If a movie you like doesn't see theaters or worse not even a stinking video release,or worse a premere on the USA net work, cause you to seek out the bootleg or do you wait to throw down 6.50 when it finally hits the Cinema?

I'll buy the boot if I don't think it's going to be available domestically for a while. It is my policy to purchase the domestic as soon as it becomes available though. I want to support these companies who put out good stuff, but if they don't want to take my money by providing a release I can use, then I'll circumvent that.

I completely agree with Donnie. Take House of 1000 Corpses for example. I would have gladly shelled out my hard earned cash to see this in theatres (If I liked it alot, maybe more than once). But due to the limited release, I wont get a chance to see it till it comes out on DVD, which could be a long time.
I am waiting for a copy of this movie right now, but I can assure you, I will more tham likely buy the DVD when it hits shelves, if only for a high quality image and hopefully an uncut version

$6.50? Damn... I WISH the movies were that cheap!! $12.50 here... and that's why I just download everything, or wait til DVD release.
I don't feel bad about it in the least. The actors are already paid... the directors are already paid... the studios will still make money... if not, fuck'm... greedy bastards anyway... shit, actors too... fucking demanding 10-20million a picture? Fuck you dickheads... BOOT BOOT BOOT BOOT!!!
FIGHT THE POWER!!!! :D Damn... I sound like a hippie... oops. :p

Um, sorry to get off the subject, but just like any other type of person here, that's a bit unnessicary (Spelling?). I just so happen to BE an actor. (Not any big films but still, I'm 15, and hope to be in big films one day) I know you were probably kidding, but if you were, at least make it clear... thanks!

Maybe its just me, but I dont believe you are a true horror fan if you download the films and not go see them. You arent supportig the cause. I just am totally against downloading movies if you dont see them in theatres. Maybe its just because I believe in actually supporting something I love.

I agree. Downloading new movies is just not right. Think of it this way. If everyone downloaded it, there would be no more horror because the ones out would make no money. So you are really only hurting the whole genre. If you are planning on downloading because you cant see it (something like House of 1000 Corpses), but still plan on at least renting it when it comes out at some point, I can understand that more.
Now, there are certain boots I have watched, but only for uncut movies or something I may never see.
Halloween 6 Producers cut
Fridays the 13ths uncut
etc.
Movies that have already made their money. It wont hurt their box office because theie box office days are over. Movies that they refuse to release uncut. Since the studios refuse to listen to the fans who helped make these movies.
I have personally never downloaded a movie. Why? Because it is illegal and the movie studios are now inventing filters that will be able to track your email account and home address when you do it.
Good luck if you get caught. They will make an example out of you. Expect to pay a shit load of fines and possibly even get jail time if your caught in this day and age. Hollywood is being more vicious against bootlegers than ever and are setting examples.
One of the owners of a downloading movie site recently got 4 years in prison and $150,000 in fines.
Is that really worth saving $6??? I dont think so...

Same here on the downloading thing.I had friends who were gonna DL Jason X for me,but I would rather spend the cash to see the damm movie, and support the horror genre.
6.50 is for the 1st show Donnie_Darko.But there are always the $2 theaters.

I'll deff hit up a dub, or p2p if it's something out of reach and never gonna be available or is out-of-print and really expensive to buy without seeing first, for example Salo120 Days of Sodom.
I don't have the patience to wait 5 yrs for DVD's or Re-Releases or Video Releases. Escpecially for horror/indie films in release limbo. I usually buy the commercial version anyway's, if the films any good, so I'm supporting the cause and spreading word-of-mouth by seeing something before somebody else has.

I bought a Mayalsian VCD of Ring a year before the remake came out. I bought the DVD the day it came out.
I downloaded Ring 2 and 0, because I believe Dreamworks will release those some day and don't want to have two DVD versions of those films.

I despise bootlegs - I know it's hard waiting for a film to arrive on VHS or DVD, but buying bootlegs or downloading movies just feeds the parasites doing the copying. It isn't worth it...Patience is a virtue.

