Which Army o' Darkness ending do you like best?

I picked up the "Official Bootleg" edition of Army of Darkness a bit ago and finally got to see the original ending (the one with the potion - not where Ash ends up back in S-Mart) that Arrow and many people on these boards have talked about. That said, which ending do you guys think fits the film the best. By the way, is it just me or are there like 50 fucking DVD/VHS editions of every Evil Dead flick? Whores!

Personally (and I'm pretty much alone on this one) I prefer the original, post-apoclyptic ending, it just seems to fit in incredibly well in this series, just when you think nothing worse could happen to poor Ash. Bam, he's in a wasteland.

But this is just because I'm not a very happy-go-lucky type person.

Doesnt the new Army of darkness dvd they have out now have TWO different endings on the one disc? Is the endings you are speaking of? The ending I saw was on the DVD bootleg edition but I know longer have it - you know, the break up's of life, so my ex got to keep the evil dead series (grumble). Which ending is the bootleg edition ? I believe it may have been the potion.

How many of you are planning to get the DVD? It's about 17 dollars at Kmart. I was really tempted to get the 2 disc thing but I was planning to spend too much money already.

I prefer the US release ending with the S-Mart. Prolly cause it's what I saw first, but the original Japanese ending is good... just... well... I like the S-Mart stuff... Bridget Fonda rocks!!

Gotta get the new "BoomStick" edition. Don't have it on DVD yet, and my video version only has the orginal Jap ending.

The version which was released in the UK when it came out was the post apocalyptic version so thats the version i saw first and the one i've always thought of as the "proper" ending.It's certainly the ending i prefer but that might be because it's the one i saw first,the other ones quite cool and funny, but i found the "down" ending more surprising and shocking,it stayed with me a lot longer.

Hail to the King Baby! The bad ass funny ending in S-Mart is better in my opinion. The original ending isn't bad but I was happy to see Ash in a happy bad ass cool as ice ending.

I like both endings. The S-mart ending is good but the apocalyptic ending seems better because Ash screwed up and its something Ash would do.

I love AoD but I could not stand the apocalyptic ending. To me, it didn't fit. It was a little TOO much of a downer.

The S Mart ending was off the chain though. LOL I think it fit in very well because even though Ash was a screw up, he was funny as hell, and that ending fit in with that perfectly IMO.

I like the S-Mart ending the best. In fact I would put it down as one of the funniest movie endings ever.

I still laugh out loud at how Ash says, "Come get some".

I love both endings. The original ending fits better but the theatrical one is so groovy!

I like the S-Mart ending better because.

It has Ted Raimi in it as a non-knight and he plays the sarcastic box boy that Ash is telling the story to. "Did you say the words right this time?"

And the obscure 10 bullet shotgun scene is the best. BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM!!!! And then he says the classic line, " Yeah, I could've stayed. I could've even been King. But in my own way, I AM King; Hail to the King baby!"

And it is perfect for fitting in a Evil Dead IV

I like the S-Mart ending a lot better however the Post Apoc ending was supposed to set up a Evil Dead Part 4 as hinted by Raimi in the commentary

Just saw the film for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Being in the uk i saw the apocalypse ending, its pretty cool - kind of reminds of planet of the apes or something but yeah it is a little bit of a downer for what i see as essentially a comedy horror film.
I think i liked the S mart ending best because its funny, some people have already quoted it, the 'yeah i coulda been the king' thing, and then the cheesy kissing the girl at the end. Its a really fun ending.
I think one way to decide how you like it could be to decide if they made an evil dead 4, which ending would you most like it to follow on from? Saying that though, i cant really decide. A more gritty apocalypse setting, or set in a town being overrun by beasties and townspeople fighting for their lives? hmm...

I like the S-Mart ending more than the apocalypse one, for several reasons. One is that it leaves the door open for a possible sequel (if ever). Another is that it allows the video games to be worked into the Evil Dead universe (no matter how bad they may be). Finally, I think that it can be summed up in a couple phrases: "Name's Ash. Housewares." and "Come get some."

That "alternate ending" for Army of Darkness sure sounds kickass! It would have ended the series on the most ironic possible note. But...it just wouldn't be as commercial. We need to leave room open for a fourth Evil Dead film don't we? No matter how unlikely it gets with each passing year.

As it was, the S-Mart ending was still pretty fun.

What makes you think the Post-Apocalyptic ending DOESN'T make way for a sequel?

After all, for all we know between the medieval time and the post-apocalyptic time someone else could have found the tape in the cabin, played it and summoned the Deadites, then failed to stop them as they took over the world.

Maybe the apocalypse was started by the Deadite invasion, and so in Evil Dead 4 Ash has to deal with them in a post-apocalyptic setting, hopefully leading to some nice set-pieces.
