View Full Version : Insult me at Will!!

Okay, here it is. I've brought it up in various threads over the years (three of them, to be exact), but here it is: In My Opinion, these are the three worst films ever made:

1. Dead Poets Society
2. The Shawshank Redemption
3. Hedwig and the Angry Inch

1 & 2 are the two most cliched films I've ever seen in my life. They gather bits and pieces from better films and then homogenize them so they're easy to swallow. These two films encapsulate what's wrong with Hollywood nowadays.

3, on the other hand, is a genuine rip-off of only one other film: The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Unlike TRHPS, though (which I enjoy to a certain extent), HatAI has no inspired or original songs, a laughable plotline, and, worst of all, it takes itself completely seriously. It honestly believes it's an important film, which disgusts me.

Anyway, I figure I'll let you guys get out your anger at me without the risk of a banning in one concise little thread.:D

#1- 4/10

#2- 8/10

#3- 2/10 (Rosie O'Donnal liked it, and I never like the same movies she likes)

i would never insult anyone for movies that they hate or like, but i would say to give shawshank and dead poets another shot. as for hedwig, i love it, but i can see why someone would hate it.

Good god....

That list cut me deep bob.

I love 1 and 3 like children. Part 2 is is slightly overhyped but still an excellent movie in my eyes :)

But thats the beauty of opinions. :)

I agree to two of them. Hedwig and DPS are bad flicks, but Shawshank was a great picture.

1. 5/10
2. 9/10
3. 3/10

Phhht.

"Insult Me At Will" would otherwise be a good name for a film.

I was already planning to pay money to see this one.

Insult you at will? Come on, man, we don't judge here. What are you, an idiot?

Just joking, by the way.

Although I disagree with you about Dead Poets' Society(3.5/4) and Shawshank Redemption(4/4), you're entitled to your own opinions.

Oh, and if you think those are bad, you have to see Plan 9 From Outer Space. It will make you change your definition of bad movies, and will probably thank God for movies like Dead Poets' Society and Shawshank Redemption

Only saw Shawshank (8/10).....Hedwig, I read the plot, and I don't want to see it.

Yea, seriously. I can understand if you think the movies are over-rated and not that great, but the worst you've EVER seen?

Be happy you haven't been dragged to crap like "Stealing Harvard" or "Freddie Got Fingered" then. ;)

P.S. I didn't see Hedwig but I love the other two

bob, I'd watch an Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode before calling those movies the worst ever made.

To each his own. I personally loved 1&2.

I'm with ya on Hedwig. I didnt like it. I don't really think it ripped off Rocky Horror though.

Just curious, what movies do you think were ripped off by Dead Poets and Shawshank?

You dumbass pathetic excuse for a human being. Your nothing but scum. Utter, pathetic, lonely trailer trash scum. How do you live with yourself day to day you sickening waste of life?

Oh, you were being sarcastic. Ummmm, nevermind.

:D ;) (just kiddin buddy)

BTW, I agree, Dead Poets Society is once of the worst films ever. I love Robin Williams but I hated him in this. I feel asleep countless times during the movie. And when I finished watching Dead Poets Society, I wanted to be just that, DEAD. Horrible, horrible film.

Plan 9 is bad, but its also a hell of a lot of fun to watch. For real awfulness I used to turn to Channel 4's (British TV) Exploitika season of movies. Black Candles, The Curious Dr Humpp and House On Bare Mountain (why am I admitting to seeing these?) are truly unwatchably bad.

as for bobs list. I've seen DPS (which i hated, but then i hate Robin Williams) and Shawshank. Shawshank is, i feel, rather overrated but still a great directorial debut and a very good film.

Well, you're wrong @ at least 66% of that list, but...

A. I appreciate that you have the balls to voice an unpopular opinion

B. You provide the rationale behind your distaste. I appreciate that.

C. You're a guy w/ generally good taste, so this lapse won't make up too much of your final grade.

Rock on, brother!

I loved The Shawshank Redemption (10/10) and Dead Poets Society (8/10), haven't seen Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

And by the way....

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT is the shittiest and most fucking pointless film ever! There's no story and the ending was horrible.

I find Eliza Dushku unattractive

I absolutely loathe that cunt Kate Hudson and think she can't act worth shit

George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves are all double threats: UGLY and UNTALENTED

Cameron Diaz is always FUGLY

Kathy Bates and Queen Latifah are amazingly attractive IMO

I HATED South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut with all my heart, I give it a 0/10.

