Do you shmoes remember this film from the late seventies directed by Elliot Silverstein starring james brolin as a sheriff trying to stop the mayhem caused by a unbreakable black limo possessed by Evil ? god, i liked this movie so much when I was younger and i haven't seen it since a long time. I've only seen chunks of The Car, but it bored me to tears. I need to give it another shot to be sure, but until then, I'll stick to Maximum Overdrive.

70s cheese to the max, and I love this movie! It predates both Christine the novel and the movie and there's a scene in The Car that is very similar to the King novel, where the car drives through a house to get its victim. I own the DVD and it is a very nice WS presentation.

Lord I remember when this baby came out. It was pretty much panned by th critics and audiences alike, but found a niche' amongst some horror buffs.

The few times it's been on TV, I've always watched it and enjoyed the cheesy thrills it provides.

There are a couple of scenes that will have you squirming in your seats though, I'll give it that.

Yes! That still creeps me out. I haven't seen this movie in years, but I've never forgotten what the car looked like.

Have loved this since i was very young. Shown on network tv in crappy pan and scan 4 times which i recorded and kept watching until Anchor Bay released the widescreen edition in 2000.
Bought it immediately.
Widescreen makes a massive difference and i finally got to see the theatrical trailer
Man george barris is one wicked car customiser. Got an email from george's son that they will be releasing a 1/18th scale model of the 1971 lincoln mark III
Anchor bay rules. They release the titles that others won't and in their uncut version

Bought the Anchor Bay version blind. Pretty crappy cheesy acting in this one. If they would have had just the car and nobody else in this flick, it still would have been good.

It reminded me of the 3 mini stories flick Nightmares. A priest looses his faith and leaves the church only to be chased and almost killed by a demon chevy truck that comes out of nowhere.

Geez i haven't seen that for quite some time. Can't remember if i watched the video or off tv. The acting isn't marvellous but i still love the movie. RG armstrongs character i found very annoying.

I agree with you all that THE CAR from 1977 is a real guilty pleasure. Dosen't anyone remember the great line spoken by Kate Murtaugh, who went on to be MOM in Doctor Detroit, after the car attacks the school , she yells out at full volume-------

"CAT POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

MAKES ME VOMIT WITH LAUGHTER EVERY TIME. What genius wrote that one???????????

Can someone help me out with a movie similiar to this.

It involves a 1971 or maybe 72 Dodge Challenger (Brown), it goes after a young school kid and it's mother. Their is a chase between the car and a school bus...I think it falls off a cliff? Anyways its a car killing people and shit, no one drives it. Was a a great movie when I saw it as a little kid.........I think its late 1980's...ANYONE KNOW THE NAME!

It's WHEELS OF TERROR. Made in 1988 approx.
Forgotten who stars in it but i have a copy of it right along side all my copies of THE CAR. It's no where near as good as CAR of course but still very enjoyable.

Here is a picture of the video cover art (USA version)

i loved the car, i think its a great movie.

ok a question that has long since bugged me.....

when it explodes at the end, who else sees the face in the flames? cause i see it, and a few other do, but then a lot of people tell me there is nothing there...wondering if anyone else saw that?

Yup... dont' worry, you aren't going nuts. Clear as day, and you should see the remastered DVD... SWEET!!!

I saw this at the show back in 77, and I was like "WOW... you see the face!!!", and my Dad went "What face?" :p Great stuff.

In australia, it debuted at the cinema in 1978. I found a mint condition A4 sized print of the theatre art poster earlier this year in one of my uncle's 1977 wheels magazines.

Any extra's in the DVD. I don't have DVD but i do have the anchor bay widescreen VHS NTSC version.
