just saw this film for the first time yesterday, and i just have to say how impressed i am with it. very very good stuff. i clocked it for a pretty average slasher up until half way through, but oh, the last 30 mins had me running scared and double checking the cupboards.

mrs voorhees gave me the willies almost as much as the nanny in The Omen (why no omen reviews here? i love those films....). great twist and a KO ending.

top stuff.

10!

I thought it sucked personally. No Jason and not enough gore. Although Pame V. did kill Kevin Bacon, so thats cool.
For me, 7/10 for Kevin Bacon 0/10

Now... you get the US edit, or the unedited version? Trust me, if you saw lots of blood, you have the unedit... which rocks.

This is the only Friday film i hate. Theres no Jason which mainly matters to me and it seemed a bit boring in places.

hmm not sure, there seemed enough gore to keep us happy. axe in the head, K Bacons throat spurting a fair bit, plenty of throat slicing...

wow, im scared of whats happening to me, liking these things. *chills*

så är det......

Hey rocket, welcome to the boards dude. I too enjoyed the first Friday the 13th movie and wasn't at all bothered that Jason wasn't in much of it, I suppose the chains and series of killings had to start somewhere right? :)

Don't worry yourself rocket, I too scare myself whenever I laugh like a wicked, cunning demon from hell everytime I see an axe in the face. Then I remember, its only a movie :p

I liked F13 1. It was pretty good. I would say 6.5/10. But the next two, IMO were much better.

i actually watched part2 directly after the first one, and found it to be pretty poor in comparison. it *seemed* to be over in an hour, and the end didnt end anything... some nice slow mo stuff, but then it just faded to black (white?) and then to mrs voorhees head on the table. which was admitedly creepy, but i felt short changed.

tho i did jump when he came through the window.

so next is going to be 3 and 4 together. yay!

Okay... all this "Friday the 13th sucks cause Jason wasn't in it" shit is getting old. Obviously anyone who says that, saw part 1 WAY after all the sequels. I know I'm old, but I saw part1 just after it came out, and it's a great horror movie. You've gotta remember, it's a 1981 release. It took chances no other horror genre was taking at the time, and paved the way for SO many straight to video knockoffs... wait, that's NOT a good thing.

Oh yea, and Jason IS in it... didn't anyone see the end? He's just not the killer.... killer... kill her Mommy... kill her!!!

Took you 23 years to see this classic?

I am a fan of Jason but this movie ( the first - one ) was certainly not as good as F13th 6, 4 and 7 ( my favorite - ones )

As you can see I am a big fan of this movie...there is something special about it that I have only found in the first halloween movie...no other horror movies give quite the same feel...i dont think that jason not physically being there was a disappointment, it makes perfect sense for his mother to be the killer in the 1st one...if you watched the later parts before you watched the first one then that would probly explain your disappointment...anyways, this is perhaps the greatest horror flick ever, with only halloween being close...i have seen it like 50 times already, hell i think i will watch it again later tonight...

To me, the Friday flicks are just a fun 90 minutes. Its all the same...Jason's big intro followed by boring dialog, stupid people, a death here a death there, the people who dont believe and the big ending. and I LOVE IT!

Tho I do think the series died at part 9. part 8 wasnt that great but it still had that feel to it. At least Paramount didnt go off and try and create a sibling or a lizard or an uber-J. not that I cant watch parts 9 and 10, but It really lost that "scary campfire" feel to it. but how many of those can you do I guess?

At any rate...part 1, while no classic in my eyes but certainly a legend, is a great story. and parts 2 and 3 were helmed by one of my genre faves....

What does it matter that Jason wasn't the killer in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART ONE? Ir's still a great horror movie and an excellent example of the cheap nasty grittiness that horror movies had in the early eighties. I like most of the FRIDAY sequels but the first one is the only one that scares me. It might not be the goriest one but it's shocking and that more than makes up for any lack of extreme blood.

In fact, strangely - two of my favourite FRIDAY movies were the two that didn't have Jason in them. Because I love a surprise ending - and I always enjoy finding out that the killer isn't who I expect him to be. FRIDAY PART ONE was the first one I saw so I didn't know much about Jason - that meant it was a really good mystery to me - I couldn't figure out who the killer was.

To be honest, it was a bit silly to make a load of sequels with Jason as the killer. But I forgive that because the sequels were a lot of fun. It's just strange how Jason suddenly turned into a killer just in time for the sequels.

The first Friday is the best one of the entire series in my eyes, maybe it hasn't as much action as some of the sequels but its quite a nasty and smart little horror movie. And Mrs.Voorhees just kicks ass, no doubt about that. Next to the Final Chapter this is my favorite Friday flick.
