I've got a soft spot for the second one. Great cast, creative killings...

The wheelchair guy getting it in the face with the machete, then rolling down the stairs during the thunderstorm. Plus Amy Steele as a believable strong heroine you want to root for.

A close second to my favorites it part 4, which also boasts a strong cast and some creativity. If the series had ended here while Jason was still human, I think the Friday the 13th series would have remained scary rather than turning camp.

Here's my response in order from best to worst (although I love them all);

Friday the 13th- 10+

Jason Goes To Hell- 10/10

Friday the 13th 4- 9/10

Jason X- 9/10

Friday the 13th 7- 8/10

Friday the 13th 3- 8/10

Friday the 13th 8- 8/10 (Yes, I know how silly it is)

Friday the 13th 6- 8/10

Friday the 13th 2- 7/10

Friday the 13th 5- 7/10

The whole series is fun and I get a kick out of them all.

I got 2 pairs of those with my Nightmare On Elm Street boxed set, but alas, I don't know where you could get just the glasses.

Part 3 is special to me as well, it's here big J gets his infamous hockey mask.

i will be the oddball i guess....cause i definately have to go with 5...best kills, most nudity, etc.... also, the ending was kind of funny, broke the monotony....but kept the same theme unlike halloween 3

I agree, Paramount needs to put all Jason movies in a 2-disc set for each one, or just sell them to New Line so we can have an awesome, big as hell boxed set with all Jason movies

Yeah though, those Paramount ass holes could release some SE's or CE's, imagine those prices though! Laweese!! BTW, the 9th is only one that does infact SUCK, just my opinion...

To everyone who replied to this, those kinds of 3D glasses (one eye red, one eye blue) won't work with Friday The 13th Part 3. You need a special pair of glasses and a special version of the film.

For example, here's the film on eBay:

And here's the glasses you need to see it:

Well, I guess I just cant bare to go out and spend $25 on a DVD and theatrical trailer. I mean, yes, it's great to finally have the whole series on DVD but if Paramount would learn from New Line and release good DVD's with alot of extras, good sound/picture, and nice menus. These are, of course, extras, and shouldnt get in the way of th film, but I guess I just want more band for my buck. And New Line knows how to promote. I got both Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X for $30 at Best Buy. Wow. And I bet those DVD's did quite good.
But I can see one reason why Paramount wouldnt have any extras. Maybe, they didnt have enough behind the scenes footage for like documentary. But, I mean, there is always some and it would be nice to see.

Paramount isn't going to release the films uncut.

I have them all except part 6. I will be picking it up soon.

The transfers are all fantastic and I love the trailers to these flicks.

I hate that Paramount won't release them in the form they deserve but I'm not going to bitch about something I can't change.

All I want in the future is a company to release them all UNCUT!!!

I have the field sequential shudder glasses , and i'm waiting for part 3 to arrive , it was always my favorite , somehow unlike all the others , even minus the 3d effect , but with it , it was amazing . Love that intro credit sequence and the funky pre hip hop generation rendering of the main theme . Terrific cinematography , interesting characters ( victims ) , great film stock and use of color , and the story moves at a nice healthy pace , it never bogs down once the action gets going .

I just hope the 3d effect at home works as good as it's supposed to , it will be like i'm a teen in the theater watching it for the first time . I want to see the credits flying out the screen , and the various weapons of mass destruction ( he's lucky Bush wasn't Pres at the time ) utilized by OL Jason peeking out of the TV .

Best to worst

6 blows hard , i can't get into that one , but it still has it's moments and 8 is just way too ridiculous .

Favorite would be 3 since I can recall seeing it in the theatres in 3-D as well as the fact it's where he got the hockey mask and it did have some pretty intense moments at the end.

The original still is special and pt 2 is also excellent.

Friday The 13th
Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter

I like the first ones better then the later ones, becuase they are scarier, not as much predictable and don't have stupid endings like Part7 or 8. And I like human Jason more becuase it has a more 'real' feeling to it.
And Mrs.Voorhees also kicks ass! :D

PART 3 **SPOILER**

I watched part 3 on TNN the other day..it sucks when its edited but i have to say..i love the ending..all the false scares where she keeps seeing Jason w/out his mask and when his mom jumps out of the lake and grabs the girl...nice reversal from the first ones ending

Finally saw the dvd version in actual 3d with those shudder glasses , and it's terrific , what a difference it makes , there were things flying out of the screen all over the place , very cool . There weren't as many victims as i remember , so i might have to give part 2 the slight edge . It's still one of the best in the series , and you have to watch it in 3d if you consider part 3 to be one of your favorites

Giselle! Love your avatar...it's a nice, uh...blob.