There....now I feel better. :D

WHA WHA WHAT?!?

3, on the other hand, is a genuine rip-off of only one other film: The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Unlike TRHPS, though (which I enjoy to a certain extent), HatAI has no inspired or original songs, a laughable plotline, and, worst of all, it takes itself completely seriously. It honestly believes it's an important film, which disgusts me.

Saying Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a Rocky Horror rip-off is a shallow, unfair observation. Would you care to explain your opinion with some examples? Sure, they both share a flair for rock excess and roots in cult theatre, but the similarities end there. Are you saying that there can only be one rock musical with a sexual minority as its protagonist? Queer characters are all the same? Please defend your statement.

No "inspired" or "original" songs? Did you pay attention to "Origin of Love," or were you too fixated on the (incrediblly moving) animation to bother listening to the lyrics? Why don't you tell us what other songs the dozen in the movie remind you of to think they're not "original"?

To say the story is "laughable" implies an unwillingness to deal with Ms. Hedwig as a real character or her plight as being plausible. For such a unique person, Hedwig is a vessel for universal emotions anybody can relate to - pain, rejection, self-love. Wouldn't you be pissed if somebody ripped of the art you poured your soul into and ripped out that soul to sell out to the MTV crowd? I don't blame Hedwig for stalking Tommy, although I don't necessarily agree with her methods.

Who takes this movie "seriously," anyway? The movie, simply, is a knockout, filled with fabulous eye candy and kickass musical numbers; it bursts with a visual and aural splendor that mainstream Hollywood rarely attempts. Its structure is a marvelous blend of live rock performances, flashbacks, singalongs, animation, humor and drama. Seamlessly edited, it's easy (and delightful!) to follow the storyline despite all the changes in timeframe, style, tempo and emotion. Did all the wicked, self-deprecating humor just fly over your head?

Maybe the movie isn't "important" to you, but it sure means a helluva lot to those not in the heterosexual white male hegemony (like, hmm, Woody Allen, maybe?). Not all movies are made for everybody; surely you know that Allen gets flack for rarely portraying a world outside is hermetically sealed UWS ideal. So stick with Manhattan and Allen's quaint ideals; I'll stay with Hedwig's "Wicked Little Town," which is more "real" than anything Allen's produced in a decade.

And I won't even get myself started on Shawshank. Dead Poets, however, is a mediocre and rather infuriatingly simplistic and false drama made worse by Robin Williams' grating, self-adoring performance. Yuck.

Dead Poets is one of my favorite movies around. 10/10...I find it utterly inspiring (A cliche, I know, but...what a beautiful one)

Shawshank Redemption is another movie I love 9/10...overrated, perhaps, but still, a great movie.

I haven't seen Hedwig and the Angry Inch...not sure how I would feel about it, as I sometimes love insanity in film (Moulin Rouge) and other times, loathe it (Velvet Goldmine, Rocky Horror Picture Show)

Eat shit and die, faggot.

...

Oh, the movies, right.
I didnt care much for them either. Shawshank was the best of the lot (8/10), DPS made me fall asleep (5/10) and Ive never seen the other one. As a matter of fact, I really dont have much of an opinion at all, I just felt like insulting you.

Hey, everybody's got their opinions. Frankly, I loved the first two and I've never seen the third (I don't think I've ever heard of it frankly).

I liked Dead Poets Society & Shawshank Redemption because they're good character driven movies. You just don't see that that often.
Plus Robin Williams and Morgan Freeman kick ass!

bob

Most of you have been very polite in your insults, thank you!

Anyhoo, to address the two big questions:

1. I would rather sit through Plan 9, or any MST3K film, or recently produced crap, than any of these films. I will say that Hedwig is my favorite of the films (0.00001/10), because it doesn't fall back on Hollywood cliches, and it's not tripe. I'll give you an example of why DPS, in particular, sucks.

(SPOILERS)
The scene where the boy kills himself is the worst scene I've ever watched. The father hears the gunshot, wakes up, and proceeds to run, IN SLOW MOTION, to his son, even making the distorted "NOOOOO!!!" sound. If the film had been made with any degree of competence, they would have cut away right when the father bolted awake

(END SPOILERS)

What I'm saying is, I respect films that at least have the courage to be bad, as opposed to these three, that just try to be so inspiring and uplifting and end up inducing vomit.

Hmm....Now that I think of it, I was really asking for it by stating my love of Woody Allen over and over and then insulting two of the most loved films on this board (Hed and TSR), wasn't I?:p

Sad man

1.8/10(Not THAT good, but a very good movie.)

