Good topic, but there's too many. Pretty much every Laker since 1980. Lots of Dodgers. Chick Hearn.
Hell, mostly every important Southern California athlete.

None yet. But a couple people who attend my parents church are good friends with Cubs 3rd baseman Mark Bellhorn because they met while doing missionary work in Bolivia, and the people said that their gonna try everything possible for me to meet him, because they know how big of a Cubs fan I am.

If the Sens count as sports stars then, yes.
I also met Curtis Joesph will at Wonderland. It was his final week living in Toronto until he moved to Detroit. It was funny too, I was wearing my Leaf jersey.

I've met mostly local sports figures
Dolphins: I've met Dan Marino (he came to my boss' house COOL), O.J. Mcduffie, Ricky Williams, Todd Wade, Patric Surtain, Sam Madison. One of my high school counselors was on the 1972 undefeated team..he showed me the Super Bowl ring.
Marlins: Everyone from the '93 season and most of the players from the '97 World Series team
Heat: Met Alonzo Mourning at a Subway once. When I was working at Mrs. Fields cookies Tim Hardaway came in and started bitching about the price of our Icees. Dumbass made millions and here he was bitching about a $3 Icee
Met a few people when I was working at Mrs. Fields cookies..The Rock came in and bought a cookie cake with a picture of him and his mother on it (awwwww :p ) My favorite was meeting O.J. Simpson on Christmas Eve 2000. I told the girl in the back who was washing dishes to "Hide the knives!!" He tried to make small talk with me, he said "Wow the mall is pretty quiet today" so I replied "Yeah its pretty quiet..you could get away with murder" :D He didn't catch on...he wasn't very bright. Now that I look back on it..DAMN I had some balls...I'm lucky to still be alive!

I met John Paxson and Horace Grant at a basketball camp when I was younger. I got to run defensive drills with Paxson. Fun stuff.
I have a second cousin who is a third string QB for the Rams. Paul Justin. He has been a backup his whole career, though he did start 4 games one year with the Colts. But he has a Super Bowl ring with the Rams, so thats pretty cool.

Super Bowl ring, financially set for life I'm sure, physically healthy, yeah he's done all right for himself.:D Sitting behind Manning and Warner is such a bad gig, huh?

WAYNE GREZTKY. Thats right, the great one himself! And it was at a baseball game!
I live in South Florida, and thats where they hold MLB spring training. I was standing behind the visitor (Orioles) dugout, trying to get some autographs before the game. When low and behold, who is sitting in the box seats right next to me? Wayne frickin' Gretzky! I wasnt actually the first to notice, a kid next to me pointed it out in a whisper (thankfully.) He was wearing sunglasses and the whole bit to try and stay unnoticed. After a few people (including me) got his autograph on a baseball, a crowd gathered and I think he got some more exclusive seats. The next day it was even in the paper, he was supposedly there because he was friends with Cal Ripken Jr. (this was 2 years ago.)

I've met Luther Ellis of the Detroit Lions. He was a total asshole! He actually asked us if we wanted his autograph and then asked us to say please first.
I also once bumped into Robert "Tractor" Traylor at a Michigan Football game. Needless to say I was more than a little toasted after a morning of tailgating and didn't even realize who it was until we were past him aways.

I used to work as a TV sports reporter so I have had a chance to meet quite a few people
The biggest and best ever was Michael Jordan. That was a rush.
From the Carolina Panthers (NFL)- Kerry Collins (drunken days), Kevin Green, Wesley Walls, Steve Beurlien (sp), and a bunch of other guys there.
Hornets- Larry Johnson (he was a real jerk), Zo, Mugsy Bogues, Del Curry...ect.
Dean Smith, former coahc of UNC. He has the biggest nose on the face of the earth.
That's just a few.
Oh Yeah Derek Jeter while he was with the Columbus Clippers. I interviewed him after the game. He actually walked out of the locker room with not one, but two women.

I served Randall Cunningham an ice cream cone when I was working at Friendly's in high school. I heard he lived in the area (Moorestown, NJ), but since I didn't follow the Eagles (or any football), I didn't know what he looked like. Later on my shift a waitress told me who it was. Oops. I never gave him a second look while serving him; I wonder if he was offended.

I met Grant Hill on an airplane back when he played for the pistons. It was on a flight from Detroit to Raleigh-Durham (where he went to college). He was very nice, but he slept most of the way, so I didn't get to really talked to him. I did sit right behind him though.

I once saw Bo Jackson at a Bally's Health Club. I nodded to him and he nodded back. I didnt talk to him, I figured he wanted privacy.
But my big story of today is: TODAY I FLIPPED BURGERS FOR MICHAEL JORDANS MOTHER!!!(ok, so its not that big of a deal, but below is the story)
Yep, I work at a banquet hall in Brookfield Zoo. Sometimes we do picnics, and I grill outside.
So today I get to work, and I hear people saying local news vans are going to be at my picnic area.
Turns out that the party being held is "The James Jordan Foundation". The party was for 80 people, little kids.
Then I hear that that there was a 10% chance even Michael Jordan himself was gonna be there. I was pretty excited. Its a private party of only 80 people, so I figured I would have a chance to actually talk to him, or at least get an autograph.
While I was working, one of my supervisors came by and said "Well I just talked to Mrs. Jordan. We are now good friends"
I thought she was joking. Obviously she was joking about being good friends, but I thought she was joking about his mother even being there. So I just laughed.
I found out later that she was actually there at that moment. If I
Had taken my supervisor seriously, I could have gone up and talked to her. There was noone else around except for me,
Jordans mom, and about 4 other workers at that time.
Then the kids come, and Jordans mother is too busy for us to go and talk to her. Jordan never came either, but he did leave a video with a message congratulating the kids for getting good grades. The TV news vans never came by either
I did see Jordans mom eating a hamburger, and I was the only one who grilled hamburgers today. I also overheard her say " MMhmm! That IS a tasty burger!"
So anyway, I now consider myself a good friend of the Jordan family. A big" in your face" to all the people who said I was going to end up flipping burgers the rest of my life with no reward.

