Hi. I've noticed recently on this board that a lot of people seem to hate The Sixth Sense. What I can't figure out if its becuase it has inspired all these huge twist ending movies or theres just a general backlash against it like what hapened to Scream or if people just really don't like it.
I persoanlly think its a great movie overall. The dialogue isd so precise. I've watched it again recently and was amazed at how accomplished it was made. I think a lot of people have forgotten that. I think the recent for it has a lot to do with backlash but Im not sure.
What do you guys think?

I loved THE SIXTH SENSE. It's a very good movie, actually not far from being great, with a great twist, fantastic performances by all three leads (Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Colette), and it has the proof of M. Night Shyamalan's great writing and directing talent. Very good movie indeed.

The twist ending wasn't exactly original (or logical, for that matter), but I still dug this flick. Strong performances all around, a despondent atmosphere, and great direction. Shyamalan would only improve with his subsequent spine-tinglers.

No, I loved Unbreakable as well, as do many others.

I liked The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs to a degree. One of my big problems with Shamalan is that he REALLY is trying to be Steven Spielberg, who I'm not that fond of. Also, his dialogue is so unbelievably artificial at times that it's hard to get past. Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs were fun, but nothing special.

I didn't really like this one at all. I guessed the twist ending around 2 minutes into the thing. I found the rest of it to be extreamly boring, same with Unbreakable and I skipped Signs, M Night just doesn't do it for me at all, that's just my opinion though, I do respect everyone elses.
I found Stir Of Echoes to be a much better movie.

i guessed the twist very early on, but even so, i still thought this was an excellent, and creepy (for me anyway....i believe in ghosts and i found this quite accurate in relation to my experiences). yeah, i loved it basically.
so from the looks of things in this thread, you arent alone in your views Chinton :):D

I liked both "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable" quite a bit. I was dreadfully put off by "Signs," though. Shyamalan stated that he made it specifically for the "Denny's crowd" and I wholeheartedly believe it.

I thought The Sixth Sense was a really good movie. I wasnt bored in the least through it, and never had guessed the ending by a mile. Bruce willis and the little kid ( and the mother ) made up a great cast. I thought towards the ending with the kid and his mom in the car having their talk was overdone and lame, but that's about it.
I was dissapointed with Signs but overall it was an alright movie. I didn't like the wrap up at the ending. I appreciate the whole isolation theme going on, showing it just through the eyes of the family, but I would have liked more....something throughout the movie.
Stir of Echoes is fantastic, love that movie. The cast, suspense, hints and clues, ending, all of it.

I was a bit put off by Signs, as well. I thought that it was a good movie, but all the hype kinda ruined it for me. I just didn't find it remotely scary. I dug the faith theme a lot more than the aliens bit (NOT a fan of CGI even though it definetly has its place).

It was both those elements that turned me off; neither makes any sense when you sit down and think about it.

I agree, it is a very good movie but after watching it all the way through it seems kinda pointless after the twist ending unless you watch it to look for any clues, kinda like unbreakable (wait, their both by the same director  , I'm starting to see a trend here) honestly if this director (cant spell his name) keeps making flicks like this he'll fall under the radar since they will become predictable. I'm not even sure i'll bother watching signs, since there's also meant to be a, can you guess it.....TWIST....at the end
well rant over, overall a good flick but not very re-watchable

I loved it - I was fortunate to not know what the twist was before I saw the movie.

It's okay but not nearly as good as most make it out to be

I disagree. I think both movies, especially "Unbreakable" have a lot to offer outside of the final twist.

Also, I'm curious how many people who "figured out" the twist in "The Sixth Sense" were unaware that there even was a twist when they first saw the movie.

No twist in Signs my good man. At least not one that i can remember, although i was half asleep by the end.

Yeah, Signs doesn't contain some huge revelation at the end. Shyamalan didn't want to be pigeonholed as the "twist ending guy."

I really like all of M. Night Shamalamadingdong's movies. He has a really engrossing visual style.
I don't really like twist ending movies because many times the twist is what made the movie good, but with M. Night's movies the atmosphere and camera work really work for me.
I don't think they are great, but they sure are fun
