I'm sure some of you have seen the story and photo's of ISU basketball coach Larry Eustachy partying with co-ed's at a frat party in Columbia after the ISU-Missou game last winter. This is inexcusible! A coach has a certain image to uphold, and I don't know how there is any way he can maintain discipline on his team after incidents like this. He's supposed to be a coach and role model to his players, not one of the boys.
I remember an incident in the early '90s where then Michigan football coach Gary Moeller was fired after his drunken antics in an Ann Arbor bar, maybe some Michigan fans can fill in the details for me on this. I don't know what kind of action I would take if I was the ISU admininstration, but this certainly is a black eye on the program, no doubt.
Should he stay or go?

I'd say fire him. First time I read that article, I thought it was a late April fools joke. I can't believe any coach would do something like that.
He is the highest paid state employee in Iowa, at about 1 million a year!
Fire him, it's not like he had a terrific year. NIT, that's awesome ;)

I never though these words would leave my mouth but....
That team was much better off when Tim Floyd was the coach
(If I was a 47 year old man living on a college campus, I would be going to keg parties too)

Yeah, I don't know how there would be any justification for keeping him around. This is not an isolated incident, it apparently has happened before, which is the really sad part.
I could really give a rat's ass about the Cyclones, I'm a Hawk fan, so it really doesn't matter to me.

As was pointed out by Jim Rome's clones yesterday the worst thing about the whole situation is that in spite of the fact that he makes $1 million a year he was drinking Natty Light. WIth his salary he could have at the very least sprung for some Labatts Blue or something.
Gary Moeller ( Papajupe2K...of course I have the dirt on that) got drunk at a rather fancy Ann Arbor restaurant with his wife and ended up getting into it with a cop who was at the restaurant. The restaurant staff tried calming him down, but he was really beligerant saying things like don't you know who I am and all that sort of stuff. Outside the restaurant he got into with some cops on the scene. Supposedly there is some audio or video out there of the incident, but I have never seen it.
I think the situation of his getting fired had as much to do with a couple of 4 loss seasons as the incident itself. It gave them a great excuse to fire him. Not that it was bad thing. Lloyd Carr became head coach and the rest is history.
Maybe at least the clones will stop talking about people getting Moellered now and say something about getting Eustachyed instead.

Gotta feel bad for his wife at the press conference yesterday (or was it the day before?). She has to get up there and publically defend the guy after seeing those pictures of him macking on college girls. I am sure she is kicking his ass really good at home.
I can sympathize with the guy though. I am a very heavy drinker (perhaps too heavy) and alchoholism runs in my family, so I can understand how hard it can be to keep from doing stupid things after getting drunk. This situation actually be a blessing in disguise for him. It may be motivation for him to make better choices the next time he is wandering around all liquered up. I know that the only way I seem to learn is when it all comes back to bite me in the ass. But then when I get drunk again, it is real easy to forget all of my lessons.
I really cant see him keeping his job after this. He has just lost far too much credibility.

Oh, so Eustachy was the naked drunk guy who pased out on my lawn after my party a few weeks ago! How I saved him from getting with my girlfriend, I'll never know...
Just kidding. Seriously though, all joking aside, I'm glad Eustachy is finally seeking counsel for his problems and getting his life back in order. Someone like that should not be coaching a Division I ball team. I do think that he should not have sent his wife out in place of him, though; he should have addressed the problems personally at the press conference.
I hope the loss to Hampton in the tournament a couple years ago also still isn't bothering him.