Just about every single guy who played for the Atlanta Braves between 1990 and 1995.
A few Boston area athletes as well.

I almost forgot. I met Sean Rooks last weekend at an exclusive resort in Palm Springs.
He was THE COOLEST athlete I've met. I didn't fawn. I just noticed him behind me on the stairs, and shook his hand.
He then proceeded to ask me about me and my girlfriend. Were we on vacation. Had we just got done shopping. How we liked the place, etc. Just a normal, decent guy. More interested in what we were doing than I was in him.
I guess he'll be playing in NO this year. I wish him luck.

I met pro golfer Karrie Webb in a Melbourne restaurant. She's a shy and surly one who prefers own-gender company, so my 'dykes on spikes' gag didn't...erm...go down to well! ;)
I also met San Diego punter, Aussie Darren Bennett. You know, the only punter good enough to be able to consistently tackle punt-returners? Pro-bowl punter? He's a former Aussie Rules star, and I had a beer with him when he was over here last. He's a top bloke with some great stories. I didn't pay for one drink. Fucking Legend!

I've met soccer legend PELE. It was only for a brief moment at a charity game.. he shook my hand.
Also, at a tennis tournament, I spoke with Jim Courier, Stefan Edberg and Goran Ivanisevic. I was most excited about meeting Edberg. He is one of the coolest people on the planet and an amazing athlete and a hero of mine.

John LeClair once stopped me from walking into a woman's bathroom in some dinky bar here in Montreal (when he was still playing with the Habs) Needless to say, I was a little tipsy heading over to the bathrooms and I remember this giant hand grabbing my shoulder and saying "That's not it." I said "thanks" back to him and then pissed right next to him at the urinals, while making small talk. It's only after I got back to my buddies that I realized who he was. He was there with some other habs...
Oh yeah, on another night altogether, one of my "friends" got his ass kicked by Shayne Corson for making fun of Russ Courtnall. My "friend" was an asshole anyway and had it coming. It was a great night.

I will "accidentally" meet David Wells someday, since he reveals in his book exactly where he likes to hang out after games...
Now, should I also stake out Trump Tower to "accidently" run into Derek Jeter?

Oh I forgot to mention-- I also met Hulk Hogan :D Don't know if that really counts as a sports star, but hey. He is a big huge red-colored jolly guy.
When working at a grocery store in high school, Neil Smith of the Denver broncos was a regular shopper. I merely made eye contact. He was always on his cell phone. This cell phone was protecting him from the onslaought of admirers who want to say hi. I don't think he's a dick for ignoring everyone, just shy and private. And he really wasn't that big a star we thought he was at the time. I bet most of who reads this is thinking, who the hell is neil Smith?.

Shit, I can't believe I've forgotten about this. This is actually before he started playing in the NFL, but I worked with Mark Bruener (now a TE for the Steelers) one summer back when we were still college kids at the U of W. We painted the bleachers at Husky Stadium. Wonder if he still remembers that job from hell. I still have nightmares about it. ;)

I saw three New York Rangers walking down the street last night (they're playing the Canadiens tonight).
I recognized one of them as they passed by me quickly, it was ex-Hab Martin Rucinsky. Okay, so I didn't actually meet them, but it was a sighting. :p

I've met more than a few footballers.
David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Lee Sharpe, Sir Alex Ferguson - they presented an award to us for winning an invited only tournament that Manchester United throw once a year for the young lads training with professional clubs. Still have the programme we were presented with and I look goofy as hell shaking hands with the legendary Alex Ferguson.
Added to this, I have trained, played with or played against:
Jackie MacNamara - Celtic & Scotland International
Stevie Crawford - Dunfermline & Scotland International
David Hannah - No idea whohe plays for now, but was a Scotland international. I know a scandalous story about him and it involves...can't say, but it's true because we all chipped in money for it to happen.
Lee & Jason Dair - I was actually Lee Dair's captain when we played for Fife Region, Dunfermline Region and a local boys team.
Greig Shields - My nemesis. He was captain of the OTHER local High School. We then trained at Dundee FC, but he joined Rangers, then Dunfermline, then went to the English football leagues.
I have also met, just in passing at football or events, Paul McStay, Terry Butcher, Henrik Larsson, Ally McCoist, Jorge Cadete, Jimmy nicholl, David Hay...oh, it's endless. Loads. And being that my Grandfather was - before dying of cancer - the General Manager of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club (Scottish Premier League), more than a few names that would ring bells to the Scottish Schmoes here on the boards.
