Bulls). I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard he held Rose to his lowest score all season. Here he is in action against Rose...
http://photos-e.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v198/93/81/528707646/n528707646_460220_1570.jpg
So yeah, by proxy, I could probably hold my own against Derrick Rose.
Or maybe not...
