Next Week's Box Office Predictions

What are do you you Schmoes think next week's top 5 will be? My predictions are below

1. Planet Of The Apes 42 million
2. Rush Hour 2 35 million
3. The Princess Diaries 21 million
4. Jurassic Park 3 15 millon

And down at number 9 with 2 million will be "Original Sin".

"Ghost World" will probably raise about 30% in more theatres and so will the great "Made".

I think The Princess Diaries will be a surprise hit. The "G" rating will help it and it should prove to be the top choice for families to see, I smell a hit... I don't see Original Sin being a HUGE hit, but I think it should do fairly well. And Angelina Jolie will be the major reason it will make money. People just seem to like her, plus she's still riding off the success of the crappy Tomb Raider. Original Sin won't be a big hit, but it should do ok... And of course Rush Hour 2 will be a hit, it should make somewhere in the area of 29 or 30 million...

C'mon guys? Planet of The Apes?

Fuck no... it wasn't that great and word will catch on. Rush Hour 2, while not my pick will make the number one spot. Princess Diaries isn't advertised enough so they'll sink...

PLANET OF THE APES will suffer a 50% drop. Another 40-50% drop for both JP3 and AMERICA'S SWEETHEARTS. I think the interest for RUSH HOUR 2 is really high and should propel it to the #1 spot. Scathing reviews, general lack of interest and the horrible memory of TOMB RAIDER should sink ORIGINAL SIN. PRINCESS DIARIES will take away some of LEGALLY BLONDE's audience but not enough to give it a blockbuster opening weekend push. Although with the Disney logo on the ads and Julie Andrews closet fans waiting to de-lurk, I wouldn't be surprised if it opens big. Nevertheless, here are my fearless predictions.

RUSH HOUR 2 - $40 mil.
PLANET OF THE APES - $35 mil.
JURASSIC PARK 3 - $11 mil.
THE PRINCESS DIARIES - $10.5
AMERICA'S SWEETHEARTS - $8 mil.
ORIGINAL SIN - $7 mil.
LEGALLY BLONDE - $6.2 MIL.
THE SCORE - $5.2 mil.
CATS AND DOGS - $3.2 mil.
DR. DOLITTLE 2 - $2.9 mil.

RUSH HOUR 2 seems on track to make $65 mil. for the weekend, twice what the original made in its opening weekend and $25 mil. more than my pediction. And it looks like a bigger drop for PotA than anticipated. With a mere $8.36 Friday take, it should only haul around $25 mil. at best, a whopping 63% drop. It was wishful thinking on my part to predict that THE PRINCESS DIARIES would only gross $10.5 mil.. It looks to top out at around $25 mil.. Never underestimate the power of Disney crap. Of the new releases, ORIGINAL SIN is the predictable loser (it should match my guesstimate of $7 mil..).

I just still can't believe that Rush Hour 2 made almost as much as Planet Of The Apes did it's opening weekend!
