well after saturdays call off due to waterlogged feild,we feared the worst that one big weekend might turn into one big disapointment, but the orgenisers got there act together and sunday went ahead with large metal plates to stand on.
so off we went myself sister and friend arriving a little late just missing dirty vegas but arriving in time to see aqualung.
aqualung never really heard much about this band other than the theme tune to a car advert that always has me humming along so i was pleased that they were so good live.
they opened with a cover of a beach boys track "god only knows" thats always good to get the crowd on your side, they then moved into their own stuff and rather nice it was too the standouts being "strange and beautiful"(the theme to the car ad) and their new single"if i fall".so all in all a nice set got a thumbs up from the 3 of us anyway.
next came the coral and to be honest they left me a bit so what, musicly they were good enough they just reminded me of so many bands from cast too supergrass,i could'nt tell you what any of the songs were called because the singer never told us,but they were all pretty samey, and got a little boring after a while especially the closing number that had a 15 minute instrumental finish that would have been better knocked down to 2 and filling the gap with a couple of better songs.so they got a thumbs side ways on from the 3 of us.
badly drawn boy came next with the reliable old wooly hat and furry beard,"i'm the only fuckin manc playing today so you lot better like it" he anounced and i have to say we did,his set was a mixed bag of song from his last couple of albums, mixed in with rambling about his wife and kids, who made their customary apearance at his gig,the standout songs in his set where"have you fed the fish"and silent sigh"it was a very strong set from a very good performer,so got a thumbs up from us all.
the white stripes the reason i got up in the middle of the night to go que in the piss wet manchester morning last week, could they possibly live up to expectations, could they live up to the build up they have had from other people on this site, the answer is an emphatic yes.
this band were nothing i have ever seen before magical music coming from such a small amount of instruments, pantomine faces being pulled between jack and meg giving the feeling that these two are so good they could do all this in their sleep, songs that had such depth and texture that you couldnt help but get sucked in.
the set itself was a real mix they did about 40 minutes and covered most of their sounds from"hotel yorba""dead leaves on a dirty ground" on the white blood cells album to "seven nations army"and the standout song for me throughout the whole day "in the cold cold night" this is a band i am sure i will be going to see many more times they are a real breath of fresh air to a pretty stale music scene right now and one i am growing to love.
they got a mssive thumbs up from us all and everyone in the big tent in which they performed.
after they had finished we decided not to stay and watch the steriophonics there was no way they could top what we had just seen with a couple of crappy sinalong tunes and a dodgy rod stewart cover so we decided to go for a walk to a pub and discuss the days events.and it was decided that it had been a very worthwhile effort to get the tickets to see such a talented band from the other side of the pond and one we shall repeat again if the chance comes our way again.

:D

I have two things two say.

1. I'm envious

2. Well done for giving the Stereophonics a miss

I'll be getting a dose of The White Stripes at T In The Park. I'm pretty fucking hyped. The weird thing is. None of the people i'm attending the festival with even knew who The White Stripes were until I told them. I honestly don't know if Jack & Meg are gonna be their bag. Just have to wait and see.

I'm keen with anticipation. T In The Park will be the best weekend of my life, of that I am sure. The line-up has to be the strongest festival line-up I have seen in the UK since..forever.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed it Calf. Hope it didn't rain on you. Much.:D

1)dont worry psycho anyone who does'nt know who the white stripes are will come out of T in the park raving about them, they had the whole place jumping here.
2)the weather was smashing thanks reigh, just a little mud around the drinks tents, but otherwise nice.

a sign of the impact they had when all the other bands where playing there was maybe 5 or 6 people at the side of the stage watching, when the white stripes where on there was at least 50 with badly drawn boy and wife dancing away at the front,it seamed that everyone back stage stopped what they were doing to watch them, they really are the hottest live band around right now and everyone wants to see them.

She's still standing there, alone, amongst the crisp packets and fag-ends, waiting for Pulp to come on-stage. Some people just need a reason to live...Others just cannot be told. Don't say anything. Let her dream for a bit...

Helloooooooooo there!!!!!

What a fabulous day...I should post my thoughts I suppose...;)

Aqualung - Quite a pleasant surprise these lads. Slightly reminiscent of The Eels, and a really nice mood to them. Kicking off with "God Only Knows" was a smart move... and every tune they played was quite lurvely. Oooooooh, very nice boys.

The Coral – These cheeky skallies had a promising start...a raucous, melodious tune kicked off their set...and two similar ditty's were to follow...but after that, it all went slightly pear-shaped :(. Five minutes of geetar led self-indulgence was to follow...and just when those 5 minutes looked set to finish, the drums kicked in and they threw a wee bit more our way...and 5 minutes swiftly progressed into 10, and I don't know when it actually happened, but somehow those 10 minutes must have turned into 15...and fuck, before I knew where I was...we must have been knocking on 20 minutes..... It all seemed completely fucking pointless...and frankly, I was bored out of me skull...:(. Naaaaaaaaaay lads, very dodgy move.

Badly Drawn Boy – Sweet Mama...Damon bought along the wife, the kiddies, Hank Marvin lookalike, Dan Hipgrave of Toploader "fame" and the whole kit and caboodle. He was B.R.I.L.L as I expected...and Silent Sigh, Have You Fed The Fish and All Possibilities were definite highlights.

The White Stripes – Okay, the time was nigh...and Jack and Meg were just a sniff away, and in amongst the sweaty bodies and oversized noggins I felt more than a few tingles of excitement. Before I knew it the stage was set, and the lovely Stripesters were kicking off their set to a chorus of deafening whoops. Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground to get us bouncing around like complete arses...and every time I bounced I saw flashes and swirls or red and white...:). They're on FIRE I tell thee...I knew this would be something else. Okay, the second track is particularly amusing...Jack has obviously been having a scout-about some 50p shop, because he is wailing along to I Think I Smell a Rat with the aid of some echo voice changer thungummy. It sounds utterly fucking fab...and cheap as chips. Okay, the rest of the songs just merged into one fucking KICKARSE little set, and even though gems like Hotel Yorba, Seven Nation Army and In The Cold, Cold Night truly stood out...EVERYTHING was simply faultless. I just can't praise them enough at the end of it all...:), and Jack really did know how to work a crowd...

"Say Meg...How many times have we been to Maaaan-chest-ter?

Three times Jack"

"You know something Meg...these Maaaan-chest-ter folks have never even said "Hello" to us...!?

Priceless.

Gawd, they're magnificent...and I shall be going to see this inimitable duo perform WHEREVER they happen to land...

PS: Stereophonics Schmereophonics...I too buggered off to the pub...:), no point sticking around to hear monobrow murder Rod and watch that dead ugly one on drums.
