I loved it. My best film of the 80's.
The film itself was just magical, this is not a film pointed straight toward kids, adults can enjoy it too. E.T. was truly a memorable character and he will live in my heart always. The ending was more than touching and it's impossible not to get teary towards the end. I give it a 10/10, I consider it a masterpiece and no film has ever brought back so many childhood memories.

One of the finest movies ever.
I love it because it reminds me of a better time. Star Wars figures, BMX's and having fun.
I'll probably get laughed at for this but...The end has me crying like a 25 year old bitch still today even though I've seen the movie about 30 odd times. John Williams' score at the end is spine tingling.
9.5/10 I dont believe any film is perfect...but it is pretty damn close.

One of the best films ever. I think BTT said everything I was going to say, although I don't cry like a bitch when I watch it.

One of Spielberg's best. Many people I know hated this movie though, can't understand why. This was one of the few movies I've cried during (the "I'll be right here" scene still makes me cry whenever I watch it.
But I remember when I first saw it when I was younger, I couldn't figure out why men in space suits were after ET and the kid.

E.T. is on my top ten list of all time. It is an an amazing movie, that just gets better with age. Steven Spielberg is a genius.

You're not alone, man. It's just impossible for me to NOT cry like a 25 year old bitch at the end of the movie. Even to this day, the "I'll be right here" scene still gets me.

Maybe I was the only kid in the world who hated that movie. My parents forced me to see it (maybe that was the reason) and I found it boring as hell. I never liked cuddly friendly aliens.:p

Great movie, I remember when I had the old green plastic VHS tape for it. The special effects and cinematography were way ahead of their time, and the score was incredible. Henry Thomas gave an excellent performance as Elliot. 9/10
The best Spielberg film from the '80's.
One could call the title character the anti-Jar Jar(you know, loveable, not annoying, REAL).
The fact that Spielberg was kind enough(& smart enough) to give us the original version on DVD made me love it even more. Hence, the special edition is now a minor error in judgment.

This movie is an overrated pile of dung. I hated it as a child and damnit, I don't think I'll be seeing it any time soon.

Glad I'm not alone with that, I think its the music really that makes it even more emotional. Henry Thomas' face at the end is priceless.

Great movie, a perfect 10/10, in my opinion the best "family movie" ever. It doesn't make me cry, but it makes me nostalgic and thinking about better and easier times all the time, and of course it makes me dream -- the friendship, the fun, the lights, the magic, the John Williams score...Steven Spielberg at his best, and that's pretty darn fucking good.

Anyone who didn't shed a tear on the death scene the first time they saw it has no heart. I saw it when it first came to the movies - there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Don't yell at me, but I really don't like this movie. No real reason I guess, it just doesn't do anything for me...plus Spielberg had to go and "make it better" last year.

I loved it when it first came out....'course I was only 7 at the time. *g* I saw it again when it was released on DVD, and it's still got some of the magic, a great family movie, but I didn't like it quite well enough to own it.

Buck I can totally let American Beauty slide, but you must NOT fool with E.T.
You'd be kicking my childhood in the gut!:( ;)
I loved E.T. when I was a kid. I'd watch it everyday after school for God knows how long.
I even cried out of nostalgia in certain parts at the re-release. However I will agree Spielberg shouldn't have added the CGI to already perfect scenes. I mean, Jesus! E.T. hauled ASS in the re-release! If he ran like that there was NO WAY he could've missed the spaceship in the beginning

As usual Buck and I seem to agree.
Even as a child of 10 I was not blown away by ET on thebigscreen and all the hoopla that trailed it. I just didnt get the love.
Now its important to note that I was a kid who couldnt watch Pete's Dragon, Bambi, Old Yeller or any number of other weepy classics without breaking down like a little schoolgirl with a skinned knee.
Somehow this one just couldnt form an emotional link with me.
Its also important to note that I saw Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (8.5/10) before ET and had adored that.
The problem that i find with it now is its falsness and over the top sentimentality. Sure its heavy handed in Close Encounters too but it just didnt seem to click in ET.
The effects are ofcourse great but that alone was not enough to sweep me away as a ten year old back in the day.
Not a terrible film but certainly inferior to most appraisals IMO. But hey I obviously in the minority. Didnt mean to rainon anyones parade.

Dont care for the old Star Wars trilogy....couldnt connect with Close Encounters...but E.T remains SOLID GOLD for me; even after all these years. The sfx holds up, the story is great..and the performances of Drew Barrymore and Henry Thomas SOLD me 100% in believing in that dern little alien! :)
Turn on your heart light.... :p

E.T. is one of my favorite films, it has so much heart and you can tell that it was work that meant allot to Steven Spielberg. I can't explain how much I loved E.T. as a kid, it still gets that spot in me today. A perfect 10/10, ****, two thumbs up. It is one of those films where the Music adds a great layer of soul to the story, the collaborative team that brought E.T. is the best in modern storytelling.
E.T. is simply the greatest heart warming film I have ever experienced.

One of Spielberg's weakest for me: Jaws, Indiana, Close Encounters, A.I., Schinder's List, Minority Report = are all better.
E.T. (7/10)
I think ill appreciate it when im older though, for some strange reason it looks like the perfect movie to see when you're older and wish to reminice about the younger days.

I am a bit surprised by those that like Close Encounters. THERE is a movie that doesn't hold up well over time...nor did it connect with me at all.

Wasn't high on it originally. Then for some odd reason I picked up the DVD and watched it... I cried like a frikkin' baby... Great movie. Glad I was dumb enough to waste money on a movie I originally didn't like!

Another reason why Spielberg is my favourite director. E.T. A touching, sweet, brilliant film that had always been a favourite of mine. It has some kind of magical sense to it, and is hard not to like. Being the little girl I am, I too cried my eyes out when I saw it the first, second, and third time. Great, great, movie.

of my 3 top favorites this is one of them, hell i own 5 different copies of it (one...:D i'm so proud, signed by Dee Wallace Stone) i can remember watching it as a kid and i was so envious of that family, it was like they were my own family cuz i watched it so much...sometimes i would get on my bike and pretend i was elliott and have a bag of reese's pieces and scatter them around like him. tho when i saw it in theater when it was re-released...i didn't like the digital E.T. it wasn't workin for me, he looked horribly fake, but eh, it had a few extra scenes...was hopin for more tho, i mean especially with how much the normal dvd and box set cost, but...then again...i woulda paid for it just the same no matter what :D good god i love this movie

wow, if i had to pick one movie that i thought was loved by all, I would have picked this one, but there still are some folks that dont. I love it though **** (out of 4). Really good child acting is the highlight for me, apart from the heart-warming bits.