Paramount is being completely unfair about the dvd releases. I for one am not spending 25 bucks on the dvd with only a trailer, the vhs is fine for me at that price.

As for the ratings:

1 - Pretty slow movie, one of my least favorite of the series, although a classic among most. Havent seen it for too long to give it a rating.

2 - Thought this was great, one of my personal favorites. The acting was superb, the killings - well, there were plenty of them.
Highlight for spoilers: The man in the wheelchair was great, the music that followed as he fell down the stairs. Loved the psychological bit with Jenny and the mother's head. Jason looked creepy as hell with his clothes and a potato sack over the head. 5/5

3 - Jason returns but dons the mask and kills some more predictable teens. More nudity in this one if memory serves. I was more bored with this one that the second. A lot of characters running around doing their own thing. I cant remember any certain kills sticking out. Is this the one with the bottle opener to the hand?? I liked the nutty sequence at the end - when victims have had too much and begin losing it at the end of the film it adds such a dramatic impact. 3.5/5

4 - I havent seen this one as much as the others but a good addition. Acting in this one was good, Jason was creepy as ever, loved the jump itno the cabin scene. He appeared more vicious, or should I say angry? The dog jumping through the window in fear was also a blast. The ending was very memorable. Cory played the little boy quite well, nice touches. Did he kill the sister at the end or what?? What ever happened to her? 4/5

5 - Okay everyone doesnt care for this one but I LOVED it. Some of the most unique kills in the series - and we get plenty of them. We also see the typical character interaction, some nice sex scenes, lots of blood, and plenty of victims. The ending in the barn was also kick- ass. I didnt care if it wasnt jason doing the killing - and honestly I didnt even realize it wasnt him when I originally saw the film. When the mask was uncovered I was surprised. And damnit the beginning....started out so well. 5/5

6 - A more comedic Jason. The beginning was very...well, lame. A lightning bolt you say??? Hmm. Nice gore in the mask though with the worms. Jason looked awesome as hell in this one. Him standing there staring at Tommy in the graveyard with the music playing chilled the bones. They did a good job with the scare effect but then turned into more comedy. And I have to admit the laugh scenes were a pretty nice relief. Some clever death scenes. Unfortunitely I didnt get into the characters with this film like the others - I believe because they were basically boring. Loved the end scene with the lake. 3.5/5

7 - Another one many schmoes dislike that I love. The telekinesis/father dying sublot was brilliant. Her fight at the end of Jason was long and original and didn't dissapoint. I would have liked to know what happened to Tina after the movie was completed, as I dont believe any of the other films comment on this. 5/5

8 - Jason takes manhattan was alright. Jasons personality was different. I noticed from the beginning. he usually killed quick or semi quick but this time he enjoyed bringing the fear out. The example is the woman in the beginning on the boat. He stood there and let her shake before he finally killed her. Talk about mean. :p He also did some more painful scenes (the worst scene in the movies is the hot rock scene in the sauna room - OUCH). I didnt care much for the lighting of the film, it got on my nerves. The guitar girl, the nerd boy, the classic rich girl - none was that good of characters , more annoying than anything. Even their deaths I didn't overly enjoy. When he did get to New York the action picked up some paces - some nice comedic humor thrown in like him seeing the mask on the billboard, and his run in with the men playing the radio , but overall a boring movie. I didn't care for any of the characters. They all acted so blasted boring!1.5/5

9 - I hated this one. I was surprised as much gore as there was it was left in. Boring, Jason jumps bodies, stupid plot. http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/cwm/cwm/puke.gif 1/5

X - Had some comedic parts but I was dissapointed. The robot girl ruined it for me I believe. She was so lame listening to I thought my ears would start to bleed! I didnt dig the new Jason look, and now in space??? Not too bad an idea to begin with, being secluded with no where else to go, but they didn't do it right. I liked how the movie began, Jason's eye creeping was pretty good. Not a bad story line at the start. The end with the hitting the campers against the tree was hysterical. 2/5

Say duh , i forgot today was The Day , Friday the 13th , gotta watch my back for the big , psychotic momma's boy .

