Has anyone else seen this movie? It isn't too bad. Usually when it was on I avoided it at all costs because I thought it was going to be lame... But it wasn't that bad, sure there were some lame wire effects and some lame CGI but you can't really bitch that much for a direct to video movie. The only complaint I had was on the actor who played the main character.... Horrible actor. So has anyone else seen this?

I kinda liked the whole plot. It would have been better if they had used better actors but its worth a watch.

Yep, I really enjoyed it. Here's the review from my site.

The Breed- 8/10

Genre: Horror

Year: 2001

Rating: US R/ Can 18A for Many Scenes Involving Vampire Gore, Nudity and Language.

Director: Michael Oblowitz

Cast:

Adrian Paul

Bokeem Woodbine

Bai Ling

Plot:

A renegade vampire is out killing college women. Two detectives are brought in and one is a vampire. See, the vampire community has "come out of the closet" and humans talk to them like any other. They don’t drink the blood of the living but there are some exceptions (like our renegade friend).

My Thoughts:

I’ve always had a thing for vampire flicks. Whenever a new vamp flick comes out I have to see it. I haven’t seen any truly amazing vampire flicks for awhile and this is no exception, BUT this was a surprisingly fun and atmospheric movie. Adrian Paul may not be the best actor around but damn, the guy has screen presence! He delivers a subtle and well-rounded performance. This flick centers on a plot device that was used very well. Vampires have walked amongst us for ages, they finally decide to show themselves to the public. They don’t show themselves as fierce killers but as peaceful creatures that prefer night but can survive in the day. A detective is on the case of a rampant killer vampire, who feeds on the innocent and it’s up to Aaron (Adrian Paul) and Steve (Bokeem Woodbine, who also gives a nice performance) to get rid of the heathen (I’ve never used that word before). Check it out if you like well-made, moody vampire films, not to mention gory.

Acting- 6/10

Adrian Paul doesn’t have much talent in the acting department but damn does the guy have screen presence. In his case, it works like it does for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Directing- 8/10

Beautiful shots throughout. Some are computer generated but most are the real thing. Lots of atmosphere as well.

Gore- 9/10

Bit open throat, Slit throat victim, bloody corpse with no skin on the neck, slit throat victim, head cut in half at the jaw, impaling, gunshot wounds, slit throat, another slit throat, bit open neck, shotgun wound, impaling then a grenade shoved in the wound, exploding body with various severed body parts shown (including hand and head).

Nudity- 6/10

Nude dancers and club personnel at the club, Bai Ling shows her butt.

anybody who cares to hear my thoughts on how "the breed" totally rips off the art direction of "brazil" (and i know you're all dying to), can do so here (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43081).

I still haven't got around to seeing this movie, it sounds pretty interesting. I might have to check it out on cable when it's on.
