Halloween 1 - micheal kills for kills sake?

halloween 1 - one thing always puzzled me, and im afraid its going to be a stupid question.

why does micheal go for laurie (Curtis)?? is it cause she stepped onto his doorstep, or something else?? i dont see any link between laurie and the myers family, other than they live in the same neighbourhood.

perhaps there just isnt one.

Michael goes after Laurie because she's his sister. This isn't mentioned in the original. It's actually mentioned in the first sequel. So, Michael's not killing for the hell of it, he's constantly going after members of his family. Of course, except for Halloween: Resurrection that is, but that's a whole different story.

While writing Halloween II, however, Hill & Carpenter felt that it needed a twist, so they threw in the Michael/Laurie sibling bit.

I think part of the scare factor for the original Halloween is that Laurie and her friends were so random in who ended up targeted. Or, if I remember right since its been a long time since I've seen the movie, didn't Michael kind of stalk the little boy with the pumpkin in the schoolyard? Maybe Laurie was officially targetted when she showed up to babysit for the kid. The reason I found the movie effective is because the killer showed up in his hometown and just grabbed opportunity when it came--it wasn't so plot-thick with family members that you knew he was going to go after eventually. Any other thoughts out there? Peace...

while filming Halloween 1, I dont think there was any real reason to go after her rather than any other person. But, yes, she did go on his doorstep, but I guess Michael (from the 1st movies standpoint) was just evil that had to kill.

No the little boy just ran into him, and he was randomly walking around the school looking for someone (Laurie and the other teens I believe?)

I dont think they had the intention for Jamie to be Michaels sister till part 2. If they didn't, would they have made 8? I dont think so
