It certainly depends on YOUR taste in horror films. IMO (and many other schmoes), this movie is really good! SUSPENSEFUL! And if Jamie Lee doesn't promp you to see it, I hope at least we can! It's pretty damn good... :D

The Fog is definitely good. Thick atmosphere, solid acting, and a slutty Jamie Lee Curtis! It can drag at times, but overall, it's a must-see for fans of ethereal horror.

Great horror movie but don't expect much gore or nudity.

A classic ghost story , one of Carpenter's best .
They don't make them like this anymore .

I did a review on it recently when I bought the film and watched it for the first time in years. It stands out above most other horror films in many ways.

Atmosphere, you got more here than in any horror film in the last 20 years!

Chill factor? Off the scale!

Great ghosts? Best ever!! Really frightening and well done by Carpenter, the camera crew a fx crew.

You'll love it if you dig real horror.

The Fog is a fantastic film. It has some of the eeriest use of music ever and includes a great performance by Adrienne Barbeau.

Ok let me just go on to say that, every now and then we as horror movie know it alls let a little movie slip by us..you know THAT movie that you know that you as a horror fan should have watched but havent. Such was the case with me and The Fog. I let it slip by me...and how the hell could I have let this happen? This movie Rocks!

Dare I say that its one of Jhon Carpenters BEST, right next to the Thing. Not exagerating. Its right up there with his best stuff.

Now be warned there are virtually no visual FX (except maybe for the fog), almost no gore seen on screen, and he hardly get to see the monsters...but boy can the storytelling grip you! Its the spooky, atmosphere in this film that grabs you by the throat and doesnt let go!

Jhon Carpenter once again, same way he did in The Thing, slowly starts building up the characters and situations to a boiling point...but little by little. What I like about this movie is that it takes its time to establish the characters, it takes it time to explain to us why certain things are happening.

We get good actors in this one too..Tom Atkins (night of the creeps and holloween III) wich is allways a plus; and we also get Jamie Lee Curtis, wich some how no matter how many years have passed by her, still manages to look the same to me! It also stars Adrienne Barbeau the big breasted babe from swamp thing, escape from New york and most recently The Convent, playing a local radio stations jazz dj.

Anyhow I dont wanna spoil it for you, but this movie is really excellent! The town is very spooky, and once the fog steps in, and what comes with it, it gets spookier...the movie has a deep dark secret thats been hidden for a 100 years and know its come back to haunt em! Evil deeds allways have a way of comeing back to you...
thats the message of this movie.

Its a very well crafted ghost story that certainly wont dissapoint! I suggest any schmoes who might have let this awesome classic pass by them to get up from their butts and rent this baby. It roocks!

ps. I saw some cool stuff in the ending credits..for example: special make up fx magician Rob Bottin, plays one of the creatures, you wont see him of course cause hes in make up and whatever..but he was there; and also Tommy Lee Wallace director of Fright Night II colaborated in making this movie. So there.

****MAJOR SPOILERS*****

Can anyone who has seen it sit still during the scene where the ghost pirates break into Adrianne Barbaues(sp?) radio station and pursue her all the way to the top of the tower, and then that iron hook thing starts beating and clawing on the roof trying to get at her?

GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!!!! I can't stand that part!!! Gives me the fucking heebee jeebees every time!!!!

Also, at the beginning of the movie when the fishermen see the ghost ship passing them in the foggy night. What a GREAT scene!!! Fantastic horror atmosphere!!

*****Minor Spoilers******

Yeah I agree with the part with the SeaGrass boat. Very creepy and well done with the fog. If you watch the dvd with the commentary JC says some cool stuff about this part.

I also love it when the Fog rolls up the winding road and up to the awesome looking church leading to the exciting ending

Plus I love any scene with Hal Holbrook in it. That man was a great actor

*******End Spoilers**********

Some other actors of note in this loaded movie of talent were Hal Holbrook, Janet Leigh, John Houseman, Charles Cyphers (was in many JC movies like Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween 1 and 2)
Nancy Loomis (another Carpenter veteran)

The dvd is a must have for any horror fan. It has some awesome features, a great commentary, and such a sharp picture. Just hearing Carpenter talk makes me like him even more, he sounds like a sharp guy.

Its good to know that he improved his dvd commentaries since the one for Big trouble in Little China really sucked a lot!

I love Big Trouble In little China a whole lot, but that commentary UGH! Sucks! Carpenter and Russell talk so much crap that has nothing to do with the movie that it made me angry since I was expecting some insight on one of my favorite flicks...all the did was talk about how badly the film was marketed and about football and beer and...you get my drift.

Oh well Ill be buying The Fog dvd soon...I must make it a part of my collection soon!

This one is almost up there with Halloween. The Fog scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

I really enjoyed the bonus material part on Assault on Precinct 13 where he and an actor from the show interact with the audience.
