To anyone familiar with Dragon Ball Z, anyone have an opinion as to whether fox can pull off the big budget movie they're planning? I'm fanatical about DBZ, and would be very upset if they make it, and it sucks like Mortal combat or Fist of the Northstar's adaption.(A friggin abomination) Can americans get the japaneese anime concept or is it too foreign to their way of thinking?

And what about the hair?!

XCoRyX

yeah, the hair concept will be fucking unbelieveably hard to pull off without it looking corny or cheesy, either way this is definetly one movie that will have 50/50,unlike any other 50/50....so many will hate it and others will love it.i think the series sucks big time so i could care less really.

Dragon Ball Z is one of the worst anime I've ever seen.

I hope this movie sucks and flops.

movies35, DBZ is one of the most popular animé around. Here's a pic from it, maybe you've seen it somewhere before, I dunno...

http://www.iwaynet.net/~sos/dbgroup5.jpg

Oh erm anyway, I think that a live action DBZ movie will be pretty sucky. Like that idea for a live action Akira, why oh why :(

XCoRyX
05-04-2003, 11:24 AM
Well atleast,as far as image is concerned,Akira could slightly be done, this one,the hair alone says NO!Not that I Want a live action of either...also,did any production actually begin on akira on anything?

the DBZ movie would work, only if they picked the following cast and crew:

Director: Tsui Hark, Kirk Wong, Ching-shing Tung....

Goku: Andy Lau

Vegeta: Jet Li

Krillian: Wu Bai

Chi-Chi: Kelly Hu

Future Trunks: Takeshi Kaneshiro

Bulma: Kristy Yang

Gohan: Stephen Fung

Videl: Kou Shibasaki

Do you have a candidate for Picolo? And what has Andy Lau been in?

its possible they could pull this off and i hope they do. the anime is alright, i feel more comfortable with the manga, but thats just me.

this could work, but its going to be bloody bloody hard.

so long as they cut all screamign and grunting that goes on anyway....that really fucked me off in the anime.

Andy Lau has been in The Duel, Infernal Affairs, Day of Being Wild, As Tears Go by. A big deal in H.K, he is.

For Piccilo, I would say Wesley Snipes. It's really hard to say.

Example being in the Buu saga when **SPOILER** Buu is about to destroy Earth **END SPOILER**:

Goku: No, Buu! Don't do it! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I would love to see a fat Kamehameha on the big screen though ;)

I like the anguish in their voices when they're caught up in an extended angst, wanting more power, trying their best to summon it.

I think Michael Jai White would make a good Piccolo as well. Jet li? I don't know if he could pull off vegeta, of course I'm biased against li anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing Mark Dacascos or someone new be Vegeta. I think that guy, Phillip Rhee(I think that's his name) from best of the best could maybe be Son Goku, maybe. The biggest question, who's gonna be Hercule?!

Negro, OUT!

I beg to differ. In fact, I have heard less atrocious dialogue in softcore porn movies.

Jet Li would be a nice canidate for Vegeta though...;)

Get a good screenwriter and good director and it could most def. work.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to agree to a certain extent. My cousins love this anime, and I tried watching it a couple times, but I didn't really like it. An example of one of the episodes I watched was one in which two characters would fight. Here's the episode roughly:

Character one and Character two fight.
Character one goes down.
Commercials
Character one gets up, and they both fight again.
Commercials
Character one beats up Character two. Character two is down.
Commercials
Character one walks away, character two suddenly comes up behind and fight ensues again.
Commercials.
Character one beats character two.
End of episode.

I dunno if I was just watching a bad ep that time or what, but the entire episode was a pointless fight scene that just kept going on and on and on, with grunts and groans from both sides, and each or either one going down and then suddenyl getting back up again to beat the other one up.

I hope to God that Jet Li doesn't take a role in this. He has too many bad movies recently as it is. He doesn't need another one.

Oh and speaking Jet Li, i've changed my avatar again :D ...I just got too tired of every time I'd go down a list, I'd see a post by 8 Ball and at first I'd think I posted it and I'd be like, what? LOL, so i decided to change my avatar to one that hopefully no one has (since i just cropped a picture to size)...of course it's Jet Li again tho :p

i didnt doubt they could do LOTR,and matrix,X-men was iffy and your right that turned out to be solid...but im still doubting this one big time.not that they cant make a good script but the look.

to make dbz a live action movie just seems stupid. i mean, it (for the most part, i know it's not COMPLETELY, i have watched it mostly is about fighting. and really, they fly, they have their special attacks, they change into the super sayians, and even combine themselves...it'll be alot of cgi, and it's great as a cartoon, but to make a movie of it....doesn't seem right.

Actually, you describe the entire series.

DBZ is a quite old anime it was popular in Japan (of course), Europe & latin-america years ago. And i think almost everyone is tired about that series. The first Dragon ball was... cute, but this one its only about endless fighting with little (and dumb) plot.

I used to fucking hate DBZ, started watching it loved it.. Then it dragged on and on, then I began to hate it again. But if the movie is done right (Which I doubt it'll be) it good be good.

I have both versions, both are good. They play to different sensitivies and in-humor common to the regions. DBZ is my favorite show, I have every episode, and yes, I also have too much free time on my hands. And DBZ is the hottest animated series in the world right now. You can see some subtle nuances of the show in the writing and action of the Wachowskis, who are also devout anime viewers. Fox has bought the rights and is going ahead with the project, so the movie will be made. It has the potential to be awesome, and the potential to suck royaly if not treated with reverence.

I can't see why someone would not like DBZ especially the japanese subtitled uncensored episodes and movies in the later half.

I hope they don't screw this up like they have screwed anime in the US, along with the video game and so on. Most of the time when they mess with anime like this they screw it up.

cmagus is right! i mean in some of the american versions, goku will be staring at his opponant and then next second, it is a shot of the opponant down on the ground, when really goku bet the shit out of him!!
i just dont see dbz in live action, it will be hard to pull off, but if it could b dont then it will be friggin awesome!

I don't see why you would botherto make a live action movie of a TV show you love so much.

I love animé's like Cowboy Bebop, and Evangelion (both which had kickass animated films), but they're fine the way they are. They were done right the first time, I don't see the need for more of the same.

I mean I love Bebop and Evangelion, and in a small way I'd love to see more of them. But they were done right the first time, I don't see the need for someone else to try and fix what already worked.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it

(this is basically my rant about all re-makes also. I don't see the difference between remaking a classic film, and someone remaking an already solid animé series)

I totally agree. I saw a few episodes a while back and was actually starting to really get into it, but then I just sort of stopped watching. Oh well.
If they did this as an animated movie, they would have to have a LOT better animation than the series. The series is okay, but for the film to work, the animation would have to be like as good as a Miyazaki film or the animated Metropolis.

Dragon Ball Z is a good choice for a pic, provided the studio is truly interested in spending the requisite $$$$ for the fx necessary for the flick. The speed they travel at, the strength they possess, the extensive fighting skillz, difficult to pull off. Plus, who's gonna be Mr. Satan?????

Agreed. But be mindful of the fact that studios are gaining a respect for comic book and animated material seeing how much interest there is when a genuine effort is actually put into it. It can work.