Patience is perhaps a virtue but my pockets just ain't as deep as my appetite for movies. I spend a shitload of money on legit DVDs but I also buy bootlegs quite often from Ebay. Many of the movies I have as bootlegs simply won't be available in the UK in the forseeable future (or ever in the case of some titles). If I wasn't buying bootlegs then I would have to put up with censored versions of Ichi The Killer and Fudoh both by Takashi Miike of Audition fame. That's just two examples of why it sometimes makes more sense to buy bootlegs. I understand your stance on this but can I ask you if you own any copies of music CDs? Any copied computer games? If not then fair enough. If you do though then I honestly don't really see the difference between that and owning a bunch of bootleg movies.

My pockets aren't too deep either, but there is always a way of obtaining films legitimately. Both those films you named are both available uncut with english subtitles from Japan (I have the website address if you want it).
And no, I don't own any copies of music CDs or computer games - I have made copies of my music CDs to play in the car, but that's legit as I own the CD.

I understand what you are saying. I do buy movies legitimately. A lot of them. I have a collection of original DVDs numbering almost 200 titles. I've only owned a DVD player for a year and a half so please understand that I do spend a shitload of money on originals. As for the two movies you mentioned being available in Japan. Yes...I know. I'd love to be able to afford to buy every movie I want to see. Unfortunately that just isn't possible and the cost of original Japanese DVDs just makes it a lot more difficult. I'm not trying to argue that what I am doing by buying bootlegs is right. All i'm saying is that there's worse than me out there. There are dudes who would never even think about splashing out cash on a legit DVD.

If the companies who released these movies in other regions than your own wanted your money, then they would release it in region free format. I buy boots because they obviously don't want my money, and I'm not going to sit around waiting to see if they someday decide they want to release it in my area. I bought a boot of Versus. Now that they are releasing a region 1 version of it though, I'll be buying that as well.
In other words, when the company wants to help me, I'll help them.

I watched a bootleg of "Resident Evil" because the suspence was killing me and I couldn't wait another year for it!
Also, I just bought a "The Ring" bootleg for £6.50 because I couldn't wait for that either. :D
If I can't wait AT ALL for a film (Only a few films do this to me) then I get a bootleg. I'll be getting a bootleg of TCM Remake once it hits the theatres in USA. ;)

$2 theater? Not around here. The cheapest place in my town is $4.50, and it's a 30min, $2bus ride away... $4 both ways, $8.50 total... and they only play movies that are in their 2nd month run, and by then, I've already downloaded them if I wanna see'm. The average price here is $10, and no matter where they play, since I don't drive, it's bus, so tack on another $4 just to get there and back. Now we're up to $14 average... that's just not worth it... not to me.
I download movies, and I'm not afraid to admit it. My "FIGHT THE POWER" comment was just a smartass joke, but I also won't bend to the will of theater companies that insist on charging REDICULOUS prices. I went to the show ALL the time, when the price was under $8, but within the span of 6 months, it jumped to $12... and that's just wrong. They'll prolly put it off as a "nessessity" due to "pirating"... which is bull. I've seen the weekend grosses, and the industry is NOT hurting.
As for downloading being "illegal'? Nope... they can't touch you if you only download. If you try to distribute in ANY way, even if it's as simple as posting information on where to get said bootlegs, they'll come after you like the Nazi Gestapo they are. They can't nail you for owning a single copy of a "copyrighted movie", anymore then the RAA can nail you for owning MP3s. Now, if they come to your house, and you've got 20 CDrs of Identity with color labels, then they might have presidence for charges... cause who needs 20CDrs of one movie?
I have NO problem dropping $20-$40 on a DVD, but I can't bring myself to toss away $12 to sit in a theater, with a bunch of noisy assholes, trying to enjoy a movie, when in 6 months, I can double my money, and own it.
I download movies, and if they're good, I buy'm in 6months on DVD, so they're still getting money from me if they deserve getting money from me.
I'm an "aspiring" writer, and would love to make a living in the film industry, and they day I rake in money through the business, I'll STILL download movies... why... cause I can.
Oh yea... I'm also a musician, and download MP3s, and if I like the album, I STILL won't buy it (again, the price thing). I haven't bought a CD in 3 years, but have aquired over 100 albums in that same span... hmmm? Guess I'm just a greedy, theiving asshole... and by that account, I'd fit right in in Hollywood!!
Peace!!! :D