Number 4 is on right now , and one thing i forget was how nice all the women look , they really knew how to pick them . They really do up that dumpy looking babe , but everyone knew she was hot even before her seductive transformation . Then they off her , come on man , they should have kept her around a bit longer than they did .

And how about Mcfly and that nerd from Last American Virgin , those two guys in all their Nerdcentric glory are worth the price of amission alone . But the kicker is the 80's teen idol Corey Feldman , the real star of the show .

I still have to give the nod too number 3 as the best one i the series , but it has too be in 3d to be fully appreciated .

And as a little PS...

Does anyone else find it remarkable that the "Friday the 13th" series always seem the same direction wise?

Like the tone, the atmosphere, the music---everything feels like it's from the same director (and consequentially writer since most of the movies are basically the same), despite the fact that there's been a new director almost every time for each successive chapter...

Ouch , but to be fair she WOULD be considered hot to a number of drunken sailors hanging out in any of the various bars that litter Orange avenue in San Diego ( Coronado ) on a friday or saturday night , just before closing time . Who knows what she looks like now , maybe she shed some weight , got some plastic surgery , and is a looker .

I did notice that almost all the Friday films are almost carbon copies of each other . If it wasn't for the different characters , there wouldn't be much difference . Look at number 5 , they lifted the scenes in the barn that was used in part 3 .

But still , there was something about 3 that seemed to have it's own unique look and feel , and the characters appear as goofy as some of the other installments . Look at number 6 , they really became way too fantastical with regards to the narrative and the characterizations , that's why i felt it was one of the weakest , it was too silly . At least the first 4 were grounded in some sort of reality , in a slasher movie sense . After 4 there was a steady decline in the quality of the series ( with the exception of 7 , which is hypocritical because they also utilized a fantastic premise , but it still worked because the goofiness factor from number 6 was abandoned ) .

Number 3 somehow captured the essense of the Jason mystique , it contained all of the elements that made the franchise popular , without going overboard in any way . It has the best ending of all the films , the shot of Jason laying lifeless in the barn and then the next shot of the lake are terrific . The first time i saw it i thought someone was going to pop out , very tense filled cinema . I can't fuly explain it , but it stands out among the other films . Maybe it was the cinematography , or the lighting , or the film stock , or the Shelly guy , it's just not like the others . ( with some obvious exceptions of course )

Anyway , those pre commercial segments with Jason warming up before he gets ready to participate in a marathon were genius , great stuff indeed . He even wore the number 13 as his participant number .

TheAxeGrinder

I'd have to say that I've enjoyed all the films in the series except for Parts 5 and 8. It's a damn shame for Part 8, as I've stated so many times before, that Kane Hodder IS Jason. Part 5 was just plain crap on a stick.

*SPOILERS*

I did think that the strap death was sorta cool, but overall I was disappointed that Jason wasn't the killer and that the cast just got on my nerves.

To go along with some of the posters here, I did like JGTH, but it pales in comparison with the others. I like that they tried to do something new, but it kinda blew up in their face after a while.

Alot of people didn't like it, because someone was copy catting Jason but, i'd have to say part 5 is my favorite out of all the films. I may be stupid but it had alot of great kills and Melanie Kinnaman (Pam) in it. She was just so cute. Just watch it because she is in it. ;) Where else can you go to see a rain drenced, sexy woman kicking "Jason's" ass with a chainsaw?

:D

Okay I am a Jason fan so I own :

F13th 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8.
My favorite - ones :
F13th 6 ( more spoof oriented, black humor galore and no nudity but I don't care )
F13th 4
F13th 7 ( Jason is pure bad ass in this chapter very impressive and Tina is a good fighter )

As many people who've read my posts, I like almost every entry in the series. I say almost because I could care less of Part 5 and 8, which showed that Paramount no longer really cared for Jason, and that they really were sniffing glue when planning these movies out. They just happened to be into the extra strength stuff for those movies. And yes, I did like Jason Goes To Hell, and if you've read my post here (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=936955#post936943), you'll get what I'm saying.