2.7/10(Very overrated!)

3.8/10(It´s not a rip-off of Rocky´s Horror, It has nothing to do with it.And the lyrics are all original, from the broadway play, done by the same people. But I can understand why lots of people didn´t like it.I thought It was more like VELVET GOLDMINE than Rocky´s Horror.)

You have some serious balls starting a thread insulting three of the finest movies ever given to us undeserving vagrants treading this wasteful planet called earth. You should have your balls shoved down your throat, and your penis stuck in your ear. Other then that have a great day.

Seriously....I loved Shawshank...DPS was boring as hell and I have no inclination to see the last. I could list three movies and you would probably say to yourself...man your an idiot. I am...and proudly admit. No shame in that buddy

Mine too.

Dead Poets was an alright film. Average. Robin Williams turns in a perfect performance. 6/10

Shawshank is one of the best films ever. 10/10

Havent seen the third.

Ill continue where Hannibal left off.

I hate Eminem. I wanna take out a chainsaw and gut all those cock sucking bitches at school who say he's hot.

I loathe 2001: A Space Odyssey and West Side Story with an utmost passion. They both suck.

I think Christina Gaguilera should be choked with a belt and gutted in a similar fasion to that as performed by Ed Gein.

Charles Manson is a good singer.

I enjoy music by Vanilla Ice and Simon and Garfunkel.

I really dug Sound of Music.

Taxi Driver was mediocre.

I hate Saturday Night Fever.

I hate Scarface

Rosie O'Donnell should burn in cunt sucking hell

Rupert Grint and Dan Radcliffe need to die.

Pamela Anderson ain't that hot

I thought for a long time DiCaprio was a homo

That nude scene in Titanic made me yawn.

SORRY GUYS NEEDED THAT OFF MY CHEST

I'll continue where Mike Myers left off............

I loathe most child actors with a fiery passion.

I have no problem with De Niro's comedies

I love Barbra Streisand (sue me)

I enjoyed Heartbreakers more than Platoon

Halle Berry deserved that oscar!

Naomi Watts is a tad overrated on these boards

Christian Bale is a bad actor (except for Empire of the Sun)

There, insult me at will! I know it doesn't take a lot of guts to write these things (unlike bob insulting three major films that most people like), but there are quite a couple of times when I have disagreed with schmoes on the above mentioned things.

1. Dammit, I like Who's That Girl, Forever Young and A Night at the Roxbury.

2. Star Wars and The Matrix can bite me.

3. Vin Diesel is a sexy lug whom I'll watch in anything.

4. Queer as Folk is an awful, awful show, yet I can't stop watching it.

5. Outside Schizopolis, I don't care for Steven Soderbergh movies.

6. Keanu Reeves, in the right role, can be effective in a movie. See Permanent Record, Parenthood and Speed.

7. As much as I try, I cannot like Wilco.

8. I've grown weary of the endlessly effusive praise on these boards for Fight Club.

9. Tom Cruise is a really, really good actor.

10. I like the Devil Rays!

Me, Ill go with some more:

Haley Joel Osmont has pissed me off as soon as I saw his little girly face in Forrest Gump.

Hilary Duff and Frankie Muniz need to die,

All the President's Men was well acted, but boring as hell

Close Encounters was Spielberg's worst film.

Faye Dunaway pisses me off

Julie Andrews needs to stop making films. I'm sorry, but after Sound of Music, everything went downhill.

Blair Witch is a terrible film

Ever notice the hate for horror sequals? WELL THERE'S A DAMN REASON!!!! (yes TCM2 I am talking to you)

The line "Run Forrest, Run" makes me laugh for some reason.

The Exorcist DID NOT MAKE ME LAUGH. If you laughed, please kill yourself.

I enjoyed Mafia! thoroughly.

More:

I have never seen 2001: A Space Odyssey

I ENJOYED A Walk to Remember

Haley Joel Osment, other than A.I., is overrated and there are a ton of child actors who are better than him

I don't care what people say about Nicole Kidman having pale skin and small tits, I LIKE HER JUST THE WAY SHE IS!!!!! :D

Julianne Moore is a great actress, but she keeps on winning in polls by a mile when there are a lot of actresses better than her (namely Bette Davis, Vivien Leigh and Ingrid Bergman)

I loathe David Fincher to no end, even if he is a good director

I have no sympathy feelings at ALL for the actors I hate, they can all burn in hell for all I care
